I'd spotted a shot like this but with a knife and taken a still while on set for TINT Productions. This week someone made a comment about guns being waved around and people with itchy trigger fingers. Yup plenty work pressure at the moment. The image for TINT popped into my head and I realised Friday was K Day. It was this or Kite Flying.
Any youngsters viewing this: I'm using a film prop. When not on set it's in storage. One problem with knives and real guns is that they can be snatched from the owner or turned on them. Ending someone's life and spending yours locked up in a small cell is no way to live. Got a beef with someone? Find another way to settle it without violence. Better still learn to forgive and forget, accept that the other person is human and did something very stupid. Let them live the rest of their life knowing that you know.
Sitting down to edit and post this I started watching "Right At Your Door", only because it was on in the living room. I had no idea what it was about having missed the first few minutes but soon started to see parallels with Drummy's awesome ENDWORLD photo story and Googled for it. "A 2006 American thriller film about multiple dirty bombs detonated in Los Angeles." Odd timing. I'd just this evening finished a couple of days worth of standing-room-only updates to Chapter II of my UK tribute. Now I'm going to have to work out which of the many parts to shoot and which letter to file it under.
Yay! A shot not taken on the iPhone for a change :)
If you look at the "Prop Calculator" photo you will notice that this is the happy medium between the Coastal Cruiser and the Offshore Cruiser.
A year and a half of internet searching wasn't able to find this prop: 1" shaft, 14" diameter and 8 pitch. Then just out of the blue this popped within reach in a casual conversation and I couldn't pass it by. These things happen for a reason. And in this case it came with a savings of $400.00.
A no brainer. :)
Some prop/deco pieces I got from Japan. The 1p piece is for size comparison.
The items in the top left are actually erasers, but are really hard so I thought they were perfect.
That is, apart from the pocky stick I made at 4am...

[There are some duplicates of the main pieces]
Iraqi Soldiers and a British Soldier assigned to the Air Reaction Force (ARF) from the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (DWR), brace against the prop wash of an approaching helicopter at a landing zone site at the Basra Airport, in Basra, Iraq. Department of Defense photo by Army Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Crawford.
My prop is back from its adjustment. They've actually cut a dish shape out rather than a concentric recess (which is what I asked for) but this is essentially the same as the original BMW design so should work fine.

Blaenavon Big Pit 2012 Series.
Todays posting in this series are all about Pit props. Hundreds of them still lie on the site as if waiting for the next phase in the life of "Big Pit" These would be taken in the wagons to the saw mill and cut to the required size before being taken underground to the coal face.

One of several Starchild dolls made for the movie. The Starchild crew made dolls for specific shots in the movie. For example, the doll used in the shot of the Starchild with the moving eyes had an entire eye mechanism hidden inside the rubber foam. The dolls have all since deteriorated badly. The facial features of the dolls were shaped to resemble Dave Bowman's features (played again by Keir Dullea).
