"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.
The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."

The problem with bribing Cleo in order to convince her to pose for a photo is that she stays glued to the package with the treats and that makes taking photos quite difficult. I finally manages a photo but had to sacrifice her ears. :)

I know, the Battle River Bears didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year, but who knows, maybe one'll sneak out on the field during the game for a touchdown anyway. Ya never know!
Part of the problem that the Battle River Bears always had was their claws would often pop the football and the league got tired of having to provide new balls for them constantly. It is a real problem.
Anyway . . .
And so cool about the female pilots that will do the flyover. Can't wait to see that. As for the half time show, I don't hold out much hope.
This is an image I likely wouldn't have posted, but after an interesting conversation with Flickr friend Flaushi & Friends on a swan she captured out on the ocean, I decided to share.
I had heard there was an owl at the lake not too far from work, so I decided to take a second trip (first trip was unsuccessful) after my shift to look for her. My daughter and faithful Border Collie, Bandit came along on the adventure.
After looking for a short time I spotted her out on the docks and walked around the shore trying to find a half decent angle to photograph her. In the meantime, a pair of mute swans swam over to see if we had brought them any goodies. I ignored them at first, since the owl had my full attention, but one of the two was quite persistent. He (or she) came right up to shore, stood up tall and was almost beak to nose with Bandit. Bandit was quite entertained and went into his usual OCD dance bouncing up and down on his hind legs and licking the ice at his feet. The swan wasn't at all phased and stretched out his long neck with an expectant look on his face. When he finally decided I had nothing for him, he swiftly ruffled his feathers and turned away from me. This was captured as he swam away glancing back with a look of disgust at my insensitivity for showing up empty handed.

It is a real problem, is it not? How can we come to an understanding of this utterly diverse and complicated world whilst sitting in the particularity of our home? It is true that the media, from newspapers to TV and social media, offer us a daily digest of selected information. We would, I sincerely hope, critically examine these news and think for ourselves. However, even so, we would have to deal with the selective nature of the information. We never see "the whole picture". Our knowledge, even at the best of times, is necessarily fragmentary. It is absolutely important to be aware of this limitation - it is one of the virtues that make us human.
I am saying this because AI is on the march. AI has never ever left its ivory tower, it never "left home". It never made any experiences. AI has not seen anything. It does not know how to suffer. What it does is to harvest and (often illegally) exploit printed or published materials, information it has neither created nor even collected. It does not know what it does not know. And yet AI will come up with explanations and scenarios that are untroubled by any kind of self-doubt. AI does not know when it is peddling false information. AI will interpret the world whilst staying at its "home" and will not even be aware of it. Leica M8 plus Voigtlaender 35/1.4 at approx. F8.
Macro Monday Hobby
Seit 30 Jahren spiele ich mit Freundinnen regelmäßig "Doppelkopf", ein Kartenspiel mit 40 Karten, das in aller Regel mit vier Personen gespielt wird. Wer mit wem spielt wird in jedem neuen Spiel neu geregelt, zwei Re / zwei Contra Partner. Die Spieler, die die Kreuzdamen in ihrem Blatt haben, bilden das Re Team, die beiden anderen Spieler sind Contra. Feste Regeln, wie beim Skat, gibt es beim Doppelkopf nicht. Das Spiel soll sich aus dem Kartenspiel "Schafskopf" entwickelt haben, Spielregeln/erläuterungen stehen unter anderem bei Wikipedia. Wir haben eine eigene Regel erstellt nach der wir spielen.
Begonnen haben wir mit vier Frauen, eine Freundin, sie war/ist nicht berufstätig, war/ist häufig auf Reisen und wir konnten nicht spielen, dann waren wir fünf, das gleiche Dilemma. Auch mit fünf Frauen fielen Termine aus, heute sind wir sechs Frauen und das Problem wurde nicht gelöst, die Welt lockt und so wird weiterhin viel gereist.
Von Anfang an wurde mit Geld gespielt, Grundpreis 5,00 DM/5,00€ jeder Punkt 0,5 Pfennig/Cent, das Geld wird in eine Kasse gezahlt, zur Bank gebracht und einmal im Jahr sind wir zusammen für ein Wochenende verreist, so waren wir in Kopenhagen, Prag, Barcelona, in Polen und in vielen Städten und Küsten in der Bundesrepublik. Konzerte/ Balettaufführungen stehen auf unserem Programm, einmal im Jahr gehen wir gemeinsam mit unseren Männern in der Adventszeit essen. For 30 years I have been playing "Doppelkopf" with friends, a card game with 40 cards that is usually played by four people. Who plays with whom is regulated in each new game, two Re / two Contra partners. The players who have the cross ladies in their hand form the re team, the other two players are contra. Fixed rules, as with skat, there is the double head not. The game is said to have evolved from the card game "Schafskopf", game rules / explanations are available at Wikipedia. We have created our own rule according to which we play.
We started with four women, one friend, she was / is not working, was traveling frequently and we could not play, then we were five, the same dilemma. There were also appointments with five women, today we are six women and the problem has not been solved, the world is luring and so much is still traveling.
From the beginning money was played, base price 5,00 DM / 5,00 € each point 0,5 penny / cent, the money is paid into a cash register, brought to the bank and once a year we travel together for a weekend, so we were in Copenhagen, Prague, Barcelona, Poland and many cities and coasts in the Federal Republic. Concerts / Balettaufführungen are on our program, once a year we go together with our men in the Advent season in a restaurant for Advent dinner.. Macro Mondays -- Theme "Handmade"
When this theme was announced I knew I would use a Christmas ornament. Choosing which one was a problem though for I have waaaaaay too much Christmas stuff and a lot of it is handmade. I settled on this one made of two nuts glued together then painted and dressed.
The ornament is about 2.5" tall but the portion of it shown is only about 1.5".

