Pyramidal Orchids vary in colour deep pink to white and a single plant can produce up to 35000 seeds
Accessible only by a boat or hazardous swim, Pyramid Rock is a remnant of a lava flow resting on a basement of Woolamai Granite. At low tide there is an extensive area of granite exposed, the largest outcrop of this material outside Cape Woolamai. The basalt is surrounded by an apron of coarse scree and gravel beaches, the dark colour of this material contrasting with the lighter coloured granite. This is one of the few locations on Phillip Island where the lava flows are absent or very thin and represents a high point on the pre-volcanic land surface.
This is the best exposure of the base of the older volcanics on Phillip Island and a major example of the contact between the volcanics and the pre-volcanic land surface. The presence of inter-volcanic gravels indicates the Woolamai Granite was probably never completely covered by lava flows.

Giant's Causeway, Antrim, Northern Ireland.
The Giant's Causeway, located in County Antrim, on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places.

Teotihuacan site in central Mexico was, in ancient times, one of the largest cities in the Americas. Located about 25 mi northeast of present-day Mexico City, Teotihuacan reached the peak of its prosperity and influence around ad 500 or ad 600.
During this period, the city covered an area of 8 sq mi and had at least 125,000 inhabitants and perhaps upto as high as 200,000. The city of Teotihuacan was founded around 200 BC and developed into an important city-state in the 1st century ad.
It had two great stone pyramids, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon (from where this photo were taken). With an original height around 246 ft, the Pyramid of the Sun was one of the largest structures ever built by Native Americans.
Teotihuacan was organized around a central thoroughfare, known as the Avenue of the Dead that we see on this picture. It is flanked by temples and other structures. In the center of the city stood the Ciudadela (the Citadel), a massive rectangular enclosure that contained a large plaza and served as the city’s administrative center.
It is not known what caused the decline of Teotihuacan civilization beginning around ad 650. Drought, crop failure, and invasion may have all played a part.
A very interesting visit.
Devoid of tourists. Taken at the time of the Arab Spring and the Tahrir riots in Cairo. Interesting time for Egypt and interesting to witness, over a three year period of visiting for work, the hopes and aspirations of the Egyptians lifted and then crushed.
