So, I haven't uploaded anything for 2 weeks. And I actually go to flickr and look at other people's pages, and then I look at my page (yes I look at my own photos), and I get disappointed "Oh yeah, I haven't uploaded anything new lately." I need to take more pictures.
So here is this. It's not anything super special... This is one of the few pictures I took the other day of some friends because we're creating a movie with government terms in it based on a TV show, and in our case, it is "Glee."
I've actually only seen 2 episodes before, and was a little confused as to how to act as Rachel, but I hope it all turns out good. The final project is due next Thursday, but I got a start on Glee-ifying the pictures.
I've been so lazy lately. Not only in picture taking, but on my homework and stuff... I'm ready for next semester, and then the end of the year and graduation already.
What do you think? Should the letters be a little smaller?

With every year of this transformation, I could feel myself changing. A little spiritual growth would lead into emotional health. Emotional health aided my mentality. My mentality allowed for the desire to move actively. Then it would continue to cycle. Getting in shape physically lead to more discipline and drive in other aspects of life. The more I accomplished in other areas, the more possibility opened up before me. Getting into Crossfit inspired me to begin a massage specialty with athletes. I wanted to be able to bring balance into my community. They all knew how to workout, but I wanted to help everyone take care of themselves outside of the gym. As a gym owner, Tim was looking to offer this sort of balance to his members and asked me if I knew any yoga instructors that might be interested in teaching at his gym. My response was I definitely know someone, and signed up for my 200 hour yoga teacher training.
One of my final elective weekends for my yoga teacher training was an energy based course with Ray Crist at the beginning of 2016. Being a huge fan of energy work, I was particularly excited for this workshop. I made sure to bring some of my most special quartz crystals with me to help magnify the energy. I got to the class a little early so I could set up my space, crystals displayed at the front of my mat. Other students were filing in and getting set up. It was a full classroom. Then a beautiful woman I had never met before came right up to me. “Hello,” she said. “I’m sorry if this is weird but I was just drawn to come over and talk to you. Are those your crystals?” This was an amazing compliment to receive right from the start. I introduced myself, explained my crystals, and shared that I am an energy worker and a massage therapist. She introduced herself as Kendra, and she was in the 300 hour yoga teacher program at the same school. She was also very excited to hear that I was a massage therapist and asked if I’d be willing to come to her house to massage her and her husband. It just so happened this was during the time I was preparing to become self-employed and was taking on new clientele. We exchanged information and scheduled appointments for later in the month.
Kendra & Gustavo were instant favorites of mine, and we became close. They are worldly, educated, and fascinating. Kendra’s energy easily pairs with my own, and we share a lot of the same interests and values. Gustavo is from Brazil and has such an interesting perspective on most matters, and has always really made me think.
Early on in our relationship, Kendra mentioned she had participated in a workshop called the Landmark Forum. She said it had really resonated with her and was helping her view her life in a different way. She said it was something I would probably really find interesting, but left it at that. About a year later Gustavo took the same course and he was blown away. When I saw him for the first time after he had done it, he couldn’t stop telling me about it. He said, “I can’t believe Kendra has lived with me for an entire year without me speaking this language with her!” From that moment on, every time I saw Gustavo he would talk about Landmark, how much it had impacted his life, and how much he thought I’d like it. I wasn’t opposed to it, but it also wasn’t at the top of my financial priorities. I had gone self-employed and was taking other certification courses to enhance my career. I kept it in mind as an option.
One Thursday when I was meeting with them, Gustavo was asking about how my little sister was doing. He perked up when I mentioned she was 13 and said, “So Landmark only hosts one teen class each year, you have to be at least 13 to take it, and the one this year starts tomorrow!” I was caught off guard. I was leaving for Europe the next week and didn’t know how I’d be able to manage bringing her back and forth between Carver and Quincy 3 days in a row with my client schedule, never mind pay for it. He said, “If money and driving weren’t a problem, do you think she would do it?” I couldn’t answer that question for her, and said it was up to her and my mother. In order for a teen to take the course, a parent or guardian needs to also take the course. I called my sister and spoke with my mom, telling them that my amazing friends had offered to put Rhiannon in this incredible program and cover the cost and rides. They also signed me up and covered that, thinking I’d count as a guardian. Later that day Kendra called me saying that I unfortunately didn’t count as a legal guardian, and also offered to sign my mom up as well. I was so taken aback by their generosity, and their care for me and my family.
My sister took the teen course in September 2017, and I took the adult Forum in January 2018. I went in with an open mind and happier than I had ever been. I came prepared with all my healthy meals, tools for mobilizing while I sat for the three 13 hour days, and a desire to learn more about whatever it was they were going to teach me. I wasn’t expecting things to come up for me the way they did and I got very uncomfortable. So uncomfortable that I called Kendra the second day boiling over. She was kind and empathetic to what I was saying. She told me to hang in there, and that she didn’t know for certain but was thinking something with my father might be trying to surface. I knew she was right and that something was there for me to discover, so I stuck with it. Having Kendra & Gustavo in my life to continue instilling what I learned that weekend was invaluable. I was able to work through what came up for me. A few months later, I reconnected with my father whom I hadn’t spoken with for almost 14 years. Then with a little more guidance and self reflection, I was able to help my mom get to the Forum in March 2019. I was being braver than I ever thought I could be. By this point in my life, I would often say there is no ceiling to the potential for happiness and knowledge, but this experience lead me to believe I wasn’t standing in a building with no ceiling. I was finally climbing my mountain.
I view Kendra & Gustavo as dear friends and mentors. I thrive off of being around them, and always learn something new. Kendra helping me work through tough spots I struggle to figure out, and Gustavo helping me bring tough spots to the surface I didn’t know were there. My life has dramatically improved and my quality of spirit enhanced just in the few years of knowing them. They are role models for relationships, humanitarianism, communication, and self-responsibility. I will forever be grateful for their generosity and wisdom.

