Takht-i-Bhai (also spelled Takht Bahi, Takht Bhai or Takh Bay) is a Parthian archaeological site in Mardan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It was first a Zoroastrian complex which, after the later arrival of Buddhism, was then converted into a Buddhist monastic complex. It is dated to the 1st century BCE.[1] The complex is regarded by archaeologists as being particularly representative of the architecture of Buddhist monastic centers from its era.[2] It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
Etymology
The word Takht-i-Bahi (Urdu: تخت بھائی) may have different explanations. Local believes that site got its name from two wells on the hill or the springs nearby. In Persian, Takht means "top" or "throne" while bahi means "spring" or "water". When combined together its meaning is Spring from the Top or High Spring, and there were two springs on the top of mountains. Another meaning suggested is Throne of Origin.[3]
Location
The ruins are located about 15 kilometers from Mardan in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province.[1] A small fortified city, dating from the same era, sits nearby.[4] The ruins also sit near a modern village known by the same name.[5] It is located around 500 feet atop the small hill and around 2 km from village bazar.[3] The surrounding area is famous for sugar cane, wheat, maize, vegetable, and orchard cultivation.
Structure[edit]
There are four main areas of the Takht Bahi complex:
The Stupa Court, a cluster of stupas located in a central courtyard.[2]
The monastic chambers, consisting of individual cells arranged around a courtyard, assembly halls, and a dining area.[2]
A temple complex, consisting of stupas and similar to the Stupa Court, but of later construction.[2]
The Tantric monastic complex, which consists of small, dark cells with low openings, which may have been used for certain forms of Tantric meditation.[2]
Additional structures on the site may have served as residences or meeting halls, or filled secular purposes.[5] All of the buildings on the site are constructed from local stone, and are mortared with lime and mud.[
History
Archaeologists have divided the history of the complex into four periods, beginning in the 1st Century BCE.[5]
The monastic complex was likely founded in the early 1st Century BCE.[4] It is proven by an inscriptions found bearing the name of Gondophares (20-46 CE).[3] After Gondophares, the place fell under control of Kujula Kadphises,[3] the first Kushan king. This first era continued until the 2nd Century CE, and is associated with the another Kushan king Kanishka, as well as early Parthian and later Kushan kings.[5] The second construction period, which included the creation of the Stupa Court and assembly hall, took place during the 3rd and 4th Centuries CE. A third construction period, associated with the later Kushan dynasty and the Kidara Kushana rulers, occurred during the 4th and 5th centuries. The final construction period, which saw the creation of the so-called Tantric complex, took place in the 6th and 7th Centuries CE, and was overseen by invading Hun rulers.
Despite numerous invasions into the area, Takht-i-Bahi's hilltop location seems to have protected it from destruction, unlike many comparable early Buddhist monastic complexes.[4] The complex was occupied continuously until Late Antiquity (7th century CE),[3] when charitable funding for the site ended.[2]
The first modern historical reference to these ruins was made in 1836 by the French Officer, the Buddhist remains are in a village named Mazdoorabad.[5] Explorations and excavations on this site began in 1864.[5] A significant number of objects from the site can be found in the British Museum.[6] The site underwent a major restoration in the 1920s.[2]

