"Cube" was an art and interaction project in our park, where people could design or `fill´ raw 2 x 2m cubes (you see the strips of wood) with different material or with any kind of performance. The common subject was about to reflect kinds of needs, personal and social needs and to try to `materialize´ them.
this may seem a bit anti-climatic to most of you. (in fact, i'm pretty sure no one even follows my flickr anymore. i know i don't even follow my own). but, when i started this project back in 2007, i knew it would be a challenge, and that i would eventually finish it. i've seen hundreds of people start and quit, and start and finish this project YEARS before i did. really. 100 strangers made me nervous, shy, apprehensive...all of it. i looked forward to completing it and meeting each person, but each and every time i shot a stranger, the nerves came back. i'd say i really enjoyed about 99% of the people, (i hope you can all guess the ONE that was not a good one!!) which says a lot about people. so, if anyone is out there anymore, THIS is my 100th stranger!! yes, i shot this way back in july--you know--i'm a slacker. just getting around to uploading now.
i learned about myself too. of course, the nerves, etc. were a huge factor here. but something else occurred. i learned that photographers are not only people with big fancy cameras and lenses and know about f-stops and apertures. well, maybe they are. and if so, maybe i'm not a photographer. because i don't care about any of that, and i was able to successfully capture images of 100 strangers, and furthermore, to get their short story across...most of the time anyway. and i usually did it with a point and shoot. i think that art, photography, whatever--is totally subjective, and that there are a million ways to get an image across. film, digital, iPhone, whatever. one doesn't make you better. it just makes you YOU. you know?
so doing this project somehow made it ok to be like that. i often told complete strangers that i was doing a "photography project" and had to show confidence in my craft---even when using a beat up lil camera. that was HARD! i had to convince them of my project, and therefore muster up confidence in myself. overall-i think i did ok w/ it. a wise friend once said: "its not the wand, it's the wizard", and perhaps that's true.
i also started LOOKING at people differently as a result of this project. where are they going? what is their story? why are they so happy/sad?..... i've always been intrigued by people, and this really opened my awareness. i learned how to approach them and not be intimidating. i felt it was important not to always choose the "expected"...very bizarre looking person....but sometimes, the everyday person was "my perfect stranger". i became aware of the idea of exploitation, and didn't shoot pics of the interesting homeless characters just because they "looked cool."
will i ever do this project again? hell no. but i have another one up my sleeve. if i ever get back on flickr regularly, that is.

stranger #100: Angel. I do not know a lot about this amazing person. What I do know, I adore. Angel was part of the crew for the Monserrat, which was our boat in the Galapagos Islands. He welcomed us when we got off the bus in this "panga"/dingy boat and took us to the main boat. His smile greeted us every day we were there, and he happily shuttled us from island to island. He watched over us as we snorkeled...scanning the water for sharks (although that was never said). There were a few somewhat scary incidents in which the engine on our "panga" died (flooded?) and we were left to float...out there...alone...in the waves....600 miles in the middle of the ocean...yah. Angel remained calm and tried over and over again to pull start the engine--never showing any fear. I know that he is Ecuadorian, and that he speaks very little english, and that he is an incredible asset to this team. Thank you for letting me shoot you for my 100th stranger, Angel. You truly are. :)

The HUGS project is a non profit organization that sends care packages to service men and women overseas. Their mission is "to give a HUG to every American serving in the Middle East."
Their most pressing need is Marines and National Guard members who have been sent to Afghanistan (where the worst of the fighting is taking place). They are stationed deep in enemy territory where we haven't been before. The only water and supplies they have is what they can carry in on their backs. When they finally get a break and can receive mail from home, we want them to find care packages overflowing with snacks, hygiene items, DVD's and CD's, Oreos, SOCKS!! and other needed items. But, most of all, we want them to experience the love we'll be tucking inside along with cooling ties and other items. We'll be sending out extra boxes to the Marines in Afghanistan this week in addition to the 50-100 packages we normally send. That's $400-$900 in postage and that's to send out EMPTY boxes, it also takes MORE money to fill them so....we need YOUR help. If you can help us with ANY amount, it will be very much appreciated. Thank you for having a HUGe heart for some of America's finest young men and women.

