Great Spotted Woodpecker - Dendrocopus Major

The great spotted woodpecker occurs in all types of woodlands and is catholic in its diet, being capable of extracting seeds from pine cones, insect larvae from inside trees or eggs and chicks of other birds from their nests. It breeds in holes excavated in living or dead trees, unlined apart from wood chips. The typical clutch is four to six glossy white eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs, feed the chicks and keep the nest clean. When the young fledge they are fed by the adults for about ten days, each parent taking responsibility for feeding part of the brood.
The great spotted woodpecker occurs in Eurasia from the British Isles to Japan, and in North Africa from Morocco to Tunisia, and it is absent only from those areas too cold or dry to have suitable woodland habitat. It is found in a wide variety of woodlands, broadleaf, coniferous or mixed, and in modified habitats like parks, gardens and olive groves. It occurs from sea-level to the tree line, up to 2,000 m (6,600 ft) in Europe, 2,200 m (7,200 ft) in Morocco and 2,500 m (8,200 ft) in Central Asia.
The great spotted woodpecker became extinct in the island of Ireland in the seventeenth century, due to deforestation, but the island was naturally recolonised by this species, with the first proven nesting in County Down in 2007. Its expansion in range is continuing, with breeding proven or suspected in at least 10 counties by 2013, with the main concentration in Down and County Wicklow. Genetic evidence shows the birds to be of British, rather than Scandinavian, ancestry, with the populations in Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic having separate origins. The great spotted woodpecker was also found to have been nesting in the Isle of Man from 2009.

Wondering about the weekend!
The most widely distributed of its genus, the Amethyst Woodstar is found in a great variety of habitats throughout its circum-Amazonian distribution. The male is mainly bronzy green above with a prominently forked tail, white sides to the rump, and a striking amethyst-colored throat, bordered by a white breast band. The female has a green-spotted white throat, orange-rufous sides to the underparts, and a narrow white line behind the eye. The Amethyst Woodstar has been recorded taking the nectar of a large number of plant species, and at least occasionally the species hawks insects in flight. This woodstar is probably largely sedentary, but local movements potentially occur, though have yet to be proven. The species is usually not uncommon, but is rather rare and has perhaps declined in northeast Argentina, and is very poorly known in Colombia.

La cascata principale, costituita da due salti, si trova a poco meno di 7 km a nord-est in linea d’aria dall’abitato di Dolianova, in un’area selvaggia a cui si accede da una strada sterrata che si imbocca dopo aver superato (provenendo da Dolianova) la frazione di San Giorgio.

Una empinada calle constituye el eje urbano en cuyo extremo superior se ubica la plaza mayor, auténtico ágora que acoge en su centro el emblemático "rollo" bajomedieval y que reúne en su entorno el Castillo y el Ayuntamiento.
Calatañazor es un conjunto medieval en su interior y no menos en su exterior, rodeado como está de recia muralla con lienzos y cubos que cubren todo su perímetro, con excepción del flanco oriental, defendido por un profundo tajo por donde discurre el río Milanos. Fue declarado Conjunto Histórico-Artístico Nacional en 1962.

In lontananza, provenendo da Punta Manara, il promontorio di Sestri Levante con la Baia del Silenzio e poi Chiavari e il Monte di Portofino.

Poco dopo aver superato il 20mo km del vecchio tracciato della strada statale 125, in località Pixina Nuxedda, si imbocca sulla destra (provenendo da Cagliari) una strada asfaltata seguendo le indicazioni per la tomba di giganti di Is Concias. Dopo circa 1 km, occorre svoltare ancora a destra e la strada inizia ad inerpicarsi con pendenze notevoli. In questo primo tratto la strada è molto panoramica, e si può osservare buona parte della costa meridionale dell’isola e l’agglomerato urbano formato dalla città di Cagliari e dal suo hinterland. Successivamente si può osservare sulla sinistra la bella cascata di Sa Spindula de S’Axedu (visibile solo dopo abbondanti piogge); più avanti, a pochi metri dalla carreggiata sulla destra, si può ammirare la tomba di giganti di Is Concias, superbamente conservata. Se si prosegue ulteriormente sulla sinistra si raggiunge la piccola chiesetta di San Pietro. Da questo punto la strada, che attraversa una bella foresta, diventa molto più stretta, rendendo complesso il transito di due automobili. La strada si inerpica notevolmente e ridiventa panoramica, sino a raggiungere nel punto più alto (in cui è stata scattata questa foto) la strada asfaltata proveniente da Monte Cresia.