Excerpt from bluelapisroad.wordpress.com/2022/02/18/architectural-gem-...:
The historical Lo Pan Temple (魯班先師廟) on Ching Lin Terrace (青蓮臺) has proven to be a much more resilient establishment. Listed as a Grade 1 historical building, Lo Pan Temple was erected in 1884 by the Contractor Guild, way before Li Po Lung laid hands on the area. The temple construction was supported by 1172 donors, mostly contractors and builders from all over Guangdong (Canton) and Hong Kong. The temple is the city’s only religious establishment solely dedicated to Lo Pan, the patron saint for all Chinese contractors and builders. Lo Pan (魯班) or Lu Ban in Mandarin, was a renowned structural engineer, inventor, carpenter, builder and craftsman in the Spring and Autumn Period in China. During his lifetime, (507 – 444 BC), Lo Pan was responsible for inventing a variety of tools from the saw and prototype of a kite, to military tools and seige ladder used in warfare. Lo Pan was considered to be the master of all craftsmen in the Chinese culture, and has become a deity and patron saint for all contractors.
Maintained by a very old temple keeper “Uncle Fun” (芬叔) in his late 90s, Lo Pan Temple (魯班先師廟) is a remnant from a distinct past, a time when traditional values in the three general construction trades (三行), namely carpentry, cement work, and paint work, were strong. In the old days, paying respect to Lo Pan was a common routine to start the day for all contractors. They would celebrate Lo Pan’s birthday, on the 23rd of June in the Lunar Calendar, with heart beating drums and dragon dances, and share a big pot of “Lo Pan meal” (魯班飯). It was the contractors’ respect to the Lo Pan heritage that has sustained the temple to the present day. Even “Uncle Fun” is serving his temple keeping responsibility out of appreciation for his former patron saint, after a 60-year career in the paint trade until retirement at 80. Working together with architectural conservationist and master carpenter Wong Hung Keung (王鴻強), Uncle “Fun” was also involved in the temple’s major renovation in 2007, repairing structural damages and restoring some of the magnificent wall paintings, stone carvings, and clay sculptures that make Lo Pan Temple one of the most precious architectural gems in Hong Kong.

The weather this weekend has proven to be a mixed bag of rain, wind and a little bit of sun. We decided to do some little DIY at home. Perhaps we will go for a hike in the next few days. We have planned a shoot at Wildlands this week for some testing with our gear. So there will be more photos this week.
For now a few older photos, these photos were taken while hiking near Oudemolen in November 2019.
This is how our winter did look like this year. No snow and only a lot of rain and wind.
We followed one of the available hiking trails. Had some luck with the weather, it only started to rain at the end of the trail, while heading back to the trailhead.
As we do almost every time we took some of our analog gear with us.
Again one of our Canon Eos 3 cameras was used, decided to use some of the original Fujifilm Acros100 again
We still had some of the original version not the new Acros II. These rolls are from the last batch they produced before canceling it with an expiry date 10-2019.
Developing is as always done with our Caffenol recipe, Caffenol-C-L at 21c and stand developing for 55 minutes

This photo was taken on 5 March 2016, when I drove NW of Calgary again. The previous time, two days earlier, had proven to be a complete wash-out as far as finding any owls and I came home with just a few shots of a beautiful little country church. Made me decide to do the long drive again, in the hope that I would be luckier. It turned out to be successful, as we did get some distant views of a Great Gray Owl (or two). It's difficult to know if one is seeing the same individual each time or if they are different.
Tremendous patience is needed to see one of these owls, though one can very occasionally be really lucky. On my last but one trip, there was no sign of an owl and I was the only person there. I spent my time slowly driving back and forth along the road, picking up all the empty beer cans and bottles - two Safeway plastic bags overflowing with them, so maybe around 50? I REALLY like to think that these discards have absolutely nothing to do with birders/photographers, but had been thrown out by local people! It just seems such a coincidence that there were so many in a popular birding area : ( Yesterday, I noticed that there were already several newly discarded cans. I really dislike seeing them, as the sun catches the metal and makes them gleam - so out of place in nature. Also, they can be dangerous to wildlife, especially if glass bottles are broken or sharp edges of metal cans get exposed. I wasn't sure if the Bottle Depot would accept filthy cans and bottles covered in dried mud. I called in at the recycle bins before the Bottle Depot and a youngish man was digging into the bins to find any cans and bottles. I told him I wasn't sure if they would be accepted, but that he was welcome to the ones I had in my car, and he gladly took them. Worked out perfectly in the end.
Back to 5 March, it was such a beautiful day and just had to be spent outdoors. Two or three cars were pulled and friends had been watching a Great Gray Owl that had then flown off into the trees and disappeared. No luck with it returning, but we were told about another owl further along the road. This time, we got distant views of it in the trees at the edge of the forest. It made a couple of dives and was definitely successful in catching a Meadow Vole the one time. So, once again, some distant shots, but they were more than enough to make one feel very happy and grateful, and the long drive feel worthwhile. Always great to have a chance to catch up with friends, too, of course.
"Although the Great Gray Owl is the tallest American owl with the largest wingspan, it is just a ball of feathers. It preys on small mammals and has relatively small feet. Both the Great Horned and Snowy owls weigh half again as much, and have larger feet and talons. The oldest recorded Great Gray Owl was at least 18 years, 9 months old and lived in Alberta." From AllAboutBirds.

