from my "Summer's End" series. As the water level drops from the Great Sacandaga Lake, actually a reservoir, many hidden treasures appear from the shallow depths of this beautiful man made lake. Treasures such as this $300 prop embed themselves as testimony to just how treacherous this lake can be. Take notice that the prop is still attached to the shaft, further enhancing this boaters summer's experience. In the 518 area, with Pentax gear.

I've felt a bit "slack" with a lot of my photos over the last few weeks; I think they've been interesting in terms of concepts, but they haven't really been challenging in any way. And the entire reason I started this 365 was to push myself and get better at Photoshop/photography. The only way to grow is to challenge yourself!
Inspired by a couple of Phlearn Pro Tutorials I watched, I decided to put a bit more effort into today's photo and created a composite out of many many different images. It took about 7 hours in total and I learned a heck of a lot in the process :)

Doug Harrop Photography • April 11, 1989
Mr. Harrop was fond of including elements in his photos that made a particular railroad unique. This capture of a piggyback train in the Mojave Desert at Goffs, California is a good example.
Doug included numerous Santa Fe elements here including a milepost (609), a station sign, and a steam-era water tower.
This Beech has at some point taken a tumble. But it hasnt let it stop him from growing anyways! Another 6-8 weeks and this woods will be my favourite place with the Autumn colours!
This colourful old boat prop scene was a good example of how photography is good for the heart and mind.
Photography has helped me see things that make me happy, things that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't into photography. Things that are not necessarily obviously interesting.
Aka finding beauty in the mundane! 😊
With the Susquehanna River levels low enough for the Dock Street Dam to be visible, I pulled in to Shipoke to grab a morning shot with dam and the former Reading Railroad Lurgan Branch arch bridge together. I saw this gentleman fishing in the boil of the dam and thought he would be a good prop, so I introduced myself and asked him if he would ignore me while I photographed him, the dam and a train on the bridge. His wide smile and fast nodding told me he didn't speak English. I explained again with hand motions and sound effects, he nodded slower in agreement and I waited for the train to appear. *Click* goes the shutter on this frame, the man looks at me and the camera and then scampers up the riverfront away from me with an apologetic hand motion, as if he thought he was blocking my shot. I have no idea what the foliage is around this rustic-looking entrance, but it needed propping up (and it looks as though it may yet fall)
Greystones Camera Club's macro workshop was based around 'food' & before we eat the props some interesting shots were produced - this is one of my favs!
