Occasionally I find one of these washed up on the beach. I used to think it was part of some kind of sea plant but it's actually an amazing nursery for embryos of certain fish. This type of egg case is also known as a mermaid's purse. I believe this one is from a Big Skate. It can contain several embryos. Normally, the case would be anchored at the sea floor and the babies would develop for nine months before hatching!

This one was heavy as if it contained fluid but I couldn't tell whether anything was alive inside. Not very likely, but I carefully placed it back into the ocean.

My 6-foot leash is in the picture for some kind of size reference. The case was larger than my entire hand.

Working on the pattern now. This one is in Anna Marie Horner Fabric. One of my new favorites at The Top Stitch. Interior is Full Moon Dots in Cherry. I've been carrying around one made with the Norfolk Rose fabric and really loading it down to test it. I am amazed at the capacity.

I attempted to make a ruffle purse with three ruffles using SImplicity 4673 (a pattern from 2005). However, the ruffles were so frustrating that I altered the pattern slightly and only put on one ruffle. There's no sense of scale in this photo, but it is the perfect size for a little girl or pre-teen. I will probably give this to one of my younger girls as a gift.

Skipper is talking to Scooter before bed. They talk every night for at least 30 minutes chatting about the events of the day and anticipating the excitement of tomorrow's middle school drama.

This is a diorama that I made several years ago. It is a permanent part of my Barbie armoire dollhouse.

Wooden walls and floor. I scored and stained the floor, painted the walls, and built the window frame. Hubs cut the window opening for me and cut the wood to size. I mixed the paint myself to get just the right shade of pale pink.

Dramatic purse made of different felt pieces.

Face of the girl was machine felted and highlighted with fabric paint.

I added also some crochet motifs, satin ribbon etc for embellishments.
