A large crowd of protesters gathered and marched along the block in front of 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman's office at 4544 N. Broadway from 5-7pm on Wednesday March 6th. Demonstrators were protesting the Alderman's asking food trucks from organizations such as the Salvation Army and the Night Ministry to stop distributing food to the homeless in the neighborhood. Addtionally, the protesters expressed concern at the alderman's catering to gentrfying developers at the expense of the homeless and the poor. Food Not Bombs served soup during the protest, and a new group called Uptown Uprising has been formed to continue to address these concerns in their neighborhood: www.facebook.com/pages/Uptown-Uprising/173397179474980

In London, a few days before the US invaded Iraq, these students staged a sitting protest in the intersection at Parliament Square. The cops (or bobbies, I guess) had to literally drag them away.