The last time I visited the Eden Project was not long after it first opened in 2000. It has today grown into a wonderful attraction consisting of the large rainforest dome and the smaller meditteranean dome. Lots for children to do and lots of gorgeous, mature planting.
I usually don't upload camera pix - but college football is definitely a sign of fall. Our local college Old Dominion University (ODU) - has had a football team for 5 years and just joined Conference USA. They have had sold out games for all 5 years. This was their first nationally televised conference game - very exciting - however - we lost - one of the few losses they have had in the past 5 years.
Been airbrushing today and it goes so much better then expected now the trouble are over with this airbrush. I really enjoy doing it.

Six local up and coming artists have submitted art pieces to Yahoo! for a soon-to-be-released limited edition art book “Purplescape.” It will showcase the perspectives of 20 graphic artists from Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. These graphic artists were chosen based on the works they submitted in response to Yahoo!’s call for their individual renditions of a ‘purple world.’

This gallery, which looked down into the state apartments, round right round the building. It is hollowed out of the thickness of the wall and therefore greatly reduces the weight of the upper stories. At this height the walls do not need the massive strength of lower walls as they are out of reach of enemy battering rams.
The gallery had a number of uses and could be partitioned off to make extra rooms for guests, probably servants and less favoured visitors. When the great Hall was in use, guests could gather here to chat and look down on the festivities. This was also a good position for groups of minstrels to provide music for those below. Guidepost.
Rochester Castle.

