Amethyst

Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz.

The name comes from the Koine Greek ἀμέθυστος amethystos from ἀ- a-, "not" and μεθύσκω methysko / μεθύω methyo, "intoxicate", a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.

Amethyst is a semiprecious stone often used in jewelry and is the traditional birthstone for February.

Another from my mineral collection is this quartz. When small crystals grow in this sugar-like formation along the main 'stems' it is known as druzy, hence druzy quartz. Lead inclusions can also be seen as flecks in the crystals.

This specimen nicknamed “The Rabbit Ears” is elbaite (a member of the tourmaline group), found in 1972 at the Tourmaline Queen Mine, San Diego County, California. This 24 cm example is the finest of the 33 major specimens recovered and is considered the finest North American tourmaline. The crystals are undamaged and grow from quartz crystal and are accompanied by smaller tourmaline crystals.

My second choice for Macro Mondays but I thought 'misfit' could be interpreted here as 'essential component'?!

1437.0 carat Star Rose Quartz specimen from Madagascar. In the Gem and Mineral collection at HMNS. It goes by the name of the Love Stone because it sends off strong vibrations of love, happiness, warmth, and emotional health. It possesses energy related to the heart chakra.

Your vision connects you to the earth and all that it contains. To stop and gaze upon the simplicity and complexity of this world is to merge with it, not to the extent of losing your identity in that merging of a moment in time, but to recognise that in the carbons and atoms of all creation, there is an interconnected life.

The King Stone at Garry Beach, with its crystal heart of quartz, is one of these natural monuments which seem to reflect that reciprocity of man and nature. We gaze upon it, touch it and feel its touch upon our own souls. 'Here I stand upon shifting sands and rolling waves, yet I will not be moved'.

I'll never forget this night out with Matt Shiffler and Cosmic Chaos Adventures LLC such an incredible night to be in Alaska under the amazing aurora filled sky.

HMM 😄😁😆

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe, and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

To shoot this Macro image with backlighting, I used a smooth and clear transparent crystal jewelry box as a base and placed LED lighting inside. Next I arranged the quartz stones on the top face of the crystal box and then shot my macro image with backlighting. The background is a black card.

Certo, sono anche le pietre comuni o preziose e loro colori che catturano l'immaginazione di noi umani. Che posto noioso sarebbe il nostro pianeta senza tutti i colori che la natura ci ha fatto dono e che ci circondano.

Of course, it is also common or precious stones and their colors that captivate the imagination of us humans. What a boring place our planet will surely be without the colors that nature has given us and that surround us.

Agate is a fine-grained variety of quartz known as chalcedony that shows concentric color banding. The colors in this agate are caused by microscopic inclusions of iron oxide minerals in the quartz. Agates are commonly found in cavities in volcanic rock, where silica-rich water deposited quartz crystals layer by layer parallel to the cavity wall.

Brazil is the major commercial source of agate.

Quartz is a hard, crystalline mineral composed of silicon and oxygen atoms. It is the second most abundant mineral in Earth's continental crust, behind feldspar.

My mother was an avid Rock Hound, belonged to a Rock & Mineral Society which met monthly and held dozens of field trips all over the US. She went on most of those trips, bringing home tons of specimens, filling up many book cases and two china cabinets.

Here is a close up of a Quartz specimen displayed in one of those cases.

Intrusive rock containing two types of feldspar- Quartz monzonite

When lava from the depth of the earth travels upwards through crustal cracks or accessory vents of the volcano,it eventually reaches the surface, where it cools down into rock. This kind of pluton is called intrusive rock.On SharpIsland you can observe intrusive rock containing quartz,as well as flesh pink (Potassium-Feldspar) and grayish white (Plagioclase feldspar) crystals in equal quantity. The rock is named quartz monzonite, an uncommon specimen in Hong Kong.
