This is my first time really using an off camera flash.
The subjects are my husband and daughter. I wish his elbow wasn't cut off, but we were moving quick because the sun was so low.
Criticism is welcome and appreciated. Photography in general is a recent hobby I've picked up, but would like some feedback.
The flash was to the left of subjects, just a little below and pointing upwards - 1/4(I think!) power at approx. 8:00 pm.
Bare flash.

The annual BHAA Government Services/Social Protection Group's 5 Mile Road Race took place on Tuesday 28th May 2013 at 20:00 in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. The course is a fast flat course which begins on the Dunboyne-Maynooth Road between the two entrances to Dunboyne Castle Estate. The race then proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction back to the Dunboyne Athletic Club on the Rooske Road in Dunboyne. The race reaches higher standards with every passing year. Paul Gorey and his team of volunteers must be given great credit for putting on such a wonderful race event. Thanks are also extended to Dunboyne Athletic Club, the BHAA, and the local community who all make this possible.
This photograph is part of a large set of photographs taken at the finish line area of the race. There are also some races of the buildup and the start of the race.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A bright sunny evening with little breeze
Course: This course is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. These are nice narrow country roads with shelter provided by mature hedgerows. This year the race finished with 3/4 of a lap of the Dunboyne AC track.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with BHAA Events - served outside the scouts hall at the track.

Can I use the photograph with the watermark?
Yes! Absolutely - you can post this photograph to your social networks, blogs, micro-blogging, etc.
How can I get a full resolution, no watermark, copy of these photographs?
All of the photographs here on this Flickr set have a visible watermark embedded in them. All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available, free, at no cost, at full resolution WITHOUT watermark. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.
Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.
In summary please remember - all we ask is for you to link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. Taking the photographs and preparing them for online posting does take a significant effort. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc.
If you would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?
Some people offer payment for our photographs. We do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would pay for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Calls for protection of Iraqi diversity on International Day for Tolerance
Baghdad, 02 December 2016 – In pursuance of their mandates to advance inclusive political dialogue and national reconciliation as well as build intercultural understanding, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the UNESCO Office in Iraq, jointly organized today at the Martyr Monument in Baghdad a multimedia event and a Peace and Unity Concert in observation of the International Day for Tolerance.
The event was part of a broader effort to raise awareness of a need to preserve the fertile diversity of Iraq’s culture to counter a rise in intolerance and hatred. It aimed to encourage respect, dialogue and cooperation as well as mutual understanding among different cultures, sects, ethnic and religious communities of Iraq in order to actively combat fear, hatred and extremism.
Representatives of the Government of Iraq and a number of diplomats, in addition to civil society activists attended the event at Baghdad’s Martyr Monument.
Addressing the audience, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Iraq for Political and Electoral Affairs, Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, condemned the senseless violence perpetrated by ISIL (Daesh), which he said deprives Iraqis of their basic right to security.
“Healing the wounds that ISIL has inflicted in the social fabric of Iraq can only be achieved through promoting the values of tolerance, fraternity, compassion and coexistence”, highlighted DSRSG Busztin. “Confronting ISIL is based on upholding the values that are contrary to the barbarism adopted by the group; and tolerance comes at the forefront of these tools”.
Speaking at the event, the UNESCO Representative to Iraq, Ms. Louise Haxthausen, said: “Tolerance is the appreciation of the rich diversity of Iraq’s culture. Today, this diversity is under threat and we must stand up together against those who seek to annihilate this diversity”.
Twenty-one years ago, on 16 November 1995, the Member States of UNESCO adopted the “Declaration of Principles on Tolerance” solemnly proclaiming 16 November as the International Day for Tolerance.

This morning, on Nov. 5, 2025, Premier David Eby; Chief Marilyn Slett, president, Coastal First Nations; Mayor Garry Reece, Lax Kw’alaams; Jason Alsop, president, Haida Nation; Paula Amos, Indigenous Tourism B.C.; and Clarence Innis, Hereditary Elder, all signed the following declaration:
The North Coast Protection Declaration
“For generations, communities have built and sustained the economy of the North Coast – a legacy that continues today through a multibillion-dollar, sustainable conservation economy that supports thousands of livelihoods in fisheries, tourism, renewable energy and stewardship.
“Protecting our coast is not a barrier to economic prosperity – it is the source of it.
“The Great Bear Rainforest agreements have directly created more than 1,400 permanent jobs and 140 new businesses to date – and counting. In the past 15 years, the conservation economy has generated nearly $2 billion in economic value for British Columbia and for Canada. This is economy that invests back into communities, setting the foundation for ongoing prosperity.
“The oil tanker ban is the result of over 50 years of advocacy from First Nations and coastal communities, and supported by federal and provincial governments of all political stripes. Formalized into law in 2019, the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act did not create this protection – it codified a longstanding commitment that has kept one of the most ecologically and culturally rich marine regions on Earth safe from the threat of crude-oil spills.
“Repealing the tanker ban would risk near-term major projects and cheat B.C.’s economy out of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in investments. Over the long term, the consequence of a crude-oil spill in these waters would be generations of lost livelihoods and irreversible ecological damage.
“We urge the federal government to stand firm in its commitment to uphold the tanker ban. Protecting the North Coast is not an item for negotiation – it is a national responsibility, and it is a quantifiable investment in Canada’s treasured marine environment and the economic prosperity of future generations.
“We choose progress.
“We choose protection.
“We choose: Our Economy. Our Coast.”