Rochester Castle ( [show location on an interactive map] 51°23′22″N 0°30′05″E / 51.38944°N 0.50139°E / 51.38944; 0.50139) stands on the east bank of the River Medway, in Rochester, Kent. It is one of the best-preserved castles of its kind in the UK. There has been a fortification on this site since Roman times (c AD43), though it is the keep of 1127 and the Norman castle which can be seen today. With the invention of gunpowder other types of defence became more appropriate, and the military centre of the Medway Towns moved to Chatham.
History
The Romans under Aulus Plautius built a fort on the site of the present castle to guard the important river crossing, where they constructed a bridge. There is evidence of an earth rampart later replaced by a stone wall. The timber piles of the Roman bridge were rediscovered during the construction of the present road bridge.This is also a well known spa nowadays but when it was first built it was a massive kitchen.
The Norman period commenced with the victory of William of Normandy at Hastings. He appointed his half brother Odo, Bishop of Bayeux, as Earl of Kent. Rochester's first Norman castle was probably of the motte and bailey type – a wooden tower and with palisades – on Boley Hill. This was the castle that was besieged by William Rufus during the Rebellion of 1088.
As a result of this siege, Bishop Gundulf was persuaded to build a stone castle with a curtain wall. It is not known how much, if any, of the surviving keep is his. Gundulf was a talented architect: he had started the building work on Rochester's Norman Cathedral in 1080, and was also responsible for the White Tower of the Tower of London.
Henry I granted the custody of the castle to the Archbishop of Canterbury, William de Corbeil. Corbeil started to build the great stone keep in 1127, much of which survives today. It is the tallest in England and has dominated the city and river crossing for 800 years.
The siege of 1215
In 1206, King John spent £115 on repairs to the castle and moat. He even preemptively held it during the year of the negotiations leading up to Magna Carta, but its terms forced him to hand it back into the custody of Stephen Langton, archbishop of Canterbury, in May 1215. The rebel barons then sent troops under William d'Aubigny to the castle, to whom its constable Reginald de Cornhill opened the castle's gates. During October, marching from Dover to London, John then found Rochester in his way and on 11 October began besieging it in person.
The rebels were expecting reinforcements from London but on hearing of the size of King John's army they turned back at Dartford. Robert Fitzwalter rode out to stop the king, fighting his way onto the bridge but eventually being beaten back into the castle. He also sacked the cathedral, took anything of value and stabled his horses in it, all as a slight to Langton. Orders were then sent to the men of Canterbury saying, "We order you, just as you love us, and as soon as you see this letter, to make by day and night, all the pickaxes that you can. Every blacksmith in your city should stop all other work in order to make them and you should send them to us at Rochester with all speed". Five siege engines were then erected and work carried out to undermine the curtain wall. By one of these means the king's forces entered and held the bailey in early November, and began attempting the same tactics against the keep, including undermining the south-east tower. The mine-roof was supported by wooden props, which were then set alight using pig-fat, on 25 November 1215 John had sent a writ to the justiciars saying "Send to us with all speed by day and night, fifty of the fattest pigs of the sort least good for eating so that we may bring fire beneath the castle" [2], causing the south-east tower of the keep to collapse. The rebels withdrew behind the keep's cross-wall but still managed to hold out. A few were allowed to leave the castle but on John's orders had their hands and feet lopped off as an example.
Winter was now setting in, and the castle was only taken (on 30 November) by starvation and not by force. John set up a memorial to the pigs and a gallows with the intention of hanging the whole garrison, but one of his captains (Savari de Mauleon) persuaded him not to hang the rebels since hanging those who had surrendered would set a precedent if John ever surrendered - only one man was actually hanged (a young bowman who had previously been in John's service). The remainder of the rebel barons were taken away and imprisoned at various royal-held castles, such as Corfe Castle. Of the siege - against only 100 rebels, and costing over a thousand pounds a day - the Barnwell chronicler wrote "No one alive can remember a siege so fiercely pressed and so manfully resisted" and that, after it, "There were few who would put their trust in castles".
King John died on October 19, 1216, so it fell to Henry III to repair the castle. He spent over a £1000 on rebuilding, with new stables and gateways, and a further ditch to strengthen the defences. A new chapel was built next to the Royal apartments in the bailey. The most notable surviving feature is the new south-east tower, which was rebuilt according to the latest defensive design and is three-quarters round better to deflect missile attack and work against attempts at undermining.
The siege of 1264
In 1264, the dissident barons, led by Simon de Montfort, attacked Rochester. They crossed the Medway under cover of the smoke from a fire-ship, and took the city. Like John before them, they quickly gained control of the castle bailey and then attempted to undermine the keep. This time the siege was not successful, being relieved after only a week by Henry himself. However, the rebels did burn down many of the buildings, including the Royal chambers. Repairs were not carried out until 1367, under Edward III, by which time much of the stone had been removed for other use.
The 15th century Wars of the Roses were not fought in Kent, so the castle was spared. It was briefly taken by Wyatt's men during his futile uprising of 1554. But with the invention of gunpowder and introduction of cannon, this form of castle was no longer so secure. It became expensive to maintain so fell into disrepair.
Later military history
Rochester remained of strategic importance, and the neighbouring Chatham Naval Dockyard grew in importance. In the Napoleonic wars, the dockyard was protected by a circle of Palmerston Forts, including Fort Luton, Fort Borstal, Fort Pitt, Fort Clarence, and Fort Amherst. HMS Victory, Admiral Nelson's flagship was built in Chatham (though now "exiled" in Portsmouth). During the twentieth century wars, Chatham has provided a home for the Royal Engineers, and Rochester built aircraft such as the Sunderland. The Dockyard also built and serviced nuclear submarines.
Today
The castle is now maintained by English Heritage and is open to the public. The wooden flooring in the centre of the keep is gone, but many of the passageways and spiral staircases within the thickness of the walls are still usable. Decorative chevrons ornament the archways and the water well in the cross-wall is clearly visible. Visitors with a head for heights can climb 111 ft (34 m) to the battlements and enjoy a commanding view of the river and surrounding area.
Since Victorian times, Rochester Castle Gardens have been an important leisure area for Rochester. They were a popular promenade, they have hosted a bandstand, and have become a centre point for festivals and summer concerts.