Mölln is a town in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is surrounded by several small lakes (Stadtsee, Schulsee, Ziegelsee, Hegesee, Schmalsee, Lütauer See, Drüsensee, Pinnsee).
The Elbe-Lübeck Canal flows through the town. Mölln belongs to the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg.
The town was founded in the 12th century. It rapidly became an important town, due to the Old Salt Route, on which the salt produced in the salt mines of Lüneburg (Lower-Saxony) was shipped to the baltic harbour of Lübeck, and the Stecknitz Canal, which was a precursor of the today's Elbe-Lübeck Canal.
Although situated in the midst of the medieval duchy of Lauenburg, the town was mortgaged to the Hanseatic town of Lübeck, which ruled Mölln from 1359 to 1683. Back from this times dates the Möllner Schützengilde von 1407 e.V. which was founded 601 years ago and still exists today with almost 300 members.
Mölln calls itself the Eulenspiegel town, due to Till Eulenspiegel, a legendary trickster known for exposing vices and provoking thought. Eulenspiegel is said to have lived in Braunschweig (Brunswick), but his last year of life he allegedly resided in Mölln. He died from the plague in 1350. Although his existence is not proven, there are several monuments to him in Mölln.

Provenendo da sud, prima di accedere all’abitato di Baunei (all’altezza del km 153) si svolta a destra in direzione di Sa Pedra Longa, un’imponente formazione rocciosa a picco sul mare. Mentre si percorre la panoramica strada sulla sinistra si osserva maestosa una formazione montuosa-collinare che prende il nome di Punta Su Mulone. Se si prosegue ulteriormente si raggiunge una piazzola panoramica da cui si gode di un panorama fantastico sulla costa dominata da Sa Pedra Longa chiamata anche Sa Perda Longa.
En provenance d'Ambérieu-en-Bugey, ce train commence à enchaîner les courbes et contre courbes le long du Rhône entre Anglefort et Bellegarde-sur-Valserine.
Jusqu'à Publier, son terminus, la locomotive de pousse n'est pas nécessaire puisque ce train est vide.
Mais elle le sera indispensable lors du retour avec un train chargé d'eau, et surtout cette configuration facilite les manœuvres sur le faisceau encombré de la société des eaux d'Evian.

L'origine du mot bouchon n'est pas bien connue. Trois hypothèses sont avancées:
- le bouchon des bouteilles de vin.
- le bouquet de lierre ou de genêt suspendu à la devanture de l'établissement, indiquant qu'un cabaretier y servait du vin et de la nourriture contre de l’argent (en ancien français "bousche" signifie fagot, provenant du latin populaire "bosca", broussailles)...
- la botte de paille mise à disposition pour bouchonner les chevaux à l’extérieur des auberges.
On pourrait penser également à l'association des mots "mâchon" et "bouche"(?)

La section de la petite Bresse entre Bourg-en-Bresse et Ambérieu-en-Bugey voit passer (quelques fois) pas mal de circulation et elle a été équipée il y a quelques années de l'IPCS.
En ce jour de Février 2022, le trafic était assez soutenu dans ce secteur. La ligne était utilisée d'une part par les nombreux TGV en provenance de la bifurcation de Savoie et d'autre part les frets en provenance de la grande Bresse.
C'est ainsi que le train de sel du samedi s'est retrouvé à contre-sens entre Bourg-en-Bresse et Saint-Martin-du-Mont.
Trois minutes après son passage, un TGV pour Bourg-Saint-Maurice déboulait à pleine vitesse pour dépasser le fret.
En provenance de Paris, ce TGV Duplex est vu après avoir rebroussé chemin en gare d'Annemasse.
Sur fond enneigé du sommet Suisse de la Dôle (1677 mètres d'altitude) il remonte maintenant la vallée de l'Arve afin de se diriger vers son terminus Saint Gervais les Bains - Le Fayet.
Quelques années plus tard, des travaux de suppression du passage à niveau situé derrière le TGV ont totalement métamorphosé les lieux.
Et depuis cette photo le nombre de TGV Duplex en livrée Atlantique n'a fait que diminuer au profit de la livrée Carmillon appliquée lors du passage des rames en rénovation.
Blocs de calcaire provenant du tombeau du général Iwrky. Celui-ci avait servi sous les ordres du père de Ramsès II, Sethi I, avant d'être promu commandant de l'armée égyptienne par Ramsès.
Le bloc du centre représente le pharaon terrassant trois des ennemis de l'Egypte, un Syrien, un Nubien et un Lybian.
À l'instar d'autres personnages historiques dont la gloire a traversé les siècles, Ramsès II est réputé pour être un grand guerrier et conquérant, ce qui lui vaut en grande partie l'épithète de "Grand" dans les ouvrages historiques traitant de cette période de l'Antiquité égyptienne. Il lutte contre les Hittites et, assurant la domination de l'Égypte sur la Nubie et ses gisements aurifères, il y construit de nombreux temples dont ceux d'Abou Simbel. Après la bataille de Qadesh en l'an IV de son règne contre l'armée Hittite de Muwatalli II, la frontière sur l'Oronte est stabilisée.
Percorrendo la bellissima SS125, provenendo da sud, dopo aver superato l’abitato di Baunei si raggiunge tra il 177 e 178 km il valico di Genna e Cruxi (910 m. s.l.m.). A questo punto si devia a sinistra percorrendo una stretta strada asfaltata che si snoda nel primo tratto in un altissimo terrazzo naturale da cui si gode di un’ampia veduta della vallata su cui venne realizzato l’abitato di Urzulei. Proseguendo lungo la medesima strada si possono raggiungere delle mete turistiche importanti come le tombe di giganti di Is Arenas e la località di Sedda Ar Baccas da dove è possibile accedere al tratto meridionale del canyon di Su Gorroppu.

