While wandering around Bethlehem yesterday with my adventurous friend Torrie, we followed the path down towards a small river where they're in the process of ever so slowly restoring several old stone buildings. This one was part of the dye house, originally built in 1746.

I wish now that we had come across a young man then who stopped us later while we were photographing some other old & beautiful building with the comment... are you interested in old buildings? He proceeded to tell us he's been a bricklayer for 16 years after being in general construction for years before starting the old school trade of bricklaying. We then stood on the sidewalk & he was pointing at some of the old buildings giving us a commentary about the trade!

I wish he would have been standing near us when we were down by the old dye house to tell us what he thought of it's story!

With a proceed clearance from B/E CTC Bolton to South Siding Switch Palgrave clear main track, 01H-26 clears the main track to meet 8734 south 118 thats roughly about 7,500 feet long.

Just another frame from this fun day out last spring.

As soon as Amtrak 55 cleared the switch motor whirred to life and the signal out of the Deerfield siding flashed to a proceed and Berkshire and Eastern Railroad train ED9 sprang to life. They are accelerating in a haze of white exhaust as they slip thru CPR33 out onto the former Boston and Maine now MassDOT owned Conn River Main passing the vintage B&M era searchlights still standing guard performing the duty they have for generations. They will hustle down to South Deerfield for their first stop to work Nutrien Ag Solutions then continue on their way to Northampton to await a meet with northbound Amtrak train 56.

Looking nothing like the the old Pan Am, ED9 features two 'new' units brought in by Genesee and Wyoming, the B&E's parent. Leading is Bay Line 3018 an EMD GP40-2 originally blt. Oct. 1973 as DTI 418. BAYL became part of the Genesee and Wyoming family in 2005 when the holding company purchased parent Rail Management Corp. which itself had purchased the former Atlanta and St. Andrews Bay Railroad from Stone Container Corp. in 1994. Trailing is OVR 3029 a GP40-2W blt. May 1974 as CN 9426 and dressed in GWRR orange lettered for the Ottawa Valley Railrod.

Since Berkshire and Eastern Railroad has taken over operation of the Pan Am Southern property operations seem to have gotten much more predictable and consistent. At least outwardly their appears to be a bit more hustle and business seems to be on the uptick so hears hoping this this is a harbinger of even bigger and better things to come for the west end of the old Boston and Maine!

It was great to see the Restless flycatcher fly down to the ground, then fly up onto the branch then proceed to kill the scorpion before eating it.

While the parade was canceled due to weather, many of the rest of the weekend events were able to proceed

A neighbor recounted the story of 4 young boys who occupied the home next to his. They had heard the Jimson weed pod was a hallucinogenic. They put some on a pizza and proceeded to eat it. The neighbor saw one of the boys stagger out of the house and fall to the ground. He called emergency paramedics who came to the aide of the young man and also found the other three boys inside the home suffering the poisonous effects of Jimson weed.

A man drove by in a truck. He stopped and talked to me, then proceeded to drive. The snake began striking at the vehicle.

To cap our Sinulog Saturday, we proceeded to the SM Mall, had dinner with old flickr friends Maning and Tet and at 8PM, we all went up to the SM roof deck to watch the 1st Sinulog Pyrotechnics Competition.

As pyrotechnics go, I’ve seen more impressive fireworks but then, I really wasn’t expecting anything grand, what with the current economic crunch...

this photo has been on my computer for many months with no one seeing it. I thought it was a little too much, me being a father of two girls. over the thanksgiving weekend with both of my girls home, I was asked to show them the pics from Virginia Beach, so when this shot came up, everyone in room asked why hasn't anyone seen that before. well, a voted then proceeded and I lost 3 - 1. so here it is. the world can now see this photo thanks to my wife and my two daughters.

After a small flock of Buffleheads landed in Tsehum Harbour, a number of them proceeded to do a final stretch.

