The Willow Tearooms are tearooms at 217 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, Scotland, designed by internationally renowned architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, which opened for business in October 1903. They quickly gained enormous popularity, and are the most famous of the many Glasgow tearooms that opened in the late 19th and early 20th century. The location selected by Miss Cranston for the new tearooms was a four-storey former warehouse building on a narrow infill urban site on the south side of Sauchiehall Street. The name "Sauchiehall" is derived from "saugh", the Scots word for a willow tree, and "haugh", meadow. This provided the starting point for Mackintosh and MacDonald's ideas for the design theme.
Within the existing structure, Mackintosh designed a range of spaces with different functions and decor for the Glasgow patrons to enjoy. There was a ladies’ tearoom to the front of the ground floor, with a general lunch room to the back and a tea gallery above it. The first floor contained the "Room de Luxe", a more exclusive ladies' room overlooking Sauchiehall Street. The second floor contained a timber-panelled billiards room and smoking rooms for the men. The design concept foresaw a place for the ladies to meet their friends, and for the men to use on their breaks from office work - an oasis in the city centre.
The decoration of the different rooms was themed: light for feminine, dark for masculine. The ladies' tea room at the front was white, silver, and rose; the general lunch room at the back was panelled in oak and grey canvas, and the top-lit tea gallery above was pink, white, and grey. In addition to designing the internal architectural alterations and a new external facade, in collaboration with his wife Margaret, Mackintosh designed almost every other aspect of the tearooms, including the interior design, furniture, cutlery, menus, and even the waitress uniforms. Willow was the basis for the name of the tearooms, but it also formed an integral part of the decorative motifs employed in the interior design, and much of the timberwork used in the building fabric and furniture.
The Room de Luxe was the most extravagant of the rooms that Mackintosh created, and proved to be the tearooms' main attraction. The room was positioned on the first floor at the front of the building, slightly above the level of the tea gallery at the rear, and featured a vaulted ceiling with a full-width, slightly curved bay window looking out to Sauchiehall Street. Entrance to the room was by way of a magnificent set of double doors which featured leaded glass decoration, hinting at the colours and motifs to be found beyond.

Quickly re-writing the history books are Dirty Thrills, an exciting and charismatic rock‘n’roll quartet, straight out of the London grind.
With the perfect musical blend of sex, drugs and rock‘n’roll in their music, this group is most definitely one to watch out for. Fronted by the son of ex-Moody Blues singer Nicky James, this unique outfit are bringing back old skool rock ‘n’ roll, whilst all the while applying their oh-so-appealing filthy edge.
With lung-busting, powerful vocals from Louis James, killer guitar riffs from Jack Fawdry and solid, sexy low-end grooves from the rhythm section of Aaron Plows and Stevo Corrigan, they are churning out crowd belters whilst all the while endeavoring to make guitar music sexy again.
Their influences flow like a stream of innumerable genres to produce a pool of sound similar to Queens of the Stone Age, Black Keys and Rival Sons, also taking care to include lashings of clever guitar riffs and vibrant Robert Plant-esque vocal lines.

At one of our quick stops the other day, I happened to notice this particularly beautiful tree a short distance away, covered in bright yellowy/green Lichen. Couldn't resist taking a shot or two, needless to say. I don't know if it's Wolf Lichen, which is the only Lichen, in my extremely limited knowledge, that is this colour.
My friends, Cathy and Terry, and I, had left Calgary early morning on Wednesday (14 May 2014) and I think it was around 12:15 a.m. midnight (Thursday, 15 May 2014), that they dropped me off at home after two long, wonderful days in the Rocky Mountains, west of the city. Wednesday night was spent in a spotless motel, in a place that had so many Mountain Sheep roaming the streets, lol! Though we were hoping to see at least one Bear, I was happy as can be to see absolutely anything beautiful : )
Over the two days, we had 7 bear sightings, with three definitely different Black Bears (no Grizzlies), and possibly four. The rest of the sightings were of Bears we had already seen. My friends are good at telling individual bears, often by a certain scar and, of course, the actual location. Many of the bears we see, they have seen before. Basically, it's all about timing, as with any wildlife. A few minutes earlier or later and we would have missed seeing something special. We just happened to be lucky. All wildlife/nature photographers know it's all about timing : )
I was so tired after the trip, that I had no choice but to fall into bed at 7:00 p.m. yesterday evening, thinking that a short nap might be a good idea. I slept for something like 13 hours with a couple of hours awake in the middle. I think the excruciating pain in both arms and shoulders was a factor in my utter tiredness, too.

This recipe is called "quick bread" because there is no yeast and therefore no need to proof and knead this remarkably versatile dough. I have used this recipe for preparing savory dishes such as chicken and dumplings. I've also created sweet concoctions by adding the dough to dried apricots and prunes over fresh peaches. I stole the quick bread recipe from James Beard and have been using it since the early eighties. The addition of lemon zest and rosemary go great with poultry. The dough is particularly wonderful over leftover roasts and even roasted fall vegetables like butternut squash and mushrooms. Please let me know how you can use this quick bread recipe.

The bottom set of the sraps that hold the mask on my face clip into place, so it can easily be unhooked. Makes it much easier to put on and take off.
The mask is designed so I don't have to have it extremely tight on my face, which is important due to my excema. The mask I used during my titration study cut badly into my face.

Released in 2011 by Hot Toys. I bought them in 2014 and first opened it up today. I do love all Johnny Depp movies and Hot Toys action figures of those movies. This one’s quite a bundle with many fine accessories and it can recreate Sweeney’s unusual barbershop. Of course the figure itself is top notch with excellent likeness of Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd!
I was a guest lecturer tonight for a friend who's teaching an MBA class, so I was killing time beforehand by sketching this and that.
I intended to "pre-color" the paper with a big wash, but all I had was my tiny Kuretake waterbrush so it really wasn't much of a wash :-). I drew over it anyway.
