This is a photograph from the 9th annual running of the Meath Spring Half Marathon which was promoted and hosted by Bohermeen Athletic Club at Bohermeen, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 8th of March 2020 at 11:00. The half marathon consists of a 11KM and 10KM repeated loop around the roads of Bohermeen and Oristown. The finish line is on the running track within Bohermeen Community Center. The course is a fast fair course with a few small hills. In 2016 the original course was 'reversed' which just meant that the traditional course changed to accomodate the large number of participants and the narrow country roads on which both the race participants and race traffic must both share before, during and after the race. Most runners agreed that this made the course much faster as a result. This is the second year of the half marathon only event. The major change for 2019 seen the half marathon become the only race of the day. Previously, there was a 10KM race option also presented. This year well over 1000 participants finished the race which sold out many weeks in advance. The race also includes the 47th Rennicks Cup (Men's overall team) and the 44th Father Delany Cup (Women's overall team).
The weather was a slight improvement on the very wintry weather of 2019. A very strong westerly wind contined and this was in the face of runners on the open stretches on the Navan Athboy road and on the additional section on Loop 1. There was also a very heavy hail shower at around midday.
Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful. Having now organised the event for six years running it is certain that the event will continue to grow and expand become one of the mainstays on the Irish athletic club road racing calendar for many years to come.
This race takes place about one month after the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race in Trim (just down the road from Bohermeen). Indeed these races truly kick-start the whole road racing season of fixtures amongst the clubs in Meath who are now famous for the quality and standard of the road races staged and organised.

This is a photograph from the finish of the 2nd Annual Kilcock Athletic Club 10 Mile Road Race which was held in the town of Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 18th August 2019 at 10:10. The race is promoted by the St. Coca's AC club and this is a very successful second installment of the race. With over 600 participants there is a great deal of work and organisation required to stage a long distance race in the area between the Kilcock, Maynooth and Clane catchment areas. St. Coca's AC have established a fine reputation from their annual 5KM road race held every June. They are also well known for the lavish and plentiful after-race refreshment spreads they provide!
The race has grown and expanded on its first installment where there were 500 finishers. This year seen just over 600 finishers of the race.
The weather was a mixed affair. Temperatures were warm and pleasant but there was a very strong westerly breeze. This has both a headwind and tailwind effect in the race, most notably making the Canal section at the end a little more difficult. There was a light shower of rain during the race.
The race starts near Scoil Ui Riada on the Kilcock to Clane road. The route heads south-easterly along the first 1.5 miles of the Kilcock AC 5KM road race route. The route turns right here at Laragh and heads towards the townlands of Clonfirth, Baltracey and Balraheen. The half way point is at the well known Ladychapel Church crossroads between the L1010 and the Maynooth-Rathcoffey R408 road. Proceeding northwards toward Maynooth the race takes a left at the Crinstown Cross Roads to mark the turn back westerly towards Kilcock. Just after mile 7 the race crosses the M4/M6 Kilcock/Maynooth motorway bypass. This crossing and the next canal bridge are the only real 'hills' on the course. The last two miles turn westward toward Kilcock along the Royal Canal Greenway. The race enters the Greenway at Jackson's Bridge and proceeds along the bank of the Canal under Bailey's Bridge, across Chamber's Bridge and finishing at The Harbour in Kilcock opposite Lidl and the former Dermot Kelly's Garage. Water stations are provided at mile 3 and mile 6. Overall, the route is fast, fair and very suitable to fast road racing and competitive times.

One of the interesting features of the race is the start time of 10:10 in the morning. The significance of the 10s are as follows: it is a 10 mile race, it is 10 weeks exactly from the Dublin City Marathon in October 2019, and the course is a great opportunity for runners of all abilities to gain that illusive PB or season best.

