The United States Air Force Band String Quartet held a special concert on May 8, 2016 for His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, and other invited guests to commemorate a performance that took place on May 9, 1956 in Phnom Penh at the invitation of the late King Norodom Suramarit and Queen Sisowath Monivong Kossomak Nearireath Serei Watana.
Joined by two Cambodian artists, The United States Air Force Band String Quartet played a mix of American, European, and Cambodian music, including two pieces by King Sihanouk that premiered in 1956.
The musicians concluded the 60th Anniversary Concert with a special birthday message for HM King Norodom Sihamoni and a heart-warming encore performance of "Monika" in honor of HM Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.

Farm City is a national best-selling memoir about Carpenter's experience running an urban farm in an abandoned lot in downtown Oakland. On her small plot, Carpenter not only grows a wide variety of vegetables, but also raises bees, goats, rabbits, geese, and other farmyard animals.

Volunteer at the Intergenerational Community Garden Work Day at Ochoa Middle School Garden – 2121 Depot Road, Hayward – Near Chabot College.
The Ochoa Middle School Garden is one of twenty-five school gardens operated in the Hayward Unified School District, and overseen by Project EAT (“Educate, Act, Thrive”), an extensive program coordinated by the Alameda County Office of Education. Project EAT’s unique program involves K-12 students, parents, and schools to create a community that makes healthier eating and lifestyle choices. Project EAT promotes physical activity in garden-based nutrition education and cooking connection classes for students during the school day and after school. Healthy Living classes for parents and community members are provided free to low-income families. Through hands-on learning students establish a life-long dedication to their communities and the environment. On June 18, 2015 at a reception held in its Van Lennep Auditorium, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum recognized a dedicated team of more than 275 volunteers for their combined 28,235 hours of service towards the museum over the last year. Several volunteers were recognized by CBMM staff for their work in advancement and membership, boat restoration and maintenance, boat donations, buildings and grounds, education, finance and administration, museum store, and events and volunteer programming. Brighter Bites is a collaborative effort designed to improve access to healthy, affordable food and provide nutrition education. The University of Texas School of Public Health, KIPP Schools, the Houston Food Bank and Texas Children's Hospital have partnered to offer the 16-week program to third-grade children enrolled at KIPP Explore Academy and their parents. As you can see from the photos, those healthy kale smoothies are a hit!

**Becarios de oportunidades darán clases de primaria y secundaria*
**Se busca atender al menos a 1350 chihuahuenses en rezago educativo*
Intenso recorrido por las diferentes regiones del estado realizaron durante
una semana el director general del Instituto Chihuahuense de Educación para
los Adultos (ICHEA), Martín Antonio Valdivia González y la delegada estatal
del programa Oportunidades, Delia Rita Soto Payán, luego de la firma del
acuerdo de colaboración entre estas dos instituciones el pasado 28 de
febrero, en el que el propio gobernador del Estado fue testigo de honor.
Cabe mencionar que dicho acuerdo involucra a diversas instituciones
educativas y de salud, tanto del nivel federal como estatal, por lo que en
esta primera gira de trabajo los funcionarios buscan llevar la información
de primera mano a las autoridades regionales de esas instituciones, así
como a los 67 ayuntamientos municipales.
Valdivia González informó que a lo largo de la semana se realizaron
reuniones regionales de trabajo en San Juanito, Cuauhtémoc, Parral,
Chihuahua y Juárez, donde se dio a conocer a los involucrados los
objetivos, así como las formas de coordinación y operación del programa
entre las diferentes instancias.
El director del ICHEA agregó que los niveles de analfabetismo en Chihuahua
se consideran aceptables según los criterios de la UNESCO al ubicarse por
debajo del cuatro por ciento, por lo el reto más fuerte para el ICHEA se
encuentra en el nivel de secundaria.
“Sin embargo, por indicaciones del gobernador del estado, César Duarte
Jáquez, estamos redoblando los esfuerzos para reducir aún más el
analfabetismo, pues este indicador va íntimamente ligado con el de la
pobreza extrema”, comentó Valdivia González.
Por su parte, Delia Rita Soto Payán, dio a conocer que para este 2013
esperan promover la alfabetización de al menos 1350 chihuahuenses con el
apoyo de 450 estudiantes de educación media superior becarios de
Oportunidades.
Enfatizó que con estas acciones se da seguimiento al propósito que lleva a
cabo el Presidente de la República, Enrique Peña Nieto, de otorgar mejores
oportunidades de desarrollo a las familias chihuahuenses así como el
interés del gobernador César Duarte por incluir a las familias en la
educación con todos los beneficios que ello implica.