The impressive Norman castle at Rochester had a humbling effect upon Dickens, reminding him perhaps of his own mortality. In Household Words he wrote: 'I surveyed the massive ruin from the Bridge, and thought what a brief little practical joke I seemed to be, in comparison with the solidarity, stature, strength and length of life.' In Dickens' time the castle looked very different. Houses and workshops filled much of the moat by the cathedral, the keep and towers were festooned with ivy and the waters of the River Medway lapped the base of the walls. - Guidemap

I enjoyed watching the short lived "Starcom in the late 80's early 90's. I've wanted to build something along the lines of the Starmax Bomber for a while, and here are the results.
The front cockpit and pilot seating position isn't too good, due to the landing strut being right below.Overall this has a sleeker look than the cartoon and is missing a few of the features of the real one, but it was a fun build.
My bike is assembled at last. Took it out for a long ride. What fun.

The Burgtheater at Dr.-Karl -Lueger-Ring (from now on, Universitätsring) in Vienna is an Austrian Federal Theatre. It is one of the most important stages in Europe and after the Comédie-Française, the second oldest European one, as well as the greatest German speaking theater. The original 'old' Burgtheater at Saint Michael's square was utilized from 1748 until the opening of the new building at the ring in October, 1888. The new house in 1945 burnt down completely as a result of bomb attacks, until the re-opening on 14 October 1955 was the Ronacher serving as temporary quarters. The Burgtheater is considered as Austrian National Theatre.
Throughout its history, the theater was bearing different names, first Imperial-Royal Theater next to the Castle, then to 1918 Imperial-Royal Court-Burgtheater and since then Burgtheater (Castle Theater). Especially in Vienna it is often referred to as "The Castle (Die Burg)", the ensemble members are known as Castle actors (Burgschauspieler).

