Este macho de Aeshna mixta estuvo unos minutos de patrulla muy cerca de donde me encontraba y en cada ida y venida se paraba unos segundos a mirar a ese bulto que le apuntaba con un extraño apendice. Esa parada era el momento idoneo para intentar encuadrar, enfocar y disparar, alguna foto pude conseguir que me gustase. En la parte superior de ambos ojos podemos ver una zona oscura nada habitual en esta especie, posiblemente haya tenido algún percance. Es posible también que tuviese problemas de visión en esa zona. En una charca natural muy cercana a la chimenea de Peñarroya en Cartagena.

Due to a technical problem couldn't upload this one earlier, still from my Iceland trip, this was my last day there, I miss Iceland already!!
Vanwege problemen tussen Venlo en Kaldenkirchen werd ik met trein 40039 (Waalhaven-Zuid - Busto Arsizio) aan de kant genomen in Helmond. Venlo en Gekkengraaf stonden vol met treinen die nog richting Duitsland moesten, dus mocht er in Helmond gewacht werden tot er plek was; reden genoeg om de 193 657 nogmaals op de foto te zetten.
Gelukkig kon al vrij snel na het maken van de foto weer richting Venlo vertrokken worden, waarbij er nog een stopje op de planning stond in Gekkengraaf.
Sa taille, sa silhouette, son allure générale le font confondre par les débutants avec une Buse variable ou une Bondrée apivore. Ce problème d'identification ne résiste pas à un examen plus minutieux. Son plumage est brun uniforme par dessus contrastant avec les parties inférieures qui sont blanches et délicatement mouchetées de brun. Sa tête large et plus sombre apparaît comme disproportionnée par rapport au reste du corps. Son envergure importante lui confère une silhouette massive en vol, reconnaissable entre toutes. Sa tête un peu semblable à celle d'un strigidé et ses iris jaunes sont très caractéristiques.
La femelle est un peu plus grande que le mâle. Les immatures ressemblent aux adultes, mais ils sont plus pâles, avec la nuque plus blanche. La gorge et la poitrine sont brun-roux clair. Le reste des parties inférieures est blanc, légèrement teinté de brun. Les yeux sont jaunes très brillants. La cire et les pattes sont gris pâle.
Le Circaète Jean-le-Blanc a un régime alimentaire exclusif. Il se nourrit de reptiles et plus particulièrement de serpents parmi lesquels ses proies préférées sont les grandes couleuvres (à collier ou d'Esculape). Une telle spécialisation est un phénomène assez rare chez les rapaces. Les serpents et les lézards sont avalés entiers si bien que l'on peut voir la queue du reptile dépasser du bec alors que l'oiseau est déjà en train de digérer la tête.

There's probably a gazillion different makers/distributors/sellers of "Laguiole" knives (in France alone there's allegedly over 130 of them), but most of the knives - the cheap stuff - are most likely from somewhere in Asia...
The problem here is that "Laguiole" as a single word is neither a brand nor a single knifemaker, it is just the name of a 1,200-people village in France, and therefore cannot be protected as a quality mark.
As a rule of thumb, only "Laguioles" with the "Laguiole Origine Garantie" as issued by the "Association de Défense du Laguiole Origine Garantie" in the town hall of the village Laguiole are genuine, hand-made knives from the region.
You may find the wording "Laguiole Origine Garantie" written somewhere on the blade and/or the respective logo "G within O within L" or "L within O" is applied to the knife - and that is a protected logo / wording.
Lauguiole en Aubrac also has the bull head as protected logo.

Après une montée sans problème, le deuxième petit, nommé l'Intrépide par mon ami Sylvain, décide d'aller rejoindre sa mère dans l'arbre en face du nid....c'est là que ça se complique et notre petit nous à fait tout un spectacle, digne du cirque du Soleil...un spectacle qui a duré une dizaine de minutes mais qui nous a semblé beaucoup plus long...en arrière plan nous voyons sa mère qui le surveille.

De energiecentrale Kolubara van Termo Elektrana Nikola Tesla in Veliki Crljen wordt bevoorraad vanuit de Kolubara-mijn. Daarvoor is een ruim drie kilometer lange smalspoorlijn in gebruik. Helaas was om allerlei vage redenen het fotograferen van de smalspoortreinen niet toegestaan. Opmerkelijk, want over het nabij gelegen normaalsporige emplacement bij de kolenverlading van Vreoci mocht vrijelijk gewandeld worden en kiekjes maken was ook geen probleem. Gelukkig is het met wat creativiteit toch gelukt een smalspoorkolentrein op de foto te zetten. Locomotief 17E-2, gebouwd door Škoda, met een beladen trein in Veliki Crljen. Deze aansluiting is overigens ook voor normaalspoortreinen te bereiken, zie de derde rail rechts van de trein; 24 mei 2023.
As I turned, the world around me altered abruptly; vehicles, buildings and the people that operated and maintained them became transparent, and somehow time itself seemed to speed up. The ghostly remains of once tangible people flittered before my eyes, leaving behind them faint echoes that slowly faded into nothingness. Only God knows what strange powers might be required to build such a device; as advanced as our science was at that time, it seemed to me inadequate for such artifice. I had, however, no doubt that this machine was the cause of my abstraction from the material plane and that this man must be confronted, before all that we held dear became lost.
I composed myself, stood tall, and approached the man.

Usual caveats etc.
Possibly due to problems further up the track an unscheduled train ran Southbound with a loading of mainly empty flat wagons bound for Brighton Hub. There was no sign of the paper train or even train 36 at Brighton Hub. The loading for the evening's log train was enginless at the freight yard and there was no sign of any activity. However TR units 11 + 01 did give me an opportunity to shoot the train in this nice colourful spot approaching the Hub at Brighton. Rarely is the scenery this green in this area.

Those who know me personally will know I have a little van and like to travel around the UK for my photography. I recently spent some time in Brecon and West Wales for just under two weeks. And I really loved spending time focusing on photography again. Just getting through some of the pictures now and so I have lots of wildlife and landscapes stories to come. :)
This Image is from the first night where I walked up Pen Y Fan. I set off at 1am and only reached the peak at 6am as I was too distracted taking pictures of the stars on the way up! But I was just in time for a beautiful sunrise. :) It was seriously an amazing walk in the night and would highly recommend to anyone.
Having some problems with photoshop at the moment and it seems to not work or crash when I'm using it anyone else having problems?

This is a another shot of the same Puffin I posted earlier. As well as the sand eel and the feather, I'm sure I can count at least nine bits of nylon or plastic in this little guy's bill, all of which were presumably intended as nesting material.
The BBC Blue Planet II series had a global impact and reached over 37m people in the UK alone. As a result, so many of us have been inspired to want change on reducing plastic waste and, of course, for something to be done about the devastating pollution that already exists.
The photo I posted earlier was shown on BBC Springwatch Wild Academy on 7 June (mainly aimed at school children) and BBC Springwatch on 14 June 2018 as part of a feature on the problem of plastic pollution affecting our oceans. Hopefully, images like this, as heartbreaking as some of them are, will help to bring about positive change to one of the biggest environmental issues of our time.
