From a distance of 250 meters*, this Snowy Owl descended from its high perch to glide into the wind inches above an open field and graciously landed next to the remnants of a patch of snow, 70 meters from where I was standing under a cloudy sky just before sunset. Although it momentarily looked in my direction on a few occasions, it generally set its gaze away from my location, suggesting the bird was not stressed by my presence. I could have closed the gap with the bird to get sharper shots. However, I resisted the impulse to give the bird the space it needed. Instead, I did not linger and promptly left the site knowing that my mid-range telephoto lens and high-resolution camera along with post-production editing tools would nonetheless turn out interesting flight shots and compositions. Looking at the result, I believe I was right in balancing my interaction with this angel visiting from the arctic circle. Southeastern Ontario, Canada.

After a short Friday and no power swaps to be had I promptly made my way from Ludington to Stronach to take a night photo angle off my list. With the only operable orange GP's on the MQT the northbound Manistee Meteor crew rolls across the Little Manistee River bridge in Stronach MI. This was not the angle I was planning to do, standing on a very wet marshy landing in the river, but it is what I had to do to cute out the ridiculous amounts of brush that has over taken the banks since the last time I shot here.

Did you know that sharks don’t have bones? Their skeleton’s are made of cartilage. (Sorry - I didn’t have time to look for something less well-known!)
I got a bit too ambitious with this one. I couldn’t find a good reference photo that showed a shark in the pose I wanted, and AI refused to create what I was looking for, so I pretty much had to try and visualize the shark anatomy and fall of shadow on my own. My attitude in these cases is pretty much ‘Oh, what the heck!” So I just did my best with what I could see in my head and lived with what I got.

Did you know the cardboard palm, a cycad (not a true palm) that dates back over 250 million years, is named for its thick, stiff, slightly fuzzy leaves that feel as if they’re made of cardboard? Despite being one of the most popular cycads on Earth, it is highly toxic due to the cycasin present in all parts of the plant, which can cause liver or kidney failure and even paralysis in humans — and there is no known antidote for this poison.
This was a trial experiment of monoprinting using the method of applying a thin layer of dishwashing soap to the plexiglass before painting, letting the watercolor dry, then pressing the a damp sheet to the painting. I think I like this method better than fooling with the glycerin, though it’s harder to get as much color on the print. More experiments must be done!