The 'old' Burgtheater at St. Michael's Square
The original castle theater was set up in a ball house that was built in the lower pleasure gardens of the Imperial Palace of the Roman-German King and later Emperor Ferdinand I in 1540, after the old house 1525 fell victim to a fire. Until the beginning of the 18th Century was played there the Jeu de Paume, a precursor of tennis. On 14 March 1741 finally gave the Empress Maria Theresa, ruling after the death of her father, which had ordered a general suspension of the theater, the "Entrepreneur of the Royal Court Opera" and lessees of 1708 built theater at Kärntnertor (Carinthian gate), Joseph Karl Selliers, permission to change the ballroom into a theater. Simultaneously, a new ball house was built in the immediate vicinity, which todays Ballhausplatz is bearing its name.
In 1748, the newly designed "theater next to the castle" was opened. 1756 major renovations were made, inter alia, a new rear wall was built. The Auditorium of the Old Burgtheater was still a solid timber construction and took about 1200 guests. The imperial family could reach her royal box directly from the imperial quarters, the Burgtheater structurally being connected with them. At the old venue at Saint Michael's place were, inter alia, several works of Christoph Willibald Gluck, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as Franz Grillparzer premiered .
On 17 February 1776, Emperor Joseph II declared the theater to the German National Theatre (Teutsches Nationaltheater). It was he who ordered by decree that the stage plays should not deal with sad events for not bring the Imperial audience in a bad mood. Many theater plays for this reason had to be changed and provided with a Vienna Final (Happy End), such as Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet. From 1794 on, the theater was bearing the name K.K. Court Theatre next to the castle.
1798 the poet August von Kotzebue was appointed as head of the Burgtheater, but after discussions with the actors he left Vienna in 1799. Under German director Joseph Schreyvogel was introduced German instead of French and Italian as a new stage language.
On 12 October 1888 took place the last performance in the old house. The Burgtheater ensemble moved to the new venue at the Ring. The Old Burgtheater had to give way to the completion of Saint Michael's tract of Hofburg. The plans to this end had been drawn almost 200 years before the demolition of the old Burgtheater by Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach.
The "new" K.K. Court Theatre (as the inscription reads today) at the Ring opposite the Town Hall, opened on 14 October 1888 with Grillparzer's Esther and Schiller's Wallenstein's Camp, was designed in neo-Baroque style by Gottfried Semper (plan) and Karl Freiherr von Hasenauer (facade), who had already designed the Imperial Forum in Vienna together. Construction began on 16 December 1874 and followed through 14 years, in which the architects quarreled. Already in 1876 Semper withdrew due to health problems to Rome and had Hasenauer realized his ideas alone, who in the dispute of the architects stood up for a mainly splendid designed grand lodges theater.
However, created the famous Viennese painter Gustav Klimt and his brother Ernst Klimt and Franz Matsch 1886-1888 the ceiling paintings in the two stairwells of the new theater. The three took over this task after similar commissioned work in the city theaters of Fiume and Karlovy Vary and in the Bucharest National Theatre. In the grand staircase on the side facing the café Landtmann of the Burgtheater (Archduke stairs) reproduced Gustav Klimt the artists of the ancient theater in Taormina on Sicily, in the stairwell on the "People's Garden"-side (Kaiserstiege, because it was reserved for the emperor) the London Globe Theatre and the final scene from William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Above the entrance to the auditorium is Molière's The Imaginary Invalid to discover. In the background the painter immortalized himself in the company of his two colleagues. Emperor Franz Joseph I liked the ceiling paintings so much that he gave the members of the company of artists of Klimt the Golden Cross of Merit.
The new building resembles externally the Dresden Semper Opera, but even more, due to the for the two theaters absolutely atypical cross wing with the ceremonial stairs, Semper's Munich project from the years 1865/1866 for a Richard Wagner Festspielhaus above the Isar. Above the middle section there is a loggia, which is framed by two side wings, and is divided from a stage house with a gable roof and auditorium with a tent roof. Above the center house there decorates a statue of Apollo the facade, throning between the Muses of drama and tragedy. Above the main entrances are located friezes with Bacchus and Ariadne. At the exterior facade round about, portrait busts of the poets Calderon, Shakespeare, Moliere, Schiller, Goethe, Lessing, Halm, Grillparzer, and Hebbel can be seen. The masks which also can be seen here are indicating the ancient theater, furthermore adorn allegorical representations the side wings: love, hate, humility, lust, selfishness, and heroism. Although the theater since 1919 is bearing the name of Burgtheater, the old inscription KK Hofburgtheater over the main entrance still exists. Some pictures of the old gallery of portraits have been hung up in the new building and can be seen still today - but these images were originally smaller, they had to be "extended" to make them work better in high space. The points of these "supplements" are visible as fine lines on the canvas.
The Burgtheater was initially well received by Viennese people due to its magnificent appearance and technical innovations such as electric lighting, but soon criticism because of the poor acoustics was increasing. Finally, in 1897 the auditorium was rebuilt to reduce the acoustic problems. The new theater was an important meeting place of social life and soon it was situated among the "sanctuaries" of Viennese people. In November 1918, the supervision over the theater was transferred from the High Steward of the emperor to the new state of German Austria.
1922/1923 the Academy Theatre was opened as a chamber play stage of the Burgtheater. On 8th May 1925, the Burgtheater went into Austria's criminal history, as here Mentscha Karnitschewa perpetrated a revolver assassination on Todor Panitza.
The Burgtheater in time of National Socialism
The National Socialist ideas also left traces in the history of the Burgtheater. In 1939 appeared in Adolf Luser Verlag the strongly anti-Semitic characterized book of theater scientist Heinz Kindermann "The Burgtheater. Heritage and mission of a national theater", in which he, among other things, analyzed the "Jewish influence "on the Burgtheater. On 14 October 1938 was on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Burgtheater a Don Carlos production of Karl-Heinz Stroux shown that served Hitler's ideology. The role of the Marquis of Posa played the same Ewald Balser, who in a different Don Carlos production a year earlier (by Heinz Hilpert) at the Deutsches Theater in the same role with the sentence in direction of Joseph Goebbels box vociferated: "just give freedom of thought". The actor and director Lothar Müthel, who was director of the Burgtheater between 1939 and 1945, staged 1943 the Merchant of Venice, in which Werner Kraus the Jew Shylock clearly anti-Semitic represented. The same director staged after the war Lessing's parable Nathan the Wise. Adolf Hitler himself visited during the Nazi regime the Burgtheater only once (1938), and later he refused in pure fear of an assassination.
