This little chap left the nest today but landed in the back garden. He had no problem hopping up on to my finger so I got the camera out and took some snaps. He is now reunited with his mum who kicked up a fuss while I had jnr in me hand.
This image is originally from a 1970 Atarax advertisement by Pfizer. Today, Atarax is used mostly as an allergy and anti-itch medicine, but back then it was apparently used to sedate "problem" children.
I cropped the image out of the ad, cleaned up some scanner noise/specks, and inverted the color palette—essentially creating a photographic negative. You can see the actual ad here.
I get the "NO" symbol when trying to set a recording for Cops tonight (9/06/08). None of the other shows deny me the ability to record? Is this something that I've done or something Comcast is doing?
New collar old disc, this was her pink puppy disc we must replace it she has outgrown the "pretty in pink".
I like to watch for interactions between individuals or species when I'm birdwatching. I have noticed other birds sometimes looking over the shoulder of feeding Spoonbills. In this case a Tricolored Heron seemed to be really crowding the Roseate Spoonbill while it was busy feeding. I speculate that the spoonbill's reciprocal bill movement stirs up prey from the bottom, thereby providing opportunity for the heron to grab a bite. It seemed to be a commensal relationship, ie, not harmful to either participant, but apparently the big guy was not amused and was obviously becoming quite irritated.
The pmage on the left is part of a scanned photo which was first posted in the Photo Restoration and Colorization group several months ago. Following a recent discussion on this group, I tried out the technique in question (the Fast Fourier Transform technique) on this problem image with quite pleasing results. See the full image below.

Signs of a Heart Problems
Heart Problems involves a weakening of heart muscles and arteries when they start pumping less blood than they should. This results in accumulation of fluids inside the body as oxygen is not transported properly.
The symptoms include:
Difficulty in breathing- When an individual finds it difficult to breathe in a normal environment, it could be a sign of a heart disease.
Fatigue- When someone feels tired and low all the time or as soon as they wake up, it hints at a dangerous situation.

Looks like the problems on the project are continuing. Local St Ives residents may have noticed that the ship working on this project has been in the bay near Man's Head for the last couple of days.
It has emerged from local radio enthusiasts listening to radio traffic that the ship has got the cable wrapped around it propeller and it appears divers have been called to the scene to try and aid its removal. This must be a serious blow given that approximately 10 kilometres of cable have already been laid.

I wanted to fix this problem as soon as possible, which could easily have been avoided if the builder of the shed had asked me to run to the store and buy some additional cement blocks and other non-wood material to use to level the structure (it's a long story!)

Alarming fissures are opening up at the east end of the church, plasterwork has been removed accordingly to reveal the extent of the cracks.
My final church of the day, St Bartholomew's at the virtually non-existent village of Foston, a church hidden away behind trees on a quiet rural lane, very easily missed. I arrived to find the church being stewarded by a nice lady who was about to lock it up again so my timing was fortunate indeed!
The church looks small at first sight and for good reason, having been truncated on three sides, a shrinking population over the centuries having resulted in a shrinking church! The biggest impact has been the loss of the original chancel, the present east wall roughly marking where the chancel once began. The south aisle too has gone, although its arcade remains clearly visible inside, and the tower is a peculiar oblong shape as a result of the collapse its western face in the 18th century and the subsequent reduction in size when it was rebuilt.
Inside it becomes clear how much earlier the origins of this building are, since the north arcade is Norman work, but the wall it carries is evidently older still, as witnessed by the surviving head of a former window above the easternmost arch, presumably part of the church's Anglo Saxon predecessor. The church was somewhat restored in the Victorian period but there are still things to enjoy, most noticeably the large 17th century Faunt tomb in the north aisle bearing effigies of the deceased and his wife, somewhat rustic in quality but still of great interest.
Foston church is usually kept locked when not in use for services. Currently the east wall is causing some concern as cracks have opened up on either side suggesting that this part of the building was never properly bonded with the original parts after the old chancel was demolished and this end of the nave infilled. This will be a heavy burden and a major challenge for the small community that still uses this church, we can only hope some assistance will be given before the situation gets any worse.

The real Dutch wooden shoes (klompen) are perfect to be put on when you go out to take the garbage or fetch the mail. In the winter they just have this one disadvantage. As I keep them indoors they are warm (no need for socks really!) and so they always gather some snow on the sole and when the snow is wet, you get a lot of snow there.
Outside you just feel taller, but imagine what would happen if someone stepped inside with such shoes and started climbing up the wooden painted stairs...
I did this during my summer holidays in Cornwall and forgot all about it... plus I wasn't too happy with the result as you can see on the bottom petal... there's a little overlap... could you guys who are much more in the know about these things advise me better as I'd llike to make a couple more for xmas perhaps..
We've had a good steady rain recently - none of the bad downpours we get in the winter. The garden has soaked it all up beautifully - and the drainage system the contractor worked out is working perfectly, except this one bed by the house, with the avocado tree, strawberry plants and so far, a clump of parsley - I'll be sowing more and chives there as well.
There is no gutter, so water comes off the roof - I've made a little area with stones where it falls.
A common problem with landscape photography is "how do I make both the foreground and the distance look sharp at the same time"?
The first principle to know is that a foreground object and a distant background object are equally sharp when you focus twice as far away as the foreground object. For example, if there is a tree 1m away from you, you should focus at a point 2m away from you to render detail on the tree as sharply as details in the far distance.
This graph demonstrates the effective resolution you would obtain at different focus distances, different focal lengths and different apertures for an APS-C sized sensor (22.5mm x 15.0mm) such as the Canon 30D has. Each line shows a doubling or halving of resolution relative to the line next to it at f/8.
Returning to the tree example, if you were to focus at 2m using a 22mm lens, you can see from the graph that f/16 would produce an effective resolution of 2 mega-pixels for the tree and the far distance.
