"I'm telling you, these aren't a new version of Stormtrooper."

Stormtrooper Steve and Stuart encounter problems after a delivery mix up.

Re-edited and Re-posted - 27/09/11

although I think this bullshit isn't OK at all!

It's very very hard to add your photos to my favs at the moment. It sucks!

I have a serious problem with Cardinals - whenever I see one I am compelled to take a picture of them. The usual scenario is this: I'm in the middle of tracking another bird that I've been following for countless minutes, waiting for it to show itself. Then along comes this beautiful Cardinal to distract me and it works. Of course as soon as I go to shoot the Cardinal the other bird comes out in the open for a second and naturally I miss the shot. I'm sure the Cardinal knows exactly what it is doing - just look at that expression on his face.

The motorists stopped by this train should accept the fact that the old man isn't going to listen to any complaints!

This was the longest cut that I ever saw come out of the east end of Gibson Autorack Sort Facility. It must have been 200 cars and stretched from the east end, across 165th St, turned to parallel the NS at Osborn, blocked Osborn Street, and blocked 165th St. another time! One giant horseshoe of autoracks...all handled by a single IHB genset!

Kiedy maszyny te otrzymały drugie życie trafiając do LOTOSu, pokładano w nich duże nadzieje związane z pracą przy ciężkich składach cystern. Niestety ze względu na dużą awaryjność i problemy z częściami zamiennymi, lokomotywy poszły do odstawki jeszcze przed końcem leasingu i póki co szybko ich na szlaku nie zobaczymy ponownie.

When these machines got their second lives by getting to LOTOS, they had a lot of hope in working on heavy trains with tank wagons. Unfortunately due to the high failure rate and problems with spare parts, the locomotives went away before end of the leasing and so far we will not see them on the rail road.

This guy just deserves the spotlight because of that expression!

If you are a fly, losing a wing can be pretty bad. It's probably what enabled these two red mites (who I've nicknamed Maverick & Goose) to get a good hold.

Still this tiny fly was quite sprightly, and was scurrying up and down the blades of grass without too many problems. Not sure how long it would have lasted though...

In the queue for the motorway toll near Amiens, SMS 758 became the first bus in the convoy to need some `on road` mechanical attention. Fortunately it was a fairly simple problem to fix - a broken injector pipe.

Just forward of the garage code/ running number holder is the air intake vent that feeds a heat exchanger under the floor which in turn supplies warm air to the forward part of the bus from vents in the riser where the raised part of the saloon begins. `Warm air into the front part of the bus?` Yeah, right! Nothing that we noticed!

If you have a problem, don't say it to "Anyone" because 20% of people don't care about it and the other 80% are glad you have it!!!

The problem with a lot of these photos is, when the camera looks down, you can see my Boneless Chicken Fillets, so there's a bit of after-the-fact cleavage cropping going on.

I told my wife at about 2pm in the afternoon that we’re going to have a great sunset tonight based on the clouds. At 5pm I got my gear and just started driving, in hunt for something interesting to accompany the sunset.

I have a problem with authority. Well, it’s not all authority, it’s the authority of those who 1. have little but think they have a lot, and 2. have it and abuse it. Obtaining this photo I ran into someone with #3. someone who didn’t appear to have any authority, but layed it on pretty thick.

Just down the road is Pt. Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station. A Navy base. Via public road, they have this display of retired Naval military air power, F-14 Tomcat, F-4, some missles, etc. (photo courtesy of driko. So you can just drive up here from the highway, park in the parking spaces provided and look at these jets and weapons.

You better not try to photograph them..

Literally within SECONDS of me pulling out my tripod, a dark brown piece-of-crap car, all beat up and making faulty noises pulls up diagonal right next to me. I think nothing of it as the mid-20s Hispanic man wearing a white undershirt and some baggy jeans gets out. I’m still getting my camera ready on my tripod.

Whats you doin bro??

Just shooting these jets at sunset.

Can’t do that

Why not, I accessed this point via public property and those guys over there were just photographing them too. There’s no signs anywhere that says you can’t take pictures

You’re on govt. property can’t shoot the flight line

And just who the hell are you? (now I’m getting pissed – random dude telling me I can’t take pictures)

I work on base and you’re on govt. property and you’re not allowed to shoot them

Do you have any military ID on you or a badge or something?