For actors and theater staff who were classified according to the Reich Citizenship Law of 1935 as "Jews ", were quickly imposed stage bans, within a few days, they were on leave, fired or arrested. The Burgtheater ensemble between 1938 and 1945 did not put up significant resistance against the Nazi ideology, the repertoire was heavily censored, only a few joined the Resistance, as Judith Holzmeister (then also at the People's Theatre engaged) or the actor Fritz Lehmann. Although Jewish members of the ensemble indeed have been helped to emigrate, was still an actor, Fritz Strassny, taken to a concentration camp and murdered there.
The Burgtheater at the end of the war and after the Second World War
In summer 1944, the Burgtheater had to be closed because of the decreed general theater suspension. From 1 April 1945, as the Red Army approached Vienna, camped a military unit in the house, a portion was used as an arsenal. In a bomb attack the house at the Ring was damaged and burned down on 12th April 1945 completely. Auditorium and stage were useless, only the steel structure remained. The ceiling paintings and part of the lobby were almost undamaged.
The Soviet occupying power expected from Viennese City Councillor Viktor Matejka to launch Vienna's cultural life as soon as possible again. The council summoned on 23 April (a state government did not yet exist) a meeting of all Viennese cultural workers into the Town Hall. Result of the discussions was that in late April 1945 eight cinemas and four theaters took up the operation again, including the Burgtheater. The house took over the Ronacher Theater, which was understood by many castle actors as "exile" as a temporary home (and remained there to 1955). This venue chose the newly appointed director Raoul Aslan, who championed particularly active.
The first performance after the Second World War was on 30 April 1945 Sappho by Franz Grillparzer directed by Adolf Rott from 1943 with Maria Eis in the title role. Also other productions from the Nazi era were resumed. With Paul Hoerbiger, a few days ago as Nazi prisoner still in mortal danger, was shown the play of Nestroy Mädl (Girlie) from the suburbs. The Academy Theatre could be played (the first performance was on 19 April 1945 Hedda Gabler, a production of Rott from the year 1941) and also in the ball room (Redoutensaal) at the Imperial Palace took place performances. Aslan the Ronacher in the summer had rebuilt because the stage was too small for classical performances. On 25 September 1945, Schiller's Maid of Orleans could be played on the enlarged stage.
The first new productions are associated with the name of Lothar Müthel: Everyone and Nathan the Wise, in both Raoul Aslan played the main role. The staging of The Merchant of Venice by Müthel in Nazi times seemed to have been fallen into oblivion.
Great pleasure gave the public the return of the in 1938 from the ensemble expelled Else Wohlgemuth on stage. She performaed after seven years in exile in December 1945 in Clare Biharys The other mother in the Academy Theater. 1951 opened the Burgtheater its doors for the first time, but only the left wing, where the celebrations on the 175th anniversary of the theater took place.
1948, a competition for the reconstruction was tendered: Josef Gielen, who was then director, first tended to support the design of ex aequo-ranked Otto Niedermoser, according to which the house was to be rebuilt into a modern gallery theater. Finally, he agreed but then for the project by Michael Engelhardt, whose plan was conservative but also cost effective. The character of the lodges theater was largely taken into account and maintained, the central royal box but has been replaced by two balconies, and with a new slanted ceiling construction in the audience was the acoustics, the shortcoming of the house, improved significantly.
On 14 October 1955 was happening under Adolf Rott the reopening of the restored house at the Ring. For this occasion Mozart's A Little Night Music was played. On 15 and on 16 October it was followed by the first performance (for reasons of space as a double premiere) in the restored theater: King Ottokar's Fortune and End of Franz Grillparzer, staged by Adolf Rott. A few months after the signing of the Austrian State Treaty was the choice of this play, which the beginning of Habsburg rule in Austria makes a subject of discussion and Ottokar of Horneck's eulogy on Austria (... it's a good country / Well worth that a prince bow to it! / where have you yet seen the same?... ) contains highly symbolic. Rott and under his successors Ernst Haeusserman and Gerhard Klingenberg the classic Burgtheater style and the Burgtheater German for German theaters were finally pointing the way .
In the 1950s and 1960s, the Burgtheater participated (with other well-known theaters in Vienna) on the so-called Brecht boycott.
Gerhard Klingenberg internationalized the Burgtheater, he invited renowned stage directors such as Dieter Dorn, Peter Hall, Luca Ronconi, Giorgio Strehler, Roberto Guicciardini and Otomar Krejča. Klingenberg also enabled the castle debuts of Claus Peymann and Thomas Bernhard (1974 world premiere of The Hunting Party). Bernhard was as a successor of Klingenberg mentioned, but eventually was appointed Achim Benning, whereupon the writer with the text "The theatrical shack on the ring (how I should become the director of the Burgtheater)" answered.
Benning, the first ensemble representative of the Burgtheater which was appointed director, continued Klingenberg's way of Europeanization by other means, brought directors such as Adolf Dresen, Manfred Wekwerth or Thomas Langhoff to Vienna, looked with performances of plays of Vaclav Havel to the then politically separated East and took the the public taste more into consideration.
Directorate Claus Peymann 1986-1999
Under the by short-term Minister of Education Helmut Zilk brought to Vienna Claus Peymann, director from 1986 to 1999, there was further modernization of the programme and staging styles. Moreover Peymann was never at a loss for critical contributions in the public, a hitherto unusual attitude for Burgtheater directors. Therefore, he and his program within sections of the audience met with rejection. The greatest theater scandal in Vienna since 1945 occurred in 1988 concerning the premiere of Thomas Bernhard's Heldenplatz (Place of the Heroes) drama which was fiercly fought by conservative politicians and zealots. The play deals with the Vergangenheitsbewältigung (process of coming to terms with the past) and illuminates the present management in Austria - with attacks on the then ruling Social Democratic Party - critically. Together with Claus Peymann Bernhard after the premiere dared to face on the stage applause and boos.
Bernard, to his home country bound in love-hate relationship, prohibited the performance of his plays in Austria before his death in 1989 by will. Peymann, to Bernhard bound in a difficult friendship (see Bernhard's play Claus Peymann buys a pair of pants and goes eating with me) feared harm for the author's work, should his plays precisely in his homeland not being shown. First, it was through permission of the executor Peter Fabjan - Bernhard's half-brother - after all, possible the already in the schedule of the Burgtheater included productions to continue. Finally, shortly before the tenth anniversary of the death of Bernard it came to the revival of the Bernhard play Before retirement by the first performance director Peymann. The plays by Bernhard are since then continued on the programme of the Burgtheater and they are regularly newly produced.
In 1993, the rehearsal stage of the Castle theater was opened in the arsenal (architect Gustav Peichl). Since 1999, the Burgtheater has the operation form of a limited corporation.
Directorate Klaus Bachler 1999-2009
Peymann was followed in 1999 by Klaus Bachler as director. He is a trained actor, but was mostly as a cultural manager (director of the Vienna Festival) active. Bachler moved the theater as a cultural event in the foreground and he engaged for this purpose directors such as Luc Bondy, Andrea Breth, Peter Zadek and Martin Kušej.

