Personally I never feel more at home than when watching my favourite film.

The first unit of the Optara project is moved out of the ABES terminal where it was discharged towards the Total refinery. The move was delayed by one day because of stormy weather on 21 October.
The 140 ton unit was manufactured in Spain by Tecnicas Reunidas and loaded on board of the heavy lift vessel Anne-Sofie at the port of Taragonna.
It is part of a 1 billion investment by Total in the Antwerp refinery which is the second largest refinery in Europe. The “Optara” project, as it has been named by Total, will involve 5 ship loads that will be brought in over the ABES Terminal at the 5th Haven dock.
The unit is loaded on a Goldhofer 4 file unit self propelled modular Transporter (SPT) for the transport from the terminal to the Total plant.
Details Goldhofer SPT :
Length : loading deck 16,50m (+4,00m for the engine)
Width : 6,29m
Height : 1,175m(+/- 0,3m)
Carrying capacity : 61,4 ton per axle (x 8 axles)
Each axle had 55° steering
At the Total refinery the flags are still flying half mast in honor of chief executive and chairman Christophe de Margerie who died in a plane crash in Moscow on October 20th 2014
I was on a lunchtime walk solo today, and zipping along past the golf course I noticed this leaf in the most amazing back light.
It looks like some kind of crazy emboss filter had been applied to it, so it got snapped. :)
On string instruments the distance between the strings and the fingerboard is referred to as the "action"
I rather like the interior which is both well put together (no rattles) and pretty good quality. It is however filthy and could do with a freshen up. This will be addressed shortly.
The initial assessment went quite well. The underside is in very good condition and the previous advisories of a damp steering rack and corroded front brake lines don't look to have worsened. Both sides will probably clean up fine.
Having driven it another 20 miles or so we discovered the thermostat is probably stuck open, which accounts for the temperature gauge I thought was non-functional. It does actually start to read when stationary, but cools straight off again when on the move. Annoyingly thermostat replacement is a cambelt-off job on these, however I have a work-around for this, which involves installing a thermostat in one of the top-hoses. Apparently this is a common fix on Rover 75s too.
The cool running, very short runs and long periods standing all appear to have contributed to condensation and thus mayonnaise in the underside of the oil cap. I was a bit concerned this could be a symptom of head gasket failure, however the coolant is fine and it's exhibiting no other symptoms of HGF. I'll keep an eye on it.
Initially it ran very well this morning, but after 15 miles or so it started to hesitate and misfire. We hooked up the diagnostic gear and a few codes came up. They relate to the EGR valve, crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor. We managed to clear them and remove the EML, but the crankshaft sensor fault kept returning.
On the cosmetics front we tried and failed to remove the dent in the rear bumper (a job for a warmer day) and my neighbour tested some wax treatment on the rear 3/4 panel. We concluded something stronger is required!
So what's the plan? With the sensors being relatively inexpensive I'm going to get one of each and see what difference they make. I'm aware the actual problems could lie elsewhere, but this seems a reasonably inexpensive place to start. I'll also look at some options for the thermostat work-around. I'll not get a lot of time on this over the next few weeks, so it'll be a bit of a slow burn. I'll collect some parts, start to tackle the interior as and when I can and then do some fitting up in a few weeks time. Watch this space...

This image is part of my "doors" project.
I decider to concentrate on very common and simple everyday use things, doors. But I look for interesting doors.

For Project Quilting Season 5 "String Along with Me"
Every part of the quilt (except the backing) is made from 2.5" scraps (or smaller). Smallish strips of blue to green form the background which I quilted prior to adding the applique. The blue sky is quilted with horizontal wavy lines. The green is quilted vertically to suggest tall grass. The raw edge fusible applique was laid out entirely, then fused and then quilted for dimension. Next time I might attach a bit, quilt, attach a bit, quilt, etc. I learn something every time I do one of these challenges! This one was a lot of fun and I kept hearing music as I worked ;)

Wellington Marina.
This evening my meetup group went to see a lighting art exhibition-y thing called Glade 'at a secret location'. It was good fun and interesting but we were not allowed to take photos. So I took my photo for the day outside at the marina.
Then we went for a bite to eat and a natter at The Establishment on Courtenay Place.

