Try our simple, tasty and healthy lunch after an hour of cardio and strength training. Yes, of course it’s vegan. We layered toasted double fiber whole grain bread with traditional hummus, organic avocados and slightly warmed organic tomatoes. The heat within the tomatoes helps release the antioxidant lycopene which in turn protects against prostate cancer in men. We served with a Japanese sweet potato and a medley of sautéed collard greens, spinach, kale, beets, onions and Shiitake mushrooms. So, this meal covers each macronutrient including healthy fats, complex cards and plant-based protein. Eat clean and enjoy!

Just an update from Loma Linda (and a fun shot from last December): Paul's treatment is progressing at pace and he's doing great. Thank you so much for all your prayers and positive thoughts - I'm sure they're helping. Actually, Paul's really in his element here with 85 degree weather - hanging out by the pool after his morning run ;-)

The spirit around here is amazing and, having met men who are "graduating" after their 45 radiation treatments, I can only say that we absolutely made the right decision when we chose Loma Linda for Paul's treatment. All of the guys we've talked to have had no or very few side effects. For those of you interested, we have started a blog instead of using flickr for updates.

As recommended by my Healthcare Proxy, a 42-year veteran NYC Hospitals Registered Nurse

-

Ask the phlebotomist to have your blood drawn at alternating sites to avoid scarring your vessel/vein when drawing the blood from the same. Apply direct pressure for 2 minutes immediately to the puncture site to avoid bruising and cover it with band-aid.

Chemo infusion can be hard on the vessels and should also be administered at alternating arms and different vessels. It’s ideal that the IV access for Chemo should be started from the distal part of your arm (like the hand or above the wrist) and Avoid over a bent of the arm, which can limit your movement and bending the limb can cause “extravasation of Chemo into your tissues”, leaking of Chemo resulting to swelling and pain.

-

Per this recommendation, my infusions were on alternating arms each time. And I've no scarring as a result.

--

The individual's whom work in the Infusion Center are the most professional people. And it's so comforting. And they're all women and they are all awesome.

BIG SHOUT OUT TO YOU GIRLS!!!

I was initially in the High Dependancy Unit at ARI, then after three days I was fit enough to be taken down a level to a ward with more beds. The rooms in the lower level had individual TV's for each patient; which was nice.
