A striking squre tower built in 1861 as a memorial to the 4th Earl of Aberdeen. There are 91 steps to the top parapet, which gives wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. The style of the Prop is severe, even by Scottish Victorian standards, with a curving profile leading to an oversized parapet, so that it resembles a rook on a chessboard.
A simple marble plaque over the entrance says:
"To George Hamilton Gordon, Fourth Earl of Aberdeen, By his attached and Grateful Tenantry. He was born at Edinburgh 28 Jan 1784 and died at London 14 Dec 1860."
Gordon served as Prime Minister during the Crimean War and owned Haddo House, which can be seen from the top of the Prop. The monument was erected by public subscription, after his death, as his tenants were appropriately grateful for improvements carried out by Gordon on the Haddo Estate.
Though the Prop is still owned by Haddo Estate, it is leased to Gordon District Council who helped finance its restoration.
the props are turning at 1700rpm but, having used 1/4000 sec exposure means they only turned for about 2.5 degrees during the exposure. Also, the clouds in the background are from a rather small storm system. Even so, I wouldn't want to have to go through it ;)
Yup, first time out broke the prop and most likely bent the drive shaft. Not a huge deal, but very frustrating..
I have a photo shoot coming up tomorrow and the place Im shooting at needs a little help in the color department. One way to give it some pizzaz is with props. Thanks to my dear sister Nancy who so kindly snipped her flowering trees, I have colorful and natural props!
The California Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of Prop 8, which took away the right for gay and lesbian couples to marry.
In all its chess-piece glory.
Funded by public subscription and built to commemorate George Hamilton-Gordon who, it would appear, was very kind to the tenants of his estate.
We got an anonymous telephone call inviting us out here to meet our fan club and this is all we found! What a blow to the ego. Or, would you believe that we ordered a heavy duty fan for the GT and this is what came ?
We're not saying where this photo was taken because a local magazine is running a contest in which entrants will attempt to guess that very fact. By saying this we do not mean to brag as it's not TIME or ROLLING STONE, but it is a nice one which covers our local islands and flatters us with this attention. Their readers will actually win a prize if they manage to guess where we snapped this one.
OK, here's OUR little contest. Look carefully at the photograph. Yes, click on the picture because Blogspot renders very poor resolution. Here's the question: Is the Mustang the real one or that detailed model which found its way to Ireland? Is the prop real or just a prop prop? Is one real and the other a model ? Are they both real or are both models? What do you think?
Anyone who cares to guess the answers or comment on the absurdity of this proposition is most welcome to post accordingly. There will be no actual prizes, just our undying gratitude for taking the time to write.
The old limbs are so heavy that props have been put under for safety.
Straight from the camera. Even though there are some distracting elements, I decided against any post processing. The light seemed to be just right.
See map and click on hybrid for location. This is a supurb old tree.
Props were available for silent auction; since PNW BJD Expo 2016 was held in the Clearwater Casino & Resort, it seems appropriate that the props are casino-themed
