Council continues to support our Financial Assistance Program because it directly benefits local community groups who would not normally qualify for any government assistance.
This year we are distributed $84,689 across 78 projects throughout our community.
Projects range from recreational activities, painting classes, theatre productions and dance and music therapy, to cultural and teaching children environmentally sustainable practices, mental health support groups, support for people with disabilities, and arts programs.
The projects reflect the diversity of community life in our City and support a wide range of issues of concern to Council and our residents.
They are also a sign that as a community, we are working together to ensure that for many people our City of Canterbury is truly a great place to live and work.

The Medical Scholars Pipeline Program was created at the inception of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine as part of the school's core mission to create and support a diverse and inclusive learning community. The Pipeline Program shows the school's strong belief that the future physicians of this country need to reflect the growing diversity of our surrounding community and our country at large. At Hofstra North Shore-LIJ we believe that diversity in health care will help to address the many health disparities witnessed in underserved and minority communities.
In this experiential program, students learn about Chesapeake geography, social studies, and economics by following the blue crab on its journey from the brackish Bay to our picnic tables. The program focuses on the people who earn their livelihood from the crabbing industry. Students have a chance to walk in their shoes by working a trotline activity, picking stuffed crabs at a packing house, ordering from a restaurant on a migrant worker’s wages, and culling their dredge catch. The East Valley Regional Cadet Program runs October through May and is a youth educational program supported by several of the East Valley’s Fire and Medical departments. It is designed for males and females aged 14 through 18.

Kentucky Guard leaders participated in the State Partnership Program Leaders Planning Seminar in Quito, Ecuador Feb. 7-10
Kentucky has partnered with Ecuador for over two decades as part of the National Guard's State Partnership Program that intended to hep build relationships with other countries. The program links a state's National Guard with a partner nation's military, security forces and disaster response organizations in a cooperative, mutually beneficial relationship. HARRISBURG, Pa. – The PA National Guard’s Director of Joint Staff Brig. Gen. David Wood, joined First Lady Frances Wolf along with cabinet members and executives from the departments of Human Services, Aging, Transportation, and Labor & Industry for the 28th annual Holiday Wish Program gift drive send-off Dec 6. The program provides gifts to approximately 200 families and 100 seniors in need across Pennsylvania. Carolers and musicians from PennDOT and children from the Keystone Early Learning Center and the Department of Labor & Industry Childcare Center sang Christmas carols. Santa Claus visited with the children while PA National Guard members and state employees loaded the gifts onto trucks to be delivered.