The weather will be remembered for a long time after this year. Just about 15 minutes before the start there was a very heavy hailstorm which seemed to make the winds even stronger. Suddenly the skies cleared and the sun appeared. However, a very strong westerly wind contined and this was in the face of runners on the open stretches on the Navan Athboy road and on the additional section on Loop 1.

Algonquin Park is a truly a beautiful place to visit but unfortunately this year our trip turned tragic. We lost a dear friend and family member the morning we were paddling out. Dr. Michael Freeman, a renowned cardiologist, will be greatly missed not only by his beautiful family and friends but to the world of heart medicine and research. Michael we all look forward to meeting up with you again in paradise.

12.12.2018 High-Level Event with the High Commissioner for Human Rights: Promoting rights-based climate action for people and planet
Governor Charlie Baker signed S2631, An Act to promote and enhance civic engagement. Governor Baker was joined by Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, Education Secretary James Peyser, Senate President Emerita Harriette Chandler, JFK Library Executive Director Steven M. Rothstein, EMK Institute President Mary Grant, Media Literacy Now President Erin McNeill, Generation Citizen Massachusetts Executive Director Arielle Jennings, representatives from UTEC Lowell & Teens Leading the Way, local students and members of the Legislature.

Feb 2014: As part of the GREAT Campaign Global Bus Tour to promote Britain as a world-class destination for trade, investment, tourism and education, the bus visited Singapore from February 6 – 28. It was featured prominently in various places of interests in Singapore such as Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa, Little India Arcade, Kampong Glam as well as Chinatown. Beyond attractions, the bus also visited several local charities and engaged with the local community.
The GREAT bus made history when it was photographed alongside the GREAT Clipper Yacht at One Degree Fifteen Marina at Sentosa Cove, where it welcomed the arrival of the GREAT Clipper crew from their 2013/2014 Round-The-World-Yacht Race. It was the first time that both GREAT-branded vehicles were in the same country at the same time.
The bus also helped to promote UK education for international students at the ‘World Class Study in London’ tour exhibition held at Conrad Centennial Singapore hotel, where Mr Stephen Hammond, UK’s minister for transport, gave an opening speech. It was served as a great talking point for guests at a business networking reception hosted at Eden Hall to celebrate the arrival of the Clipper Yachts into Singapore.
Other interesting activities include hosting a ‘pop-up’ art exhibition at the Gillman Barracks, an up and coming centre in Asia for contemporary art. Icon Gallery fitted the bus with artwork from various British artists . The exhibition drew a good turnout and saw many guests exploring British art on the bus. British Airways also organised a contest on the GREAT bus to launch their A380 flight route from Singapore to the UK.

