The election for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court was very close, but was won by Allison Riggs by a margin of about 800 votes. After the announcement, challenger Jefferson Griffin and his legal team disputed over 60,000 votes claiming administrative errors. It’s become a flashpoint in the state that is still smoldering. The election was in early November and the issue is still not resolved. Many of the protesters in these pictures were notified of administrative issues with their votes. A hyphen in a voter’s last name was a common “administrative issue” that caused a vote to be cancelled. The recount of votes without the 60,000 votes will certainly put Jefferson Griffon on the bench of the NC Supreme Court.

Boston Tea party Ship and Museum Boston Massachusetts Nov 2009
The Boston Tea Party was a direct action by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. The incident remains an iconic event of American history, and has often been referenced in other political protests.
August 27, 2007 the Tea Party Museum suffered a fire, which lasted for a several hours. Fortunately, historic exhibits had already been removed before the fire and the museum was closed for renovations and had no visitors. The actual Tea Party ships (which are actually are all replicas) are safely in Gloucester being renovated for the re-opening of the museum in June 2012. Here is a look at the historic location on November 08th 2009.

We were fortunate enough to be in Berlin in '89 and I suppose fortunate enough not to be in Cairo tonight but it did remind us of the buzz (I don't know how else to describe it) of people with freedom in their grasp. This isn't a political view, it's just an appreciation of human spirit. Let's hope for a peaceful outcome.

Around 1500 people from Mid-Wales and the borders of England gathered in Cardiff Bay and marched on the Senedd to protest at the Welsh Assembly Government's Technical Adice Note 8 which outlines planning for huge new windfarms and transmission by 100 miles of new pylons from Powys, Wales, into Shropshire, England. 4 of the leading campaigners marched six days to attend the rally.
In 1976, DeGrazia engaged in a protest against the Federal Inheritance Tax. The artist claimed the U.S. Internal Revenue Service rulings made him "a millionaire on paper, but my heirs will have to pay taxes for which there is no money." In his well-publicized protest, DeGrazia rode horseback into the Superstition Mountains and burned about 100 of his paintings, an estimated worth of 1.5 million dollars at the time. The only way for DeGrazia to avoid this huge government taxation was for him to make his Gallery In the Sun a non-profit foundation. Happy Throwback Thursday!
