The Bonelli's eagle is a strictly protected and endangered species in Cyprus, safeguarded by national law and European Union directives. Active conservation efforts are ongoing, primarily through the EU-funded LIFE Bonelli eastMed project and local organizations.
Legal Protection and Status
The Bonelli's eagle is strictly protected. It is listed on Annex I of the EU Birds Directive.
Under the Protection and Management of Wild Birds and Game Law in Cyprus, the species is strictly protected. Killing one results in a fine of €16,000.
The species is endangered in Europe. The Cyprus population is estimated at 31-39 pairs. This population is considered the fourth largest in Europe.
Key Conservation Efforts
Several initiatives and projects address threats to the Bonelli's eagle in Cyprus. These threats include poisoning, electrocution or collision with power lines and wind turbines, and human disturbance.

I knew this concertina packaging would come in handy so glad I held on to it, but unfortunately the red wine bottle it was protecting is no longer around (for some reason) so I had to substitute it with a bottle of red grape juice instead. For Crazy Tuesday.
The Protection of the Theotokos or the Intercession of the Theotokos (Church Slavonic: Покровъ, Pokrov, Ukrainian: Покрова, Pokrova), like the (Greek: Σκέπη, Sképē) has a complex meaning. First of all, it refers to a cloak or shroud, but it also means protection or intercession. For this reason, the name of the feast is variously translated as the Veil of Our Lady, the Protecting Veil of the Theotokos. It is often translated as Feast of the Intercession or Feast of the Holy Protection.

All those entering the territory of the Pokrovsky Monastery in Suzdal through the Holy Gates are greeted by an image of the Holy Virgin with the Intercession (protecting veil), a sign of her heavenly protection.
The current image above the arch was created in the early 2000s, approximating the Byzantine style and differing greatly from the previous painting, which was done in a more academic manner. I like today's version better, although those accustomed to the previous version may be dissatisfied with such changes.

Сегодняшее изображение над аркой создано в начале 2000-х, приближено к византйскому стилю и сильно отличается от прежней росписи, выполненной в более академичной манере. Мне сегодняшний вариант нравится больше, хотя у привыкших к прежней версии можно встретить недовольство такими переменами.

Elephants are large mammals of the family Elephantidae in the order Proboscidea. Elephantidae is the only surviving family of the order Proboscidea; other, now extinct, members of the order include deinotheres, gomphotheres, mastodons, anancids and stegodontids; Elephantidae itself also contains several now extinct groups, such as the mammoths and straight-tusked elephants.
Elephants are herbivorous and can be found in different habitats including savannahs, forests, deserts, and marshes. They prefer to stay near water. They are considered to be a keystone species due to their impact on their environments. Other animals tend to keep their distance from elephants while predators, such as lions, tigers, hyenas, and any wild dogs, usually target only young elephants calves. Elephants have a society in which multiple family groups come together to socialise. Females cows tend to live in family groups, which can consist of one female with her calves or several related females with offspring. The groups are led by an individual known as the matriarch, often the oldest cow.

A blue-billed white tern, or manu o Kū, tends to his one-week-old downy hatchling clutching to the branch of a monkeypod tree. The manu-o-Kū is an arboreal nesting pelagic seabird that doesn’t actually fabricate a nest; instead, it uses a flat or hollow or fork in the tree to keep the single egg from rolling away. The hatchling uses its strong, clawed, semipalmate feet to cling to the tree branch on which it will balance until fledging. Parents alternate brooding duties until a week or two after hatching when the chick can thermoregulate and be left unattended for up to several hours. Adults fish up to 120 miles offshore and return with fresh provisions rather than consuming then regurgitating a meal for their chick. This avian behavior was known to Polynesian voyagers and other seafarers. A landmass that may be out of view over the horizon could be located by observing and following these birds conveying their catch back to their nestling.
This is in a Provincial Park, where they can't really control active beavers like they do on private property, and so they can only control their damage with structures like this. By protecting an important drainage channel with these, beaver can't dam it, and the water can get closer to where it needs to go expeditiously...

Holy Protection Monastery, Golosiivsky Desert - a monastery of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, located in the forest on the southern outskirts of Kyiv. Golosiivsky Desert is the place of monastic exploits of Kyiv ascetics of piety in the 18th-19th centuries, and from the second half of the 19th century - the residence of the Kyiv metropolitans.

I was so pleased I got to visit Godrevy last November. I arrived early afternoon so I could scout around and find a composition I could work with during sunset. I would have liked to have shot the island and lighthouse from the rocks on the beach but the tide level wouldn’t have given me the separation I was wanting so that will have to wait for another day.
I captured this particular scene from a rocky ledge close to the seas edge. It was very exposed with a fair amount of sea spray to deal with, but I did get a direct view onto the island and lighthouse.
I also had the pleasure of meeting and shooting alongside fellow Flickr friend Brian Pedlar :-)

Bavaria's forests are frequently damaged by game. The best protection against such damage would be adapted game populations, which would have to be regulated by hunting. Counts and checks of bite damage show that the game population is far too high. Complex protective measures are necessary to enable the forest to be rejuvenated with tree species appropriate to the location. This also includes the protection of individual trees against browsing shown here.
In Bayerns Wäldern kommt es häufig zu Wildschäden. Der beste Schutz gegen solche Schäden wären angepasste Wildbestände, die durch Jagd reguliert werden müssten. Zählungen und das Überprüfen der Bissschäden zeigen, dass der Wildbestand viel zu hoch ist. Um ein Verjüngen des Waldes durch standortgemäße Baumarten zu ermöglichen, sind aufwändige Schutzmaßnahmen nötig. Dazu gehört auch der hier gezeigte Verbissschutz einzelner Bäume.
