I became intrigued with Meto several years ago under some very strange circumstances. I asked some of Metos Tennessee kin for the story, and they have graciously allowed me to post it here. While most people in this area have a Cherokee in the cupboard somewhere, Meto is Shawnee. I assume he must have been a strikingly handsome young man for the girl to insist on having him right away. Here is the story from his family:
Many years ago there were peddlers who came through the mountains carrying their wares usually on their back. One such peddler appeared in the Poplar Mountain area close to the area where Clinton and Wayne County connect. With him he had a Shawnee Indian lad of probably 14 or 15 years. They showed up at a local home. The man of the house had a daughter about the same age as the Indian boy. She told her father that she wanted the boy and the short side of the story is that he traded for the boy. It was illegal for a white woman to marry an Indian but she evidently loved the boy and to put it delicately they co-habited. When the boy showed up the only possession he had was a token which supposedly had the word Meto on it. ( Perhaps it said Metro). That is where the name Meto comes from.
From this co-habitation came a daughter. . She was of course a half breed so was not socially acceptable. She, Betsy, became the mistress of a man named James. He kept his regular family in what was referred to as the "Mansion House" up on the road. Back in the orchard, he had a little cabin where Betsy or Bessy lived with her children. Meto died at the Blevins home in Pisgah. He had driven a flock of turkeys to Jamestown, Tennessee to sell and on his way home he took sick and stopped at the Blevins home-place. During the night, he died and they were going to bury him in the Smith graveyard there on the Kentucky Tennessee line, but the Smith's protested that no Indian was going to be buried in their graveyard. So they took Meto down the road a couple of hundred yards and buried him there. For many years there was only an old fieldstone there to mark his grave. Engraved on the stone was the word Meto or Metto, I can't recall just which one
Many years later, (probably in the 50s or early 60s) .... the family stopped by the gravesite. When they arrived, everyone got out of the car and grandmother took the storyteller by the hand and we walked off down thru the woods. They came upon this grave, and the grandmother had brought a bouquet of flowers which she placed on the grave. The grandson asked her who this was and for a long time she didn't say anything. Finally she said, "Aw, that's some of mammy's people". Mammy was what she called her mother, Emma. In those days you didn't talk about having any Indian ancestors, at least Grandma didn't. Family members today from varied braches tell this story the same way and it has varied little if any over the years.

Female Adult Literacy program was initiated in 2016. At present PEP is running 26 Female Adult Literacy (FAL) Centers with 316 Female Adult Literacy members (Adult Students) in different areas of rural Sindh as follows,

There are 6 area officers and 1 WEP coordinator for the implementing and monitoring of the adult literacy program.
As a gesture of appreciation Pervaiz Lodhie President and founder LEDtronics Inc. offered a special gift of a Solar Powered LED Solar Light to the 316 student and 7 program officers.
Funding for the solar lights was provided by one of gentleman from USA. His name is not mentioned here on his advice.
First distribution ceremony was held on Thursday October 12, 2017 in Shaleemabad, Achaar Khaskeli & Shanti Nagar ALCs located in Tando Allahyar districts.
Lt. Gen (Retd.) Syed Perwaiz Shahid a renowned educationist was chief guest for the event.
Ms. Lillian Charles Program Manager PEP and other team members from PEP were present in the event.
During the ceremony 72 female students received solar lanterns. PEP will organize another event in Hyderabad for the distribution of remaining solar lights in November 2017.

Women Empowerment groups were started in 2013 in all the PEP schools. The ideas was to provide awareness to women regarding their rights, responsibilities, savings, and issues such as early marriage. These women were provided training on building low cost washroom and they were also provided training on how to save their families during severe floods. At present PEP has 67 groups in total. Each group has a group of 10 females.
In 2016 , on the request of women, adult literacy course is introduced to the women. Project aimed at 5 centres in 2016 but 27 centre were started in 2016. they women were provide free books and no fee was charged from them. A mobilizer from the same village taught these classes.. They course is designed for one year as it is a weekly class.
In 2017 , PEP introduced a centre where women can learn from android tablets. PEP has designed three grade applications in Sindhi on tablets which are useful for these women. They can use those applications and hear sounds and can read the sentences and stories.
Now women are able to read and write sentences. Instead of thumb print they can write their names. They developed their confidence and able to perform theater on sensitive issues. Some of the theatre performances are uploaded on PEP website.
PEP is reaching out to the marginalized communities with a hope of educating them and making them effective citizen of our country.
PEP requested you to distribute these light as a token of thanks and as a resource for them so they can use it in the night too. They are thankful for all the encouragement that you have provided to them.

The CSG Community came together for Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The program featured musical performances from all four divisions and remarks from Head of School Jennifer Ciccarelli and Student Speaker Aisha Iftikhar '15.
PRINCESS PROTECTION PROGRAM - Disney Channel's sweet and lovely movie about friendship between two girls: Carter, an ordinary American town girl, and Rosalinda (later known as Rosie), a princess of a small country. The Future Soldiers Program at Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility gives selected juvenile offenders the chance for an early release pending the completion of boot-camp like military training and lifestyle. Officials in charge of the program at Pendleton are seeking to coordinate with area military recruiters to send graduates to active service upon their release.
