I was able to pick up this used projector at one of my local comic shops quite a few years ago. This is the manual for it.
Figured out an interesting angle to shoot simple objects, like this projector screen pole at the training room.
The first projectors did not project moving images but merely lamps that projected single images painted on glass discs. Photo taken from the Museum of the Moving Image.

This shadow on a wall was created by putting paper, textile and strings on a projector and experimenting with it to get varied outcomes.
Moviola 35mm Analyzing Projector, Type NSE-13, 1950
With the addition of a projection lamp and a front shutter, this Moviola was converted into a projector capable of still display, as well as forward and reverse motion. Dating from the 1950s, it was used for screening dailies on location and for looping sessions.

Taken on a 7D with a projector lens in a home made mount (body cap with a tube glued to it and lined with velvet).
Some smoke from the kitchen today combined with the projector allowed one to clearly see the trails which composed the projection. There is some deep connection here you could make about the smoke allowing you to see the path from the projector to the projection, but I will refrain from making something up and let it be.
The apartment's finally getting set up, and with the couches, free PS2 and dining table, it's starting to be quite a legit place. I'm pretty excited for living here this upcoming year. Housewarming potluck tomorrow should be fun :-)