ENGLISH:
The theatre was built between 5 and 1 BCE, as has been proven by the dedication of the edifice to Gaius and Lucius Caesar, grandsons of Augustus, who had designated them as his successors.
In the 3rd century a market was built over the theatre, reusing its materials, with a semicircular open space which followed the plan of the orchestra. The market was perhaps abandoned after a fire caused by the Vandals in 425. A market quarter of the Byzantines was established on the site in the 6th century.
During the 13th century the Old Cathedral of the city was built over the upper cavea. In 1988 the first remains of the theatre were discovered during the construction of the Centro regional de artesanía. The archaeological excavations and the restorations were completed in 2003. In 2008 a museum, designed by Rafael Moneo, was opened.
The cavea was carved directly on the rocks in its central part, and tops a series of vaulted galleries. It had a capacity of some 6,000 spectators. It was divided horizontally in three parts (ima, media and summa cavea), in turn divided into radial sectors by the staircases (five in the upper part, seven in the medium and upper ones).
The public entered from two side passages (aditus), where the dedications have been found. The orchestra had a semicircular plan and housed three rows of wooden seats for the authorities (proedria). The stage (proscenium) had a length of 43.60 m. The scaenae frons had three semicircular exedras and decorated by two orders of columns, with bases and capitals in Luni's marble, and shaft in pink travertine of Mula. The stage edifice had a total height of 14.60 m. It have been found three round altars dedicated to the Capituline Triad and to the divinities of Apollo (Graces, Muses and Horae), as well as a statue of Apollo with lyre and one of Rhea Silvia.
Behind the stage building was a portico (porticus post scaenam) with a double porticoed gallery revolving around a central room housing a garden.

Photographing the big eclipse was something of a last minute decision for me. I grabbed my camera, along with my eclipse glasses, and stood in our driveway where I had an unobstructed view of the sun.
After some fiddling with manual settings, I managed to fire off a few decent shots of the eclipse itself. As the sun quickly emerged again, I was about to put the camera down when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I took a couple more quick shots. It wasn't until afterward that I realized what I'd captured. This has to be about as decisive a moment as I'll ever experience.

Since oil has proven to be an effective weapon against the Algus, the Council of Barqa has decided to set fire to a number of tar pits despite the economic implications. The black oily smoke proves effective in deterring the Algus and reverse the effects of their weather manipulation, of which one effects are that it has been snowing in Kaliphlin. Together with the other measures used throughout Historica to fight the Algus, the hopes and prayers of the people of Kaliphlin is that these frosty invaders will retreat to their frozen hell in the north once again.
The lighting of the fires was accomplished by using a blacklight and a long exposure time. Since using only the blacklight makes all the other colors strange, I also mixed it with a bit of flash illuminating the other parts. The hard part was to find a suitable mix between enough blacklight to light the fires and enough flash to not make all the other bricks too purple or blue.
Built for the Frozen Beyond challenge in Guilds of Historica at Eurobricks, and inspired by scenes on TV in my childhood of burning oil wells in the desert...

