Sanyo also makes a short throw projector. All the large projector manufacturers seem to be making a short throw projector to cut down on space. Plus, the short throw typically evolves into an interactive whiteboard/display system.
I got a quality low end projector. It's only SVGA, but that means good contrast and high lumens for a relatively low cost. HD projectors are much more expensive. I took this pic as soon as I could get it out of the box -- hence it was projected over a door. Still you can see light showing through on the right didn't really affect the picture quality. Anime works really well because of the high contrast and vivid colours.

Turn any room into a movie theater or giant game room. This Torpedo Game and Entertainment Projector has more than a six-foot diagonal projection, so you can project movies and video games on the wall or the ceiling. Works with DVD players, Wii, X-Box, Nintendo, Playstation, Digital Cameras, iPod, Computers, TV, Cable or Satellite Box and many more. It's so easy to use - just point and project.
It barely works, yet I let it take up 50% of the common room (since "It can't be moved! It's position must be exact!")
The projector kinda struggled against the daylight, but on the other hand how many bright sunny days do you get in London?