I don’t have to show you any ID

Then you’re not going to stop me taking pictures. I have about 10 minutes of sunset left.

So, I walk around him and start clicking off exposures. He jumps on his cell phone and starts talking:

White male, beanie cap, mid 20s (which I should have thanked him for), driving a silver Honda accord, California plate “XTRAMED” (I wish), being very hostile, etc

So he’s calling someone on me. That’s fine. I’m not going to lose this sunset. There really wasn’t much else to shoot here, so I start putting my gear back in my trunk.

Where you going bro? How come you getting out of here so fast?

I only have about 10 more minutes of this good light left and then the sunset is over. I’m hoping to find a barn or abandoned tractor or something around here.

Well I just called the MPs (military police) and they’re going to be here in a couple minutes

That’s fine, I’ll be shooting something else by then.

At this point, he’s standing directly behind my car as I start it. I notice he’s not moving, so I get out, this time, a bit more pissed.

You going to run me over bro?

If you don’t move, I’ll move you. (now feeling what it’s like to have both German & Irish blood in me)

I don’t have to move, I can stand wherever I want bro, it’s a free country

I also have a problem with anger management

This is where I was just about to formulate my next statement which would in an ideal world would have been something thought-out, creative and recited with a 1960s Clint Eastwood voice, “You’re about to see what my knuckles taste like, punk!”, but I wasn’t given the chance as the base Military Police showed up.

So the police shows up and he narks on me that I was being uncooperative and still took the photos, etc. And I told him yes, I entered this spot via public road and took these photos that several people have photographed over the years. The officer describes to me that technically I’m on govt property and photographing these planes in this direction is also photographing the base’s air strip (flight line) and the base commanding officer does not allow it. I told him that there were no signs that said this and unless otherwise stated, I can take photos anywhere I want via public property (which was about 10ft behind me). He understood and was calm about it. I even showed him my photos and he said I could keep them since I wasn’t using a 400mm lens to try and photograph some top secret stuff. But that other dude got away without me getting his information.

I’m generally a nice guy. I’m 99% happy most of the time. But don’t piss me off, cause I will go Chuck Norris on you.

More First World Pilot Problems: just came off the night shift and noticed that there's a Porter throwing people out the door barely an hour's drive away. Instant dilemma: should I stay (and get some sleep) or should I go? Once again, the answer was self-selecting! Though skydive PC-6s are a dime a dozen in Europe, they're nevertheless still good for a fun afternoon out...

I cannot play videos. Doing so will always lock up the system yielding the above blue screen of death! And, on occasion, it'll just freeze when it's sitting idle. I've tried a bunch of things, but so far no luck. The O/S is current and up to date, as is the BIOS, and drivers. HP has what appears to be good diagnostic tools built in, both to check H/W and S/W...ran them both, and it found nothing. The blue screen above always indicates that it is gathering information and will re-boot automatically...wrong, it does nothing and stays on 0 and requires a hard shut down and restart. I've looked for help on Google, lot's of suggestions and subsequent tries, but nothing I've tried has resolved the problem. Seems like a watchdog timer issue! Only a year and a half old, out of warranty, and I'm ready to put a bullet in it! The headaches started when new, and I didn't want to continue with McAfee anti virus program that was preinstalled on a trial basis. I preferred to go with Webroot, and after I chose not to continue with McAfee I was literally inundated with McAfee SPAM, and that continued for months. It almost seemed like a revenge that was built in, and triggered for me not signing up with it!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassenthwaite_Lake

Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the largest water bodies in the English Lake District. It is long and narrow, approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) long and 3⁄4-mile (1.2 km) wide, but is also extremely shallow, with a maximum depth of about 70 ft (21 m).

It is the only body of water in the Lake District to use the word "lake" in its name, all the others being "waters" (for example, Derwentwater), "meres" (for example, Windermere) or "tarns" (for example, Dock Tarn). It is fed by, and drains into, the River Derwent. The lake lies at the foot of Skiddaw, near the town of Keswick. Some maps dating from the 18th century do in fact mark this lake with the name Bassenwater,[citation needed] and the use of the name Broadwater for this lake is also attested.[citation needed]

The A66 dual carriageway runs roughly north/south along the western side of the lake. The lay-bys are popular spots for photographers and bird watchers looking for osprey. The section running south towards Keswick was built along the course of the former Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith railway line.

