This is "petrified wood", a terrible term for what is technically called permineralization. Biogenic materials such as wood or bone have a fair amount of small-scale porosity. After burial, the porosity of wood or bone can get partially or completely filled up with minerals as groundwater or diagenetic fluids percolate through. The end result is a harder, denser material that retains the original three-dimensionality (or close to it). The most common permineralization mineral is quartz (SiO2). Sometimes, fossil wood and bone have been permineralized with radioactive minerals such as black uraninite (UO2) or yellowish carnotite (K2(UO2)2(VO4)2·3H2O). Some fossil bones permineralized with cinnabar have been reported (GarcÃa-Alix et al., 2013, Lethaia 46: 1-6).
Permineralized wood can have microscopic anatomic details preserved, but some fossil wood has no internal structure remaining (in such cases, the fossil preservation style is "replacement" - if quartzose, it's been silicified).

(Wikipedia)

Often called quartz after calcite, but this is not a pseudomorph. The calcite is still in the quartz but most of it has dissolved out due to acid ground water and left thin slits where the calcite blades were. Maratoto Valley.

I lay on raw rose quartz gems I dug up from the mines in Ranchita, CA. It pulls the tension and toxins right out of my body, leaving the spine more flexible and promotes better breathing.
The mask wears a nemes headcloth, topped by the royal insignia of a cobra (Wadjet) and vulture (Nekhbet), symbolising Tutankhamun's rule of both Upper and Lower Egypt. The ears are pierced to hold earrings, a feature that appears to have been reserved for queens and children in almost all surviving ancient Egyptian works of art. This has caused some doubt if this mask was initially intended for Tutankhamun.
It contains inlays of coloured glass and gemstones, including lapis lazuli (the eye surrounds and eyebrows), quartz (the eyes), obsidian (the pupils), carnelian, feldspar, turquoise, amazonite, faience and other stones (as inlays of the broad collar).
