The Louvre Pyramid is a large glass and metal pyramid, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard (Cour Napoléon) of the Louvre Palace in Paris.

Khufu's pyramid is the largest pyramid in Egypt, originally standing at a height of 146.5 metres is now considerably less at 138.8 metres.

This photo was captured during my holiday in cairo on early March09.

The location was clearly at Giza,Cairo. There are 3 main pyramid at Giza and this one called Pyramid of Khafre, the second largest of the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids of Giza and the tomb of the fourth-dynasty pharaoh Khafre (Chephren).

The pyramid has a base length of 215.25 m (706 ft) and originally rises to a height of 143.5 m (471 ft). The Pyramid is made of Limestone blocks (weighing more than 2 tons each). The slope of the pyramid rises at an 53° 10' angle, steeper than its neighbor Khufu’s pyramid which has an angle of 51°50'40". The pyramid sits on bedrock 10 m (33 ft) higher than Khufu’s pyramid which makes it appear to be taller.

The 4500 year old Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara, Egypt. This was the first Pyramid ever built and was by far the tallest building in the World when it was constructed.

I myself was extremely astonished with the majestic beauty of the pyramid. I asked the guide about the shape of the pyramid-- triangle. According to her the shape represents the RAYS of the sun. To better explain the shape of the pyramid, God graciously sent beautiful clouds and weather when we visited the pyramids of Khufu. From the photo above I could figure out the rays are indeed similar to the shape of the pyramid:)

The pyramid remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Pyramids were believed not built by slaves. The vast and fertile land along the Nile River provided enough agricultural land and livestock for the Egyptians. So, therefore when planting and harvest time were over they busied themselves by building temples and pyramids.

In 2006 i took a trip to Egypt. It was the most interesting trip i have been on. Decided to revisit the photos recently and this is my collection. These are the three Pyramids of Giza, and belive me when i say that in Egypt, this was the least interesting sight.

Critique Welcome.

This is a puzzle my dad made from plywood as a copy of a plastic one that he had. Part of the challenge he was working on was to be able to calculate the height of the pyramid if he was using 3/4 inch plywood. In theory this is just trigonometry, but there were some leaps of intuition needed to solve the equation. Something good for a retired math and science teacher.

Here is the fully assembled puzzle: www.flickr.com/gp/157755164@N06/757bS798yh

This was taken for the Tabletop theme of the 52 Weeks of 2025 weekly challenge group.

FYI: The map is from a large National Geographic atlas with copywrite 1981. So Sudan and the other surrounding counties may not reflect the current geopolitical environment.

(Original Title: Gideon's Week)

Cairo, Egypt.

Giza is the name currently given to the gigantic burial grounds of ancient Letopolis (now Cairo). The reconstruction of the Necropolis took place some 5000 years ago.

These Pyramids are the only one of the seven wonders of the world exalted by the Greeks in the 2nd century B.C. still extant (the other six wonders, practically all gone, were: the Lighthouse of Alexandria of Egypt, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, the "Colossus" in the port of Rhodes, the hanging gardens of Babylonia, the statue of Zeus by Phidias in the Temple of Olympia).

P.S: You can reach this site by taxi. From anywhere in Cairo the taxi shouldn't cost you more than 40 to 50 Egyptian pounds.. Make sure it has AC. Settle the fare before you start and where he is gonna drop you off at the site.Get off right at the Pyramid site and not anywhere else. You can have horse carriages or camels for riding there..
