Aquella mañana de Abril (2008), durante mi escala en Berlín, amaneció con un Sol espléndido y decidí acercarme al Zoo, pero según pasaban las horas, el cielo se fue cubriendo con nubes negras que no presagiaban nada bueno fotográficamente hablando.
Para cuando llegué a la zona de los orangutanes ya estaba lloviznando y el uso de isos altos se hacía necesario para que la foto saliera bien expuesta.
Aquí la D2x y mi fabuloso y recién estrenado Sigma 100-300 f4 demostraron formar una magnífica pareja.
El primero que llamó mi atención fue el orangután macho que mordisqueaba tranquilamente una lechuga en su zona de descanso a cubierto de la lluvia que cada vez se hacía más intensa.
En un momento levanté la vista y me fijé en que tenía un joven espectador observándome detenidamente a más de 10 metros de altura, en ese momento no lo pensé dos veces, miré por el visor, ajusté el zoom a 240mm, compuse la escena, moví el punto de enfoque a la izquierda y disparé una sola foto.

I asked her if I could make a portrait of her dog. I told her that the light of the moment was really awesome and made his eyes shine in a beautiful way.
She gave a hint of a smile (the same extraordinary grin as in the photo) and said -of course, you can-
They were resting on the ground so I had to have a quick bend of my knees… when suddenly her dog started to feel a bit jealous… he felt that I really wanted to make a picture of both.

This is a tribute to the last Republican president who: ended World War II, started no war (except for his Vice-President on the day he went to the hospital with a heart attack); restored the economy; paid the WWII debt; proclaimed himself the peace president, sent the returning GIs to college; rescued Europe with the Marshall Plan (officially the European Recovery Program, ERP); started the interstate highway infrastructure (sponsored and signed the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956; sponsored and signed the Civil Rights Bill of 1957; balanced the budget, three times; ended the Korean War; he kept the country at peace.
His top tax rate was 91% while Romney crowed about his 15%. Eisenhower loathed McCarthy. Spoke to the Congress of the United Sates: American working men and women needed the protection of law in order to guarantee them the free exercise of their fight to organize into unions and to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing. The US labor and industrial might was at its peak. What part of this Republican Party are the current slate of Koch shills? The date was the 1950s and the US was a creditor nation... unlike today. It's taken me years to understand why my parents were Republicans in the day. It's obvious now that being an engineer and a legal secretary that they would be smart enough to see through Republican disguises today.

Taken 2009, my then-regular Zenith 12XP, Ilford FP4+ dev D76 (hm... was it?).
17x12cm print on Fomaspeed C312 (Ilford PQ/fomafix). . I'm amazed how little grain this film produces compared to Kodak+X I shoot nowadays. Gotta return to FP4:)
Oh and I would forget. This is Estella-Lizarra, Navarra Spain. We're looking at one of the windows of Residencia Santo-Domingo which is a geriatric care center sort of melted together with remains of and old church. It's really hard to find info on this building just surfing the net, so profit:) [As google didn't photograph the place at all...]
I came back in 2013 and photographed the exact same window, but in infrared so the result is hardly comparable. We'll see next time...