With the frost still lying thick on the ground, and the sun not yet having risen above the high retaining walls Northern Class 150 Sprinter DMU 150007 passes through the long deserted platforms of the disused station working 2B07 08.12 Huddersfield to Sheffield.

In the distance Cross Country Trains Class 221 Super Voyager DMU 221114 and Class 220 Voyager DMU 220030 now have a double yellow aspect to proceed now that 150007 has cleared Wincobank Junction working 1S35 06.36 Bristol Temple Meads to Edinburgh.

Ironically, the aspect given by this ex-Wabash RR searchlight signal didn't apply to itself for much longer in 2018, as it and all the other signals at this interlocking were upgraded and replaced later in the year.

Mother Nature is hitting us awfully early. This quick snap was shot out my front door about 20 minutes before posting it. It is the result of the fourth snow storm we have had in the month of November. Never before do I remember more than one light snowfall in November, that then proceeded to melt away, but this! Last night's drop was nearly 30 cm (12") and it is still going. The plows have been by at least once.

This is a color photograph. :)

As our cruise ship proceeded along the Rhine, we stopped for a day in Heidelberg -- one of the oldest university towns in Germany, and all of Europe.

I decided to go along on the tour with the rest of the group on this particular morning -- even though it was foggy and raining, and there wasn't much opportunity to wander around. After seeing several parts of the old campus, we were taken back down to the town square and given an hour to amuse ourselves in the rain.

As usual, I wandered about and took some photos...

During the first two weeks of September 2015, we took a river cruise down the Rhine River, and wrapped up the trip with a few days in Berlin. This Flickr album contains various photos from that trip …

We spent the first couple days recovering from jet-lag in Interlaken, Switzerland. This is the site of the Jungfrau and various other spectacular peaks in the Alps range — but it was so foggy that we could hardly see anything. I’ve included a couple of videos of a tram ride down the mountain, as well as some paraglider who floated down into the town park.

We then traveled to Bern, where we got on-board a Viking Cruise ship that headed north for the next several days — eventually arriving in Amsterdam, after making stops nearly every day to see ancient castles and fortresses, as well as various villages and small towns that have survived various wars, tyrants, and regimes for well over a thousand years.

From our final cruise destination in Amsterdam, we flew to Berlin — where we spent a few days at a very nice hotel that turned out to be in what was once East Berlin. Indeed, the separation between East and West Berlin, once so obvious and important, is now almost impossible for a visitor to spot. Except for some rubble, and a few small mementoes (like Checkpoint Charlie, a few blocks from our hotel), there is no obvious difference between East and West from pre-1989 days.

Danesfield House, 16th August 2025. The current house dates from 1901 and replaced a much earlier building dating from circa 1670. In 1939 with the imminent start of World War II Colet Court School was evacuated from Hammersmith to Danesfield with an influx of approximately 80 boys. As the war proceeded in 1941 Danesfield was requisitioned by the War Department for the intelligence Section of the Royal Air Force (Reconnaissance and Photography Section). The property remained in the hands of the Royal Air Force until 1977 when it was sold to Carnation Foods to be used as their Corporate Headquarters. On the 1st July 1991 Danesfield House opened as a luxury country house hotel

Since 2019 Kia is selling the Proceed as a 5-door shooting-brake. In the previous generation the Pro-Cee'd was a 3-door coupé. Both models are quite rare in Europe.

we again lifted anchor and proceeded first to the north of us to the island of sleepzie, uninhabited, [here he tells of a legend about crying ghosts, which actually were orangutans], and then still north of the island of krakatou, which erupted about a year ago and also is uninhabited. the rising smoke column of this island can be seen from miles away. we were with our ship very close to shore and we could see the trees sticking out high on the mountain, and which looked completely burned, but we could not see the fire itself.

The sign is clear for the procedure for diesel and steam hauled trains.

However, what about the urban EMU (electric multiple units) can these urban passenger trains proceed when the light is red?
