The "Place of Voices" Tikal, Peten, Guatemala. The most famous archeological site in Guatemala. Tikal was the capital of a state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Though monumental architecture at the site dates back as far as the 4th century BC, Tikal peaked during the Classic Period, about 200 to 900 AD.

This was taken during our last Wednesday evening walk, in September. We couldn't quite see the sunset from this position, but I loved the light on the windows.
Or perhaps the pyramids are for the souls of the mice that don't sell before their helium leeks out.
This is the first time I've ever cropped a fish-eye photo.
I have been meaning for years to take a photo of the person inflating the balloons; but hated the result and cropped the circular image to about 70% of the original.
I do like the way that lite fixture sticks out of the circle.
I sort of was imagining a set of pyramids here. I know it seems sort of odd but, for me, the shapes of these gems sort of lend themselves to it.
Anyhow, I wanted really vibrant colors here and I wanted a few shadows so I doubled up my lights on one side and put a lower-level light on the other so that I wasn't shooting into pure darkness.
By the way, you guys may want to know that I only have three lights. Three. One more than two.
The Red Pyramid at Dashur was the third attempt at a pyramid for Snefru, the inaugural 4th Dynasty ruler who (rather madly) ordered the largest construction spree in human history via continual tomb-building projects. Two previous tombs appear to have been abandoned, with the collapse of a partially completed steep-walled pyramid at Meidum, and then the unused Bent pyramid about 2km to the south. The latter's angle was found to be too steep midway during construction and was adjusted to lower angle on its upper half; the Red Pyramid has this same angle (43°) throughout but a larger footprint, bringing it to equal the 105m height of the Bent Pyramid. The result was evidently the first straight-sided true pyramid. Though it was immediately surpassed by the Great Pyramid at Giza, the Red Pyramid remains the third largest ever completed.
In the foreground is the area of the mortuary temple at the western face of the pyramid. Fragments of a pyramidion have been set up on a modern base here.
4th Dynasty, early 26th century BCE, Dashur.
The Great Pyramid (La Gran Pirámide), the largest structure at Uxmal, fronts a sunken courtyard southwest the Governor's Palace. The monument measures about 80m on its n north side and about 30m in height. Its overall shape is that of a truncated square pyramid formed by nine staggered sections. The north stairway leads to a platform on which there is a building whose facade has sculptural elements in the form of the macaw hence, the name, the Temple of the Macaws. The corner figureheads have a more rounded carving to them than others found in Uxmal. They date from the mid-eighth century.
Uxmal, an ancient Maya city of the classical period covering 7500 km2 in el valle de Santa Elena (Santa Ana Valley) in the Puuc region of the southwestern Yucatán Peninsula, is considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Pre-Hispanic Mesoamerica. The site has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its significance.
No-one knows when the Mayan first settled in Uxmal. The Books of Chilam Balam date its founding to around 569 AD by Hun Uitzil Chac Tutil Xiu, but ceramic evidence points to occupation as early as 800 BC. The ruins on the site were constructed starting in the 6th century AD, with continued expansion over the next few centuries as the city became the cultural, economic and political center of the region, with peak population reaching around 25,000. Its buildings are typical of the Puuc style--with smooth low walls and ornate carvings and friezes embedded within the architecture. Unlike most other pre hispanic towns, Uxmal is laid out in relation to astronomical phenomena, and adapted to the topography of the site. Constructed at the thriving city stopped at some point in the 10th century before the Spanish came, but the dates of and reason for its abandonment are unknown.

Nowadays only D2C sets would pretty much exclusively use baseplates but I thought it being used in a normal retail set like this would be a bit of a change of things (using a 16 x 32 baseplate).
The first base started was obviously the pyramid, as it’s an easy thing to make and there isn’t really much to do with it besides adding traps… which is exactly what I put in with the coffin on the side, along with a place that holds jewels and gold.
With the vehicle I picked to go along with this are a helicopter and halftrack.
Honestly I saw this as a chance to bring in a mistika wing with the Helicopter. Now it may be a bit bigger but the inside does have Panel for support.
With the halftrack I thought it would be a good idea to use the 2 seat vehicle base (30149) as part of it. Itt have a lot of those curved slopes with stud notch to make some detail. It able to hold up supplice of 2 3x4 crate, contain a laptop, 2 brush, 2 water bottle, a water container, etc.

We visited Jasper last year and were spared the worst of the forest fires. The Pyramid Lake area was absolutely gorgeous.