History
Bombardier's de Havilland Dash 8 has proven to be a popular player in the regional turboprop airliner market. De Havilland Canada began development of the Dash 8 in the late 1970s in response to what it saw as a considerable market demand for a new generation 30 to 40 seat commuter airliner. The first flight of the first of two preproduction aircraft was on June 20 1983, while Canadian certification was awarded on September 28 1984. The first customer delivery was to norOntair of Canada on October 23 1984. Like the Dash 7, the Dash 8 features a high mounted wing and Ttail, and has an advanced flight control system and large full length trailing edge flaps. Power meanwhile is supplied by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW120 series (originally designated PT7A) turboprops. Initial Dash 8 production was of the Series 100, which was followed by the Series 100A in 1990. The 100A introduced a revised interior with extra headroom and PW120A turboprops. The Series 100B was offered from 1992 with more powerful PW121s for better climb and airfield performance. Production since switched to the improved performance Dash 8-200. Announced in 1992 and delivered from April 1995 the -200 features more powerful PW123C engines which give a 56km/h (30kt) increase in cruising speed, as well as greater commonality with the stretched Dash 8300. The 200B derivative has PW123Bs for better hot and high performance. From the second quarter of 1996 all Dash 8s delivered have been fitted with a computer controlled noise and vibration suppression system (or NVS). To reflect this the designation was changed to Dash 8Q (Q for `quiet'). In 1998 that was changed again to Dash 8 Q200 when a new interior was introduced.

Crepuscular rays
Crepuscular rays /kr?'p?skj?l?r/ (more commonly known as sunbeams, sun rays, or god rays), in atmospheric optics, are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the sun is located. These rays, which stream through gaps in clouds (particularly stratocumulus) or between other objects, are columns of sunlit air separated by darker cloud-shadowed regions. Despite seeming to converge at a point, the rays are in fact near-parallel shafts of sunlight. Their apparent convergence is a perspective effect, similar, for example, to the way that parallel railway lines seem to converge at a point in the distance. The sun rays do converge to the sun, but the sun is much further away than the rays might make it look like.[2]
The name comes from their frequent occurrences during twilight hours (those around dawn and dusk), when the contrasts between light and dark are the most obvious. Crepuscular comes from the Latin word "crepusculum", meaning twilight.[3]
Another sunrise shot from the 38th and Blake Pedestrian Bridge, which may represent my last sunrise shot from here as I don’t think I can do better. At least as far as sunrise goes anyway. It’s proven to be a much larger challenge than I would have thought, but the angle from the bridge to the city just does not lend itself to sunrise. I have been on this bridge countless times and observed numerous beautiful sunrises which just didn’t reach far enough to get into the shot.
Maybe in a few months when the sun is further south, but by then the bridge will be open to the public and all of you will be cramming to get on it. (I’m picturing a scene similar to shooting fall foliage over Maroon Lake towards the bells with camera’s lined up side by side).
I may explore this location for sunset shots if I can work out the logistics with my schedule which has proved challenging thus far. I believe the angle is much better suited to capturing light from behind the city, though I don’t what would happen to the foreground.
I purposely kept this shot dark and went with an earlier shot for the foreground as I processed it because the lamppost light and shadows add to its mood. I found as the light increased the RR yard lost a lot of appeal. The color in the sky was sacrificed in order to properly blend with the foreground but comparing the options side by side this seemed the best way to present the scene. Normally, I process my shots to be printed and don’t even think about web presentation, but this one may need to be lightened for printing as the shadows may be too dark. I'm very interested in any feedback you're willing to provide about the shot or the way I presented it. Thanks!

For the Daily Dog Challenge -- 3/29 "Tiny"
For 52 Weeks for Dogs -- 13/52
A year ago, we took Rose's picture in this same spot. I had the idea that she might be too big a year later to fit inside, but she's proven to be one tiny Greyhound. I do think it's fun how this log makes her look tinier than she really is, though. This year, she was a lot more interested in going through, mostly because she likes the agility tunnel in class.