Jubilee Year 2005
In October 2005, the Burgtheater celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its reopening with a gala evening and the performance of Grillparzer's King Ottokar's Fortune and End, directed by Martin Kušej that had been performed in August 2005 at the Salzburg Festival as a great success. Michael Maertens (in the role of Rudolf of Habsburg) received the Nestroy Theatre Award for Best Actor for his role in this play. Actor Tobias Moretti was awarded in 2006 for this role with the Gertrude Eysoldt Ring.
Furthermore, there were on 16th October 2005 the open day on which the 82-minute film "burg/private. 82 miniatures" of Sepp Dreissinger was shown for the first time. The film contains one-minute film "Stand portraits" of Castle actors and guest actors who, without saying a word, try to present themselves with a as natural as possible facial expression. Klaus Dermutz wrote a work on the history of the Burgtheater. As a motto of this season served a quotation from Lessing's Minna von Barnhelm: "It's so sad to be happy alone."
The Burgtheater on the Mozart Year 2006
Also the Mozart Year 2006 was at the Burgtheater was remembered. As Mozart's Singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail in 1782 in the courtyard of Castle Theatre was premiered came in cooperation with the Vienna State Opera on the occasion of the Vienna Festival in May 2006 a new production (directed by Karin Beier) of this opera on stage.
Directorate Matthias Hartmann since 2009
Since September 2009, Matthias Hartmann is Artistic Director of the Burgtheater. A native of Osnabrück, he directed the stage houses of Bochum and Zurich. With his directors like Alvis Hermanis, Roland Schimmelpfennig, David Bösch, Stefan Bachmann, Stefan Pucher, Michael Thalheimer, came actresses like Dorte Lyssweski, Katharina Lorenz, Sarah Viktoria Frick, Mavie Hoerbiger, Lucas Gregorowicz and Martin Wuttke came permanently to the Burg. Matthias Hartmann himself staged around three premieres per season, about once a year, he staged at the major opera houses. For more internationality and "cross-over", he won the Belgian artist Jan Lauwers and his Need Company as "Artists in Residence" for the Castle, the New York group Nature Theater of Oklahoma show their great episode drama Live and Times of an annual continuation. For the new look - the Burgtheater presents itself without a solid logo with word games around the BURG - the Burgtheater in 2011 was awarded the Cultural Brand of the Year .