I know, I decided to stop (or to pause?) my 365 weeks ago, but I wanted to do this to see all the photos together. Even if I lasted 33 days, I feel proud of it and I'm very happy that I tried :) I have been tagged a lot of times, so here it goes:
#1. I am starting university in two weeks and although I'm looking forward to it, I'm super nervous too :S
#2. I had to move a week ago, but at the end I'm moving the next one. Living without parents? Cool :)
#3. But I'll miss them anyway.
#4.Usually the children are the ones who visit the parents on weekends to take prepared meals for all the week with them. In this case, I think it will be the contrary.
#5. I'll be babysitting since next week. But I'll earn like 100-120€ a month, so I need to seriously think how to pay for my expenses because my parents can't: new lenses, a remote, an external hard drive....just the trimestral metro ticket is 115€!
#6. So I think I'll start to sell prints (anyone interested?) and accept graphic and web design projects. So if anyone needs a print or a website, you already know ;) My online portfolio will be online soon :D
#7. But I'll probably need your help with the prints part because I'm kind of clueless about it :S
#8. I'm thinking about creating a Tumblr too.
#9. At this moment, I'm afraid of the future.
#10. Both the distant and the immediate. I have to go to the dentist again. I hate dentists :(

I can't decide on this week's Project 52 entry! The theme is "negative space", hence the unusual crops (done in camera).
I'm going to have a little sit and look at them for a few days to decide, unless anyone has any strong feelings???

Wednesday, 24th July 2019.
Went to view an Osprey project near Machynlleth but the viewing platform to where the Osprey's were nesting was a full 200 yards from the impressive hide building. But even with 500mm focal length and a little cropping I ended up with a nice record shot only!! The staff kindly opened the window to get a better image but the rain was blowing at times.
Anyway it was worth visiting, there are three "chicks" on the nest one doing practice flying. One parent was off fishing and came back with a flounder ? fish while the other parent was on top of the main camera mast which gave impressive video feeds back to the main building and the hide building.
OK so I'm thinking about buying book boxes and making them into cases for my dolls! I got the idea from the Cerise Wolf doll. Hopefully I won't have any procrastination and get this up and finished!

6 / 50 : Not meant to be seen.
Saturday.
Woke up early late.
Been busy all day long assisting a friend on a portfolio photoshoot.
Got home just to find out that it was "Open Museums" night here in Rome: just for tonight, a bunch of museums would have been open till 1am and completely free.
Now, seriously, can you miss something like that?
So I met up with some friends, and a pizza after (that's pretty much a measure of time here in Italy) we were out on the town.
First (and only) stop : the Macro.
There was a great photo exhibition themed around the word "work", and some of the work shown was incredibly good!
But the thing that caught my attention the most was a small booth, just outside the main hall, were a very particular idea found its space to be shown: I'm talking about the "Lost & Found Project - Family Photos Swept by 3.11 East Japan Tsunami) [Munemasa Takahashi - Kazuto Hoshi - Annalisa D'Angelo - Stefano Ruffa]
The project it's centered around showing the photos that were first swept by the tsunami in Japan last year and that were after found again while cleaning the remains of the buildings.
Photos that were MADE "not meant to be seen" anymore by the tsunami but that this idea brought back to light.
Photography-wise, I think it's the closest thing to the Resurrection of a Photo.
And I loved it.
And I immediately thought of this image.
Well, let's be honest, not exactly of this one, but my friends helped me define the concept and the beautiful Ludovica (whom I just met tonight for the first time) kindly accepted to pose.
So i prepared everything outside, checked the lights, and then went into the booth with her (along with tons other people that were there to actually see the photos and not this italian idiot trying to make one :D ) and shot this. In literally 10 seconds since I was sure they would have kicked us out in no time for that.
Holding the camera in one hand and the Softbox in the other.
It worked out ! :)

I don't do New Years Resolutions in general. So, for this week's photo, I thought about something big that would happen in our family in 2012. Something like... potty training our almost 3-year-old.

Project 365 07/05/2017: Manage to capture a photo of this damselfly resting on a planter. Quite a few of these guys were just buzzing about the front lawn.

This is tavascan Town. I'm going to run a circular mountain track about 60km with my friend during all night and part of tomorrow... yujuuu!!!
Before taking this course I didn't have any objectives in mind, but to pass and clear my GE requirement. As the course progressed I realized how much I enjoy taking images.. Especially the one that freeze the moments, capture actions.. It truly speaks of my nature, I admire stillness and surrender myself to it sometimes, but nothing rocks my soul harder then an intense exercise or going down the hill on my bike, and now capturing motions with my camera.