Origin

Like the other Lake District lakes, Bassenthwaite Lake lies in a glacially eroded valley, left after the last glaciation. Bassenthwaite Lake is linked to Derwent Water by the River Derwent, which crosses the 3-mile (4.8 km) alluvial plain between the two lakes. There has been speculation that Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake were once one larger lake with the alluvial flats now separating them formed from partial infill of the original basin.[citation needed]

Etymology

'Bassenthwaite' is "'Bastun's clearing', pers.[onal] n.[ame] plus 'þveit' 'clearing', also 'common', 'lake'. The 1st el[ement] is usually taken to be the Anglo-French nickname or surname 'Bastun', originally meaning 'stick', while the 2nd is ON 'þveit' 'clearing'. The lake, in early times known as 'Bastun's water', takes its name from the village." [2] (ON=Old Norse).

Biodiversity

The lake's catchment is the largest of any lake in the Lake District. This, along with a large percentage of cultivable land within this drainage area, makes Bassenthwaite Lake a fertile habitat.

The lake contains salmon, trout, pike, perch, minnow, dace, ruffe and eel, though the predominant species is roach, which is believed to have been introduced in the form of discarded live-baits by visiting pike anglers. Also present was the vendace, until it was declared extinct within the lake in 2001.

Birdlife

Cormorants have been known to fish the lake and herons can also be seen; at the turn of the 19th century there was a report of 60 nests in a heronry in nearby Wythop Woods.

Lake District Osprey Project

In 2001, ospreys returned to nest in the Lake District after more than a hundred years. They nested by the lake, and have done so regularly since. The osprey family can be watched from viewpoints at Dodd Wood and by CTV from Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre.

Threats

Water quality is adversely affected by high sediment deposition, and there are other problems such as phosphate pollution. These issues are being addressed via the Bassenthwaite Lake Restoration Programme.[4][5] To reduce the sediment entering the lake more trees have been planted alongside watercourses, and clear felling of existing tree cover has been discouraged with the cooperation of the Forestry Commission.

Phosphates encourage algae formation.[4] The Environment Agency attributed unacceptable levels of phosphate in the catchment to Keswick wastewater treatment works, Greta Grove pumping station and the associated overflow.[6] Water company United Utilities was fined £27,000 in 2011 for allowing raw sewage to pollute nearby Pow Beck watercourse.[7] The company's £20 million sewer improvement scheme, begun in 2011, aims to improve water quality in the River Greta[8] and the lake itself.[9] The project will facilitate removal of greater quantities of phosphates.[10] Works to upgrade the wastewater treatment works and pumping station were begun in May 2010.[6]

Neolithic man

It has been reported that the wide gravel spreads between Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake provided the best centre within Lakeland for Neolithic farming communities. Stone axes have been found in the area and particularly at Mossgarth, Portinscale.

I wanted to state that this is not my house; although I wish it were. When we were kicking around the idea to move to Massachusetts, we flew out during Thanksgiving week to make sure we wanted Massachusetts to become our new home. I had been drooling over this house on a real estate website so we decided to drive out and take a look during an open house. First of all, the house is PINK! I loved the idea of living in a pink house. This house felt so right to me; the owner was selling because his girlfriend (I don't think they were married) had passed away and I believe he wanted to get away and start over. She was an artist and the walls were covered with her art. I will confess, I teared up when I walked inside. It was built in the late 1800's and had charm oozing out of its walls. We weren't in the position to buy at that time (we still had a house in Seattle to sell), but I'll never forget this house. So glad I took photos that day.

Problems are over, the dealer arived.

Ghosts of Feature Film: A Cinematography Project

This project is an experimental collaboration where shots were composed from a cinema standpoint, incorporating actors actually acting out scenes, in-character, instead of modeling or just being photographed. With Joseph Petito acting on-camera as the main star, I lensed different scenes from 7 films. Each sequence is part of that specific film's larger story, each film having it's own style and distinct types of shots & angles. We designed this project to create a cohesive cinematic illusion that these are real movie screenshots, but for movies that don't actually exist... hence Ghosts of Feature Film.
