On November 5th, 2008, Proposition 8 was passed by California voters by a margin of 52.5% vs 47.5%. Following the passing of the proposition, many California counties have stopped issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples. As a result wide-spread protests have been documented across the state - San Francisco experiencing one of the largest on November 7th, 2008 as protesters took to the street.

The protest was against the scrapping of the educational Maintenance Allowance for poorer 16-18 year olds.

“The lead-up to Saturday’s protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government can’t ignore”, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.
A video shows young activists publicising Saturday’s nationwide protests with footage from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Nelson.
Action in the 22 centres starts at 10am in Raglan and many of the larger centre marches begin at 1pm, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
“People have been incredibly creative”, Miller said. “In Christchurch a giant plain-packaged cigarette packet will be marching in the crowd, while Auckland will be led by an enormous Trojan Horse, locked in a tug-of-war between major commercial interests and activist communities.”
“Around the country everyday kiwis will be photographed for a virtual campaign with signs saying ‘I am a ___________ and I say #TPPANoDeal.’ Already this campaign has been very popular.”
“Trade minister Tim Groser needs to recognise that people don’t buy the ‘trust me’ line. They want to be listened to when they say they don’t want the TPPA. And they deserve to be listened to.”

We were fortunate enough to be in Berlin in '89 and I suppose fortunate enough not to be in Cairo tonight but it did remind us of the buzz (I don't know how else to describe it) of people with freedom in their grasp. This isn't a political view, it's just an appreciation of human spirit. Let's hope for a peaceful outcome.

Yesterday 22nd Aug 2013, the IAWM (Irish anti War Movement) organised Bradley Manning solidarity protest in front of the American Embassy in Dublin.
Bradley Manning was sentenced 35 years for exposing the illegal acts of the American government!
Bradley Manning has asked from now on to be described by female pronouns and to be called Chelsea.
Taken on July 9th, a national day of strike against the government of Alan García in Peru. The people are upset about the high cost of living, the harsh repression against a series of prior mass movements, and the sale of large parts of the rain forest to logging companies.

A Peaceful protester gets tackled by officers after been shot with sand bags. Officers rushed in waving billy clubs and surrounded the protester after he was being pinned down under police. He was not displaying any threatening behavior before getting shot.