En 2021, le parc a changé de propriétaire. Le célèbre créateur de mode, Christian Louboutin en a fait son havre de paix. Les jardins restent ouverts au public en semaine .

Goldenseal is starting to bloom here at Lake Meyer Park, one of the few places you might find this pretty little plant in the Driftless Region. By autumn a little red fruit looking much like a red raspberry will replace the white flower. Go to any herbal store and you will find some form of goldenseal on the shelf since some folks claim that it can improve your cardiovascular, digestive, nervous and immune systems and keep you in perfect health. The only medically-proven fact about goldenseal is that taken in large doses it can cause heart failure. Sad to say, since it is such a popular folk remedy the root is in high demand and looters routinely dig the plants up to make a buck. Goldenseal's root really is a gorgeous golden color and was used prehistorically to make a gorgeous yellow dye.
Imagine my surprise when I showed up to work, and the night train to Milwaukee had the executive E9's for the power on this evening. The E9's had some work done and were put to the test on our train. Needless to say they performed rather nicely.
We had better get a move on, as a summer storm is rolling in quickly from the west.

En provenance de Bourg-Saint-Maurice, le dernier Ouigo de la saison d'hiver 2021/2022 approche d'Albertville où il marquera un arrêt d'une quinzaine de minutes avant de repartir dans le sens contraire de son arrivée.
C'est la dernière rame TGV de cette série qui mènera ce train vers son terminus Roissy-Aéroport-Charles-De-Gaulle-2.

Dopo circa otto ore di cammino, dalle 9 del mattino, all'ultimo non c'era neppure più il tempo di scattare una foto : i miei compagni volevano prendere il treno delle 18.
Io avrei voluto prendermela più comoda, camminare con più tranquillità, magari prendendo il treno successivo, anche da sola . Non è stato possibile : i responsabili della gita non possono lasciarti sola.
Così, superato il Santuario di Monte Nero ( ci sono le foto di circa due anni prima, in cui avevamo fatto il percorso inverso ) ci siamo incamminati per un sentiero sassoso quasi correndo. Questa è l'unica foto che ho scattato in fretta. Mancavano circa 40 minuti di discesa
En provenance d'Ambérieu en Bugey, c'est dans la courbe d'Artemare qu'est vu ce lourd train de gravier à destination de Viry (74).
En ce 18 Mars 2014, c'est encore Fret SNCF qui en assure la traction avec, ce jour là, en tête la BB 26225 (aujourd'hui louée à Naviland Cargo) et en pousse la BB 26203.
En décembre 2016 ce marché a été repris par RegioRail.
Puis l'exploitation de la gravière est arrivée à son terme, conduisant à la suppression du train en Avril 2018.

Le 14 mai 2019, la 186 255 arborant les couleurs Lineas emmène vers Châtelet le train 49839 provenant d'Isbergues (F).
Le convoi est photographié sur la Ligne 96 peu avant Neufvilles.
LOKOMOTION ES64U2-013, Vogl (ligne Rosenheim - München), 09 Mai 2008.
La ES64U2-013 de LOKOMOTION, avec logos "KOMBI-VERKEHR", remonte la ligne Rosenheim - München avec une rame de conteneurs en provenance d'Italie par les points frontaliers de Brenner et Kufstein. Le train approche de Vogl, avec les Aples en toile de fond.
ÖBB 1116 174, Boppard im Hamm (ligne Mainz - Koblenz), 14 Juin 2015.
Au petit matin du 14 Juin 2015, l'EN 420 fait route vers Düsseldorf au crochet de la 1116 174, et passe aux pieds des vignes qui bordent la vallée du Rhein au nord de Boppard. A cette époque, le train n'achemine encore qu'une tranche en provenance de Wien, alors qu'une tranche supplémentaire depuis Innsbruck sera créée peu de temps après.
Le soleil perce enfin les nuages d'une matinée peu lumineuse.
Le premier train à se présenter au soleil sera un train de traverses béton en provenance d'Italie.
Il est tracté de Modane à Ambérieu-en-Bugey par l'opérateur Italien Mercitalia Rail qui loue des E 37500 pour rouler sur ce parcours français.
Arrivé à Ambérieu, ce train sera repris par RegioRail pour être livré à Portes les Valence.

Profitant de ses allers-retours quotidiens sur les mêmes trains, la BB22347 est vue lors de son retour à la cité phocéenne en tête du Corail 4665 provenant de Bordeaux. Le train vient alors de passer la petite gare de Montbartier tout juste rénovée.