This is a photograph from the 4th "Mullingar 10" - a 10 mile road race and fun run which was held in Dalystown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday July 28th 2018 at 11:00. Dalystown is a rural parish situated about 6 miles south of Mullingar. The race was organised by Mullingar Harriers who promoted the event. There was almost 400 participants in the event. The race follows a simple 'figure of 8' route. The race starts from Dalystown National School and heads north briefly to Dalystown cross-roads where there is a left turn which brings runners along the L1122 road. The only real cross-over of the route is at the 2.5 and 7.5 mile mark. The race completes a loop between 2.5 and the 7.5 mile mark which brings runners into the locality of Ballinagore. The final 2.5 miles of the race brings runners back through Cloneheigue and the final 1.5 miles of the race is along straight road heading north back to Dalystown and the finish outside of Wallace's Pub.
The course was a mixture of long straight level sections of road with some short rolling hills which made for a challenging but overall fair course. The race took place is warm temperatures with a strong southerly breeze in the face of runners for stretches along the route. However some beautiful mature hedgerows along the mostly rural roads provided shade and shelter from the sun for runners.
This was the first year of the event and going on today's event it will become an annual fixture on the calendar. Clubs from all over the North Leinster region and beyond were represented today. I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Recognizing that we live in a digital age, Sarra Laamarti (TL, 2015) was inspired to enter the field of STEM. She is now a leader in engineering and technology in Tangier, Morocco. She is currently working as an Organizer for Google Developers Group chapter (GDG) to promote the role of technology in the community. The Google Developers Group (GDG) is an international initiative by Google that aims to strengthen youth skills in the tech field. Sarra is particularly passionate about women’s empowerment in STEM. She has organized several events to promote female techmakers including with DevFest .
Inspired by her MEPI experience, which boosted her professional growth and civic engagement, Sarra joined the GDG Tangier initiative in 2019. Having made a great life with her profession as an engineer, she joined the initiative to mentor youth on how to improve STEM skills which lead to job opportunities and the different opportunities available in the field. Through this initiative, she advocates for community growth and prosperity through professional development opportunities. She sets up workshops, helps connect people to internships, and provides people with instructive advice. With the lack of mentorship resources provided to women interested in STEM, Sarra concentrates many of her efforts with GDG on women.
Sarra wishes to continue helping the community in the next five to ten years by spreading knowledge, building a digital community, and empowering individuals in her community in Tangier and across Morocco.
Sarra is very appreciative of being a part of the MEPI Alumni network with a vast range of skill sets and backgrounds, she feels fortunate to be able to connect with other MEPI alumni professionals and learn from their insights and expertise. She reflects, “The network has been tremendously empowering throughout the journey.”
Ft Buchanan, PR - On Saturday December 14, 2013 the Army Reserve of the United States in Puerto Rico, witnessed one of the most significant events in their tradition, the change of command ceremony. It is an event that has been celebrated for hundreds of years and continues to be important as it marks the continuation of leadership and gives the formal relay from one Commanding Officer to another Commander. The protagonists were two Puerto Ricans with his perseverance and performance managed to overcome, reach and become leaders of the troops in Puerto Rico.
"Brigadier General Fernando Fernandez leaves a legacy at the First Mission Support Command (1st MSC) of the US Army Reserve Puerto Rico on the duty to always lead by example. No wonder this is one of his favorite phrases and it has not only inherited but lives it every day."said Lieutenant General Jeffrey W. Talley who was the guest of honor and responsible to officially release and deliver the responsibilities of command.
After more than 30 years of military career General Fernández, begin his life as retired from the armed forces.
"It was an incredible honor to serve with the Soldiers of this command, being the Commander for the past four years has been the adventure and the best four years of my life. I leave you in good hands, "said General Fernández
Meanwhile the newly promoted Brigadier General Jose R. Burgos, who assumed the responsibility on this day, it proved very proud to have the opportunity to direct the Command
"Today, another son from La Isla del Encanto is promoted to Brigadier General in the best Army in the world; I am now a real example of the many opportunities our great nation offers." said General Burgos.
The new General said that we must have perseverance and discipline to achieve our goals. He talked about his humble life in Cantera’s Subdivision, and now he feels pride in taking charge.
"With this achievement I will hopefully serve as an example to others and continue to forge better leaders and citizens for our communities, our country and our nation," he said.

Offering appreciation to God, family and Lieutenant General Talley for having entrusted with such an important position, BG Burgos said goodbye, while the 1st MSC extended a warm welcome to him, his wife Haydee and family.
Newly promoted Master Sgt. Murphy noses an apple from Brig. Gen. James Doty, acting senior commander, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, at Turkey Creek Ranch Monday. Eight other mounted color guard horses were promoted in the annual ceremony.
The South Carolina National Guard promoted Timothy J. Sheriff, deputy commanding general of the 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, to the rank of U.S. Army Brigadier General in a ceremony at the National Guard Armory in Seneca, S.C., Oct. 21. Brig. Gen. Sheriff was sworn in at the ceremony by Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston, Jr., the Adjutant General for South Carolina, and was pinned by his wife Teresa. “September the 18th of 1980, I enlisted in this very armory,” said Sheriff. “I felt it fitting that 35 years later, that we get together here in Seneca South Carolina for this promotion ceremony.” (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Capt.