Project Gemini capsule, this was the first space project I followed (in elementary school). I remember once I persuaded my Mom to let me stay home from school (third grade) so I could watch a launch on TV. I think it was Gemini VI-A (15 December 1965) which was going up to rendezvous with Gemini VII, which was a critical technology to go to the moon. As a kid, I figured in fifty years we would explore the entire solar system. While the world has had some good success with robotic exploration, I still think there is so much more to explore.
After spending much of my working career as an engineer, now I am learning biology, another frontier. Of course, I am excited by the synthesis of space and biology - astrobiology. I hope to live to see another form of life discovered somewhere in our solar system.
Seen in the Museum of Flight, Seattle, Washington USA.

10 / 50 A few thoughts on this project
Rooftops again? Hell yeah.
I've always been really attracted to rooftops and whenever I have the chance to go on top of one I take it with a smile.
Today's the tenth day of this project, the first milestone of it.
So I spent most of the day thinking about what I did for the last 10 days and trying to figure out how to bring out the best out of this next 40 days.
Here's some conclusions :
- I'm not planning ahead of days, making contacts with people and deciding locations beforehand: gotta chance that.
- I'm starting to have shitloads of problems with my flash transmitters (one broke the day before I started and the other one last week) but the new ones are on their way and will get here soon.
- I'm not getting used to the 50mm lens alone. The way I see things is pretty much always in super-wide-angle or very close and this medium standard is giving me the hardest times.
- I'm taking way too many self portraits
A part from this, things are going pretty well, I'm finally starting to predict how the light is gonna look like even before setting it up, and I think I'm starting to understand color temperature a little better.
I was dreaming of NAILING this project from the get go, but looks like it's gonna be a long journey.
"What's all this rant about? Totally unrelated to the photo" you might say.
Yes. And no.
I booked a shooting with a girl for tomorrow and today I spent most of the afternoon experimenting with 2 flashlights and natural light, a little preparation for tomorrow if you will.
And whenever I was taking a pause, I was sitting on that spot smoking a cigarette and thinking about what I just wrote.
Exactly like this.
Ten done, JUST 40 to go :)

At the races. The wedding rehearsal dinner was at a local racetrack in Batavia. My daughter, in the last light of the day.
Here’s some of my recent projects I’ve been bluh about posting.
Amalialien was a High School Musical Gabriella Monster High hybrid I made waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before MH was even available in Australia and someone offered to get me a body so I can see how it worked. Cuz the proportions were so weird I decided to turn her into a three eyed alien and while I was proud of the paint job at the time it was gotten a bit more… worn through time so I redid it to be a bit mre blue toned and such to match her gloved hands lol. I’m debating on giving her antenae to make her more alien lol.
I was going to reroot my Steffie head but I was soooo lazy so I tried acrylic paint dyeing it to tint it to a more blue colour. Weirdly enough in real life it goes well with her eyeshadow and bluish green bits on her tail. I also repainted her eye colour to match her tail since the blue eyes was getting too matchy with everything else on her head. I might slice off her human ears and glue on fin ears but idk.
I spray painted my Allan centaur and while the black went on really smoothly the purple spray paint was all gooey and drippy so instead of nice gradients I got weird splatters. It looks like I’ll need to do some handpainting for his glaxy look.
Also debating if I should get spray paint or acrylic paint his upper body…
On what was the coldest day of the year, Gracia and I ventured out to photograph our very recently completed square for Project Patchwork. It features a little fabric bird, a necklace-wearing rabbit, and a scarlet branch with fabric blossom.
While photographing said linen square, the wind was so bitter I thought my un-gloved fingers would freeze. I tried to put on a brave face, telling myself it is not nearly as cold here as say Vermont or Stockholm in December but it felt very cold to me and I soon skipped back to a warmer environment than the park.
The raffle night for the finished quilt will be held at Craft Victoria
Monday 18th October 2010
At 6pm, with the raffle drawn at 6.30 pm
