To enter Livraria Lello e Irmão one has to buy a ticket for €3. It might be the only bookshop in the world where it's necessary to pay to enter. When buying (a) book(s), the entrance fee is returned. The fee is to limit a bit the thousands of visitors every day. This queue is the evidence that in spite of the fee still many people want to get a look inside. The red cabin is the ticket office, the bookshop itself is at the left just outside the photo at the other side of the street.
The Mary Rose was a carrack-type warship of the English Tudor navy of King Henry VIII.
After serving for 33 years in several wars against France, Scotland, and Brittany and after being substantially rebuilt in 1536, she saw her last action on 19 July 1545. While leading the attack on the galleys of a French invasion fleet, she sank in the Solent, the straits north of the Isle of Wight.
The wreck of the Mary Rose was rediscovered in 1971 and salvaged in 1982 by the Mary Rose Trust in one of the most complex and expensive projects in the history of maritime archaeology.
The surviving section of the ship and thousands of recovered artefacts are of immeasurable value as a Tudor-era time capsule

A view of the traffic queues on Kingsway as traffic faces being diverted away from the flooded A683 Caton Road in Lancaster.
An assortment of people waiting in a queue, and what an assortment it is. From the strandy at the front to the protective granny at the end of the queue they are figures with whom we regularly come into contact.