I love this picture of my niece Jenna. She was colouring a picture at the kitchen table when I took this picture, I thought the light was beautiful on her face and she has such beautiful eyes.
Well, as some you of you might noticed last week I didn't post any photo of the day. Simple explanation: I was without internet the whole week and didn't had the chance to upload anything... Because of that some days I didn't took any photo, so I posted photos I took during that week.
I told in the beginning of the project I wasn't going to give up, but the truth is, latelly I haven't been in the best mood to photograph, and all my ideas didn't come as I want, so I'm a bit frustrated with the way this is going. Hopefully, it will get better. I'll make an effort for the next photos get a lot better than my last ones!

Officers from GMP's Safer Transport Team were out in force last week focusing on speeding and driving offences.
In just one day (Wednesday 16 September) over 40 people were reported for speeding with the highest being 56mph in a 30mph zone.
Safety checks were also made as part of Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) in an effort to improve road safety in Greater Manchester.
Officers also seized 5 vehicles (3 for no insurance, 1 for no licence and 1 for no MOT) and processed traffic offence reports including:
14 for using a mobile phone whilst driving
25 for not wearing a seatbelt
10 for issues with their number plate
5 for defective tyres
9 for illegal window tints
Chief Inspector Gareth Firth from GMP's Safer Transport Team said: “Sadly we have seen a number of deaths on our roads which is why national campaigns such as Project EDWARD are so important. Speeding has been a factor within these fatalities however we have also seen them happen due to careless driving; and life-threatening injuries which could have been prevented had seatbelts been worn correctly.
"This is just a fraction of drivers that have been stopped for offences in one day and sadly the number of vehicles we stopped was far higher than we had anticipated.

More than 60 families lost a loved one on our roads alone last year – with a further 600 people suffering serious and often life-changing injuries. That’s more than 600 families affected and their lives changed forever.
“Collisions are often the result of speeding or being distracted at the wheel - even a moment’s lapse of attention can cause an accident. So please stay alert, watch what’s happening and think ahead. Lives can be wrecked in an instant and the consequences last a lifetime.”
GMFRS’ Head of Prevention, Area Manager Paul Duggan, said: “Sadly, our firefighters are called to hundreds of serious road traffic collisions every year and all too often witness people suffering life-changing injuries, or worse.
“Some people may not realise but we actually rescue more casualties from road traffic collisions than we do from fires - so we are keen to work with our partners at every opportunity and support campaigns such as Project EDWARD in a bid to keep people safe on our roads."

My friend, Lucy, is visiting this morning, while her partner teaches a class up the coast. We walked to the beach for a bit of fresh air and spotted these kite surfers. We didn't stay out for long - it was windy and my cold has moved to my chest. So the fresh air was a good idea but being out too long was not.

Toni Treadway gave us some Kodachrome to shoot and process before the last K-14 batch is processed at the end of the year. We shooting it at Charlie's Drive-In in Hortonville. Contemplating nostalgia and what it means to people and why it is taboo subject matter for art.
I applied a few coats of black rubber paint. This should be interesting... it really does feel like rubber when dry.
I have to be careful to cut out the masking tape so I don't pull the rubber coating off.
And hopefully it is not too thick so I can still get the metal clips on the sides and fit this to the back!
Time to fire up the lathe and turn some adaptors to fit the tripod and mount. If I can fabricate the pier, it will completely eliminate the possibility of running the camera into a tripod leg while imaging at high angles and through the meridian.
An utterly miserable, pissing it down day in South London. Still, walking across this footbridge I couldn't ignore this scene :)
Every year, my wife's mom makes a huge load of cookies for friends and family. This was definitely a bit of a "make something out of nothing" situation, and I'm actually happier with this than I thought I'd be.
Today is a cold blustery day, gusty winds and snow flurries. Found this fence up the road by the creek, I loved the reflections of the trees in the water.
(still trying to figure out this new camera, I see it has the date/time wrong so I'll have to check into that)

Went to the auto wrecker for some parts, came across these two cars that had been crushed and left sitting in the yard.
Effy needed a better step stool to get up to the sinks and counters so we made one. Had Effy sweating away in the sun helping her daddy sand.
We painted it with watercolors and sealed it with a beeswax wood polish that we made. She had a blast coating it with the beeswax polish....lots of squishing between the fingers, rubbing it all over her face and tasting it. Very little made it on the stool.
Probably 2 bucks in wood and 2 in the polish that will last for a years worth of wood projects.