"Quick Mom, before they catch us!"
Rather odd activity spotted at Waterton's Red Rock Canyon parking lot. This bighorn sheep lamb appears to be on the alert for the van's owner while Mama checks out it's rear end. The very courteous Warden (i.e. Ranger, thanks James) said this is actually a real nuisance: the sheep lick the chemicals off the outsides of the catalytic converters, particularly looking for any salts. Problem is they sometimes get their horns stuck while doing so, which is dangerous for both the animal and vehicle. The Rangers have to gently untangle them while the sheep panics and thrashes around. This can be dangerous for the Wardens as well.
She did get out by herself, wasn't harmed.
The lamb seemed relieved and appreciated having her attention again.

El problema que estoy encontrando esta temporada de orquídeas es la abundante hierba que domina todo y dificulta la localización, ya que llega a cubrir a las mismas. A pesar de ello es una buena oportunidad para con un poco de paciencia conseguir que formen parte de la composición, envolviendo con sus desenfoques a las protagonistas
As I turned, the world around me altered abruptly; vehicles, buildings and the people that operated and maintained them became transparent, and somehow time itself seemed to speed up. The ghostly remains of once tangible people flittered before my eyes, leaving behind them faint echoes that slowly faded into nothingness. That which was corporeal now appeared as if rendered in spirit. I thought at once of the charlatan, Crowley, and his Magick, but quickly dismissed the notion that such a man could bear any relationship with the truth now being revealed before my eyes: that reality was not as it seemed.
Turning further, my eyes alighted on the man. His left arm, raised in an almost defensive posture, was encased in some kind of satanic machine. I could see little wisps of steam rising from the elbow joint and a subtle orange glow that hinted at the incredible furnace that must lurk somewhere within. Only God knows what strange powers might be required to build such a device; as advanced as our science was at that time, it seemed to me inadequate for such artifice. I had, however, no doubt that this machine was the cause of my abstraction from the material plane and that this man must be confronted, before all that we held dear became lost.
I composed myself, stood tall, and approached the man.
“Hello,” he said. “My name’s Barry.”

Der Rhein hat zur Zeit so wenig Wasser, dass die meisten Inseln trockenen Fußes erreicht werden können. Für u.a. den Flussregenpfeifer ist das ein Problem weil er Bodenbrüter ist und seine Brutgebiete auf diesen Inseln liegen. Nun latschen täglich dutzende Menschen, teilweise mit ihren Hunden, da mitten durch und nutzen die Inseln für ihre "Freizeitgestaltung". Ich hoffe, dass nicht zu viele Gelege zertrampelt werden. Tip: sollte jemand der Versuchung eine Insel zu betreten nicht widerstehen können, so sollte er im Außenbereich bleiben, der normalerweise überflutet ist, und nicht durch die Bereiche laufen, die bewachsen sind.
The Rhine river currently has so little water that most of the river islands can be reached on dry land. This is a problem for the little ringed plover, among others, because it is a ground breeder and its breeding area is on these islands. Now dozens of people, some with their dogs, traipse through the middle of the island every day and use it for their ‘leisure activities’. I hope that not too many clutches are trampled on.
Tip: if someone cannot resist the temptation to enter such an island, they should stay in the outside area, which is normally flooded, and not walk in the areas that are overgrown.
Anfänglich waren die neuen Triebwagen der Gattung Pesa Link die Sorgenkinder des BW Kempten. Der Start des Einsatzes im Allgäu verlief recht holprig und häufige Zugausfälle waren an der Tagesordnung. Die markant gestylten Fahrzeuge haben bereits Spitznamen erhalten. Die respektvolle Version ist "Hai", die despektierliche "Klodeckel". Am 17. Oktober 2021 konnte ich bei Görwangs den RE 57586 auf der Fahrt nach Kempten ablichten. Gebildet war der Zug aus dem 633 037 und einem weiteren Fahrzeug des Typs.
Initially, the new Pesa Link railcars were the problem children of Kempten BW. The start of service in the Allgäu region was quite bumpy and frequent train cancellations were the order of the day. The strikingly styled vehicles have already been given nicknames. The respectful version is "shark", the disrespectful one "toilet seat". On 17 October 2021, I was able to photograph RE 57586 near Görwangs on its way to Kempten. The train was made up of the 633 037 and another vehicle of the type.

These tiny blue beauties really are very small, similar to, but smaller than forget-me-nots.
It's a very interesting plant the Brunnera, grown mainly for its exotic ground cover, almost succulent foliage. It has.largish, ornate leaves and wehn they begin to show again after winter it also sends out these lovely little flowers. This variety is called 'Jack Frost' .
