The morning of day 3 was a nightmare. I arrived in Bryce at 10:00 am sharp on day 2 to have the best chances of acquiring a campsite. I then proceeded to scout the area with serious intent. I hiked the Peekaboo Loop Trail first since it was the furthest southwest. Then over to the Fairyland Trail and finally the Queens Garden Loop to the Navajo loop trail and out up "Wallstreet". That was all good and well until I returned to camp for an early dinner and started feeling the mileage. Once there, I crashed like Evil Knievel in my tent. Unfortunately I was so trashed by the time I returned to camp that when I set my alarm I hadn't noticed the battery was almost dead. I still had planned to shoot the Milky Way that night (See my prior post)and was now painfully aware of my over exuberance. Luckily there where people up and about which roused me just enough to look out of my tent and I saw this. Crap!!! I'm late for the sunset. I pulled myself together and managed to lug all my gear down the QGL and started shooting at 11:00pm. the MW was moving to the right and lowering in the sky, so by starting at the bottom and shooting as I ascended was the best option for the most possible compositions. I finished up at 1:30am. Trying to shoot sunsets coupled with night photography and then shooting sunrise is a grueling proposition, and I still had five more days and 7 parks to visit. I decided to sleep in and save myself for the coming evening's night shoot.
Little did I know, it was going to be quite the adventure, and a very long night. :)
Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my photos and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great week ahead everyone :)
(Cercopithecus mona) The mona monkey is an Old World monkey that usually lives in west Africa between Ghana and Cameroon. But they are also found on the island of Grenada as it was transported to the island aboard slave ships headed to the New World during the 18th century. This one jumped on my husbands shoulder and then proceeded to open his backpack and extract a banana (our lunch) and then ran off with it!

yes, he proceeded forward into the shot and stopped right there against that yellow wall. you would think that would be framing photo magic..... I snapped a few frames, but his pose was without gesture and there was only a minimal leading shadow. So I decided to forgo that framed shot for this one with more inherent dynamism.
“As they proceeded there, black wings thudded in sudden unison, and a flock of birds flew up as they might from a ploughed field, still shaped like it, like an old map that still served new territory, and wrinkled away in the air.”

Pull the weeds in order to proceed.
Stand up!
Get to the roots before they grow shoots.
Stand up!
Then you can rest in the shade of the beautiful garden you have made.
I was working in my new garden yesterday and thought it was poetic how we have to get to the roots in order to clear out and make way for the flowering promises made.
Thank you for your kind visit Flickr friends. Happy Sunday!
"mama, why is that lady taking pictures of a wall?... i don't know sweetie, don't stare".
that was just one of the many comments i heard (along with the strange looks i got) when i was shooting this wall.
yes, to some, this is just a wall... but to me, as soon as i walked through the door and saw it, it was so much more.... it was wood and warmth and lines and light and perspective and yes, a wall, but a wall that i fell in love with and proceeded to take 50 pictures of... ha. :-)

.... a wonderful foggy morning at the local watering hole but a deer still proceeds with caution. Probably heard me walking on the bridge's crunchy pavement and stopped before entering!

Had a wonderful sunset and into the night along this gravel road in the Valley of the Gods, located in southeast Utah. It was so quiet and peaceful there into the night, a break from the hot windy day that had proceeded this time.
This view caught my eye as I was heading along the road in the dark caught my eye as the moon vanished behind the large rock formations.
This all followed a wonderful steak and beer at the Swingin Steak House located in quiet Mexican Hat, Utah. A must stop and eat if you like meat :)
Our trip continues now farther into the west and little farther south ... into Arizona.
A woman walked down to the shore of the green space with her dog, off leash. The dog proceeded to run out after this egret, causing it to relocate. She tried calling it back, but it would have nothing to do with her. She needs to use that leash, as required by law!!! First comment is moments before, as the dog charges...
HNLMS Abraham Crijnssen, HNLMS Schorpioen, Dutch Navy Museum, Dan Helder
If you admire stories of unlikely survival like I do, the history of the Abraham Crijnssen is fascinating, and also an example of the ingenuity which is common throughout Dutch history. This ship, like the other ships of the Dutch East Indies surface fleet that attempted to defend Java in February 1942, should be at the bottom of the Java Sea right now, except for the crafty if unconventional ingenuity of its captain -- who took the game of Dress Up to a whole new level...
The Battle of the Java Sea was a horrific disaster for the Allies, who lost 10 major ships and 2300 sailors. The Imperial Japanese Navy only lost 36 sailors, no ships. In the aftermath and fall of Java, the Abraham Crijnssen was ordered to retreat to Australia, a perilous week-long trip which would leave the ship, which was slow and lacked modern air defenses, an easy target for air strikes. Imperial Navy aircraft had already sunk many Allied ships at the time. Entrusted with the lives of 10 officers, 48 sailors and a female nurse, the captain knew that to simply sail out into the open toward Australia was a death sentence. So he came up with a wild but clever plan: an island is an island is an island...and the Java Sea around Malaysia and Indonesia has well over 18,000 of them. Why not look like one?
He sailed immediately for the nearest island, had his crew cut down as much foliage as possible, and then proceeded to cover the entire surface area of the 184 foot long ship with foliage. What metal the crew couldn't conceal, they painted to look like rocks. Then, they sat...until night. Knowing that the Abraham Crijnssen would leave a visible wake, the captain could only sail her at night. During daylight, the ship was parked close in to "other" larger islands, immobile. This must have been incredibly nerve-wracking, especially as aircraft were heard overhead. Yet in spite of how crazy this sounds, the Abraham Crijnssen pulled safely into Fremantle, Australia eight days later, the only Dutch ship of her class to survive the invasion. Don't believe me? See for yourself:

The ship behind the Crijnssen, the HNLMS Schorpioen, an armored ram from the 1860s, is only interesting from its unique survival from the scrapyard, a relic of the age between sail and steam.
While visiting a wonderful friend in Den Helder, he took me to see the Abraham Crijnssen and the interesting Dutch Navy Museum. Thank you for the visit Ralph!

Imagine, the whole globe is affected!
Stay safe 💖
Happy New Year to you all
I absolutely LOVE these little Bushtits. I looked into this dead tree and noticed about 150 of these little fella's in that tree and proceeded to try and capture one or two as the popped about. Then after a few moments of trying to focus on just one to get a shot, I realized there are actually only 2, but they were popping about so fast it merely seemed like the tree was full of them.
I wonder if these little guy's are on SPEED or some other drug that makes it possible for just 2 of them to be everywhere at the same time? I hollered at this one, "Hey, take a breath will ya, I'm trying to get a picture. How about a little cooperation, OKAY?"
He stopped for just a second and voilà. Is he cute or what, God bless him, he's adorable.
THANK YOU JESUS! For everything YOU HAVE DONE!! ❤️❤️❤️

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST, ALONE! ❤️
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

I went out to the Eastern Point Lighthouse in Gloucester this past Sunday and it turns out the Nor'easter had not completely passed us - It was quite stormy and with lots of big waves. I'm usually all for walking out to the end of long causeways, but a fisherman had just been swept into the water moments before! (he was OK, fortunately)
Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan is recognised as one of the most iconic images of Scotland all over the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands.
Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries.
Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932.
There are four generations of the MacRae family past, present and future who are still the Constables of Eilean Donan Castle today.
therefore I proceed to make it really less understandable by writing defensibly about it :-)

A battle that was only going to end in tears, either way.
The Sparrowhawk had singled out this Swallow and proceeded to chase it with vigour. We all appreciate the speed and the agility of the Swallow, but the Sparrowhawk stuck to it like glue.
How did it end?
They disappeared down the treeline on the river and I lost sight of them
You have to definitely proceed carefully around this long abandoned farmhouse near Damascus,IL. The original house was built of stone and poured concrete into the side of a hill.Later a wood addition was added for a "modern" kitchen and another bedroom. Now after many years of heavy rains and neglect, the wood addition is collapsing into the stone part. It would be interesting to known the history of this farm located well off the road. This unique build begs a lot of questions about both the age of the property and the original builders history...

Quietly, I proceeded along the new birding trail I discovered. Blanca remained unseen down below while I could stretch just tall enough to look out over the top layer of shrubbery. We had only a few more minutes before the evening sun would be gone.
Then I heard something. It was familiar but I couldn’t place it at first. Somebody with a high-pitched voice was excitedly chattering away. Finally, beyond the range of my optimal eyesight, I recognized a shape crowning a twig. I could make out what looked like the gleaming lance of a medieval knight angled upwards in resolute readiness – and that’s when it struck me who you were!
I’ve had encounters with you in the garden where you suddenly appeared out of nowhere and hovered 4 feet in front of me, buzzing at me like an oversized bee, challenging me. You’re so popular with gardeners and photographers, it’s easy to forget that you are free and wild, roaming the wilderness. I didn’t realize this, but every spring you fly from Mexico northward up the coast as far as Canada and even Alaska and then back south along the Rocky Mountains to return to Mexico for the winter, an incredible journey of roughly 7800 miles! You memorize every garden feeder and every secret forest meadow along the way, and you’ll even pluck insects right out of spider webs. You live by your wits and your feisty personality. You truly are an iridescent little jewel on wings, and I love you and admire you.
Obviously, you could see me but you still remained for a long time, chirruping along. I think perhaps your song told of this beautiful and timeless truth: Nobody is ever too small to carry themselves with kingly self-possession and accomplish heroic deeds.
Be full of miniscule magnificence!

Very territorial little Lizard. He spotted me a long way off and ran to confront me. Immediately challenge me to a contest of pushups. He did about 45 or more in just a few seconds. I said "Okay Pal, you win. No contest." Feeling superior now, he hopped up on a rock about 6 feet away, and proceeded to challenge me once again, but this time did about 75, and waited for a response. I straightaway turned and walked away, in absolute defeat.

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

This is actually a shot from my 2023 trip. These are two boars that ended up in fairly close proximity to each other and we watched thinking we might see an altercation.
But the smaller boar in the back ended up going up onto the tundra until the bigger guy made his way down the river.
If you're familiar with their body language, you can see how the smaller boar is being careful not to make eye contact with the larger boar walking toward him. He definitely didn't want to provoke anything.
