I was initially in the High Dependancy Unit at ARI, then after three days I was fit enough to be taken down a level to a ward with more beds. The rooms in the lower level had individual TV's for each patient; which was nice.

January 01, 2026 - Happy New Year

My Boss, she reached out to me this morning to extend best wishes for a Happy New Year, and as is typical, we discussed various topics. She and I get along very well. And upon her first starting her position some years ago, we synced pretty quicky, which, in itself, is quite rare. I am her executive assistant. And typically it takes about a month to get each other or not. That does happen. For us, we were already finishing each others sentences in less than a week. She's also my alternate Health Care Proxy.

Regardless of whether I receive my paratransit confirmation letter early next week or not, we've already arranged for her to pick me up Thursday morning, January 8th (one week from today) and drive me to work. And drive me back home that same afternoon. It won't be a completely full-day in the office, which is fine. I've not been to my office since late August 2025, four months ago. And have been working remotely on a special project. Initially, I will go into the office one day a week, for starters. I miss seeing everyone. My work colleagues, various others. Our days are comprised of rhythm's. And I have missed mine.

Back in early June 2025 I began undergoing cycles (treatments) of Chemotherapy for prostate cancer. I underwent a total of six (6) treatments. I was alright going into work following each of my initial treatments. And I would walk to work and home, rain or shine, just like I had done every single day for 6-years. It's less than a 1/2 hour walk. My 4th treatment date was on Thursday, August 7th, and a week following that, it all hit me like a sledgehammer, and I could barely walk. NO ONE had told how side effects were cumulative. MEANING, the 4th cycle was actually cycle #1 thru cycle #4 side effects compounded. It was just a lot. And my Medical Team never mentioned that it may happen. There's something extremely wrong with that non-existent communication.

It's time for me to come back. To my life, my office, everything. And especially to my photography. One can only take so many photos inside of their apartment

Digitally enhanced scan of a first day of issue Prostate Cancer Awareness Stamp issued in 1999. In 1999, medical professionals attended the first national conference on prostate cancer. Stamp encourages tests such as the PSA (prostate specific antigen) test combined with regular physical exams. Design can function as a motivational message in poster form.

There are so many misconceptions about prostate cancer and this along with the fact that men make bad patients and abhor the rectal exam creates what I call the perfect storm. An exam the man doesn't like, the flawed perception that prostate cancer does not kill and that all forms are just alike, combining for an increased likelihood of late diagnosis.

Maggie's Centre, Aberdeen picture by Philip Vile. Had my first radiotherapy session at ARI today after which I was informed that there's a great chance that I will have a pathological fracture of / in my left hip. Then 'WE' went to meet the staff at Maggie's Centre within the grounds of the ARI. Very Nice.

1 in 4 newly diagnosed cancers each year are prostate cancer cases.

The best case scenario is to have one's prostate cancer diagnosed when the disease in not palpable on rectal exam. The next best case is for the disease to be "confined" to the inner portion of the prostate. When prostate cancer invades the capsule it has reached a more aggressive phase and is usually felt on rectal exam as a nodule. Just like any cancer, the earlier you diagnosis it the better and for prostate cancer that means "before" it gets to the capsule.

Since many prostate cancers develop well away from the prostatic urethra (the tube through the middle of your prostate that you "pee" through, having voiding symptoms because of prostate cancer is not a common presentation or symptom. That "I have no problem peeing" is essentially irrelevant in the early diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Because some prostate cancers are slow growing (you have to know your specifics) the health of patient and his longevity becomes a very important factor in the prostate cancer decision. A good decision "tailor made" to you starts here.
