A close-up view of the stern of the battleship USS MISSOURI (BB-63), showing the ship's propellers and rudders. The five-bladed inboard and four-bladed outboard propellers convert 212,000 shaft horsepower into thrust while the rudders, located slight inboard of the center propellers, take advantage of the flow of water through the tunnel and the wash from the propellers. The MISSOURI is in dry dock for routine overhaul at Long Beach Naval Shipyard.

My friend got his new propeller today. It is now mounted and works perfect.

Do not remember if he said "thank you", he normally does not! :-)

He is happy and his boat runs well.

What are these images?

These images are screen shots from the iPhone app that I've been developing over the last 6 months or so. Since this project is the primary reason that my photography has been scarce recently, it seems appropriate to post the screen shots here so that folks can see what I've been up to. My other motivation, of course, is to shamelessly plug my app in hopes of stimulating sales. If you like the samples shown here, please check it out at its dedicated web site, or search for Spinnerz (with a 'z') on the iTunes App Store.

About This Image

In this image, the clouds and the airplane fuselage are the only real photos, although the fuselage is heavily Photoshopped. The runway and the land in the background are all synthetic, as are the chrome nose cone and the propeller blade. The number of blades on the propeller matches the number of answers defined by the user. In this case, there are just six numbers in the "Pick a Number" spinner. Setting it to 20 answers makes the propeller look more like a turbofan.

After touring the USS Blueblack, we passed this large propeller outside the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
