A brilliant day with the Q class, a sharp frost in the morning with a bright sunrise. The sun returned late afternoon.
Today's combined Wealden Rambler and Wedding special hauled by Maunsell S15 No. 847 rounds the curve towards the remains of Town House Bridge before continuing its climb to Horsted Keynes and beyond. The Northerly wind carried the bark from its exhaust so well that it could be heard climbing all the way to Horsted Keynes, and levaing again shortly after. Superb!
4th January 2016. Q class 30541 on a goods train at the Bluebell Railway. Despite a trek through some badly waterlogged fields and standing in a heavy downpour we were rewarded with a few breaks of good light.

The day the gricer circus came to town. On 18th October 1964, the RCTS/LCGB organised railtour gave enthusiasts the last chance to travel over the already closed Midhurst branch in West Sussex. Local people mingled with the rail fans, watching bemused as they swarmed all over the station to record 'Q' class 30530 at the head of the train. The final leg of the tour was a non-stop steam run behind a Merchant Navy class from Brighton to London Victoria, and completed just a couple of minutes quicker than the electric service of the day. Q class no. 30541 departs Horsted Keynes on the Bluebell Railway with the 12.32pm to East Grinstead on a sunny October day.
In the last of tonight's trinity of railway images we can positively identify only one locomotive, ex- S.R. 'Q' Class 0-6-0 numbered 30541, also in shot is a Merchant Navy, minus a flame-cut number and what appears to my eyes as an ex-GWR locomotive. No doubt someone will be able to identify either the MN or the nearest locomotive, I look forward to responses. 30541 is at the Bluebell Railway and has not been in service since 1993 awaiting an overhaul.
The picture was taken sometime during 1973 at Woodham's scrapyard in Barry.
