Deze bessen niet rauw eten, eerst koken. Ze zijn eetbaar maar zuur en bitter, na bevriezing zijn ze beter van smaak. Zaadjes verwijderen, die geven darmproblemen.

Do not eat these berries raw, cook them first. They are edible but sour and bitter, they taste better after freezing. Remove seeds, which cause intestinal problems.

Due to a technical problem couldn't upload this one earlier, still from my Iceland trip, this was my last day there, I miss Iceland already!!
This is an image I likely wouldn't have posted, but after an interesting conversation with Flickr friend Flaushi & Friends on a swan she captured out on the ocean, I decided to share.
I had heard there was an owl at the lake not too far from work, so I decided to take a second trip (first trip was unsuccessful) after my shift to look for her. My daughter and faithful Border Collie, Bandit came along on the adventure.
After looking for a short time I spotted her out on the docks and walked around the shore trying to find a half decent angle to photograph her. In the meantime, a pair of mute swans swam over to see if we had brought them any goodies. I ignored them at first, since the owl had my full attention, but one of the two was quite persistent. He (or she) came right up to shore, stood up tall and was almost beak to nose with Bandit. Bandit was quite entertained and went into his usual OCD dance bouncing up and down on his hind legs and licking the ice at his feet. The swan wasn't at all phased and stretched out his long neck with an expectant look on his face. When he finally decided I had nothing for him, he swiftly ruffled his feathers and turned away from me. This was captured as he swam away glancing back with a look of disgust at my insensitivity for showing up empty handed.
Recently fledged Osprey ...no problem holding on !

Après une montée sans problème, le deuxième petit, nommé l'Intrépide par mon ami Sylvain, décide d'aller rejoindre sa mère dans l'arbre en face du nid....c'est là que ça se complique et notre petit nous à fait tout un spectacle, digne du cirque du Soleil...un spectacle qui a duré une dizaine de minutes mais qui nous a semblé beaucoup plus long...en arrière plan nous voyons sa mère qui le surveille.

Taken @ It all starts with a smile
Bevor auf der Schwarzwaldbahn die Doppelstockwagen Einzug hielten, gab es im Sommer massive Probleme mit der Fahrradbeförderung (gen Bodensee).
Um dem gegenzusteuern wurde in der Saison ein spezieller Radzug nach Konstanz gefahren, der zeitweise sogar aus zwei BDms (Halbgepäckwagen) bestand. Sonnntag morgens ging es an den Bodensee, nachmittags wieder zurück.
Hier sehen wir die Freiburger 110 463 mit dem abendlichen Zug nahe der Überleitstelle Schloßberg.

In den vergangenen Jahren erlebten die drei verbliebenen, 1959 bei der Schindler Waggon AG im schweizerischen Pratteln gebauten ABe 8/8 der SSIF (Società Subalpina Imprese Ferroviarie), die für den Betrieb auf dem italienischen Abschnitt der Vigezzina/Centovallibahn verantwortlich ist, noch einmal ein Revival in ungeahntem Umfang. Grund waren in erster Linie technische Probleme an den planmäßig im Interregio-Verkehr zwischen Domodossola und Locarno eingesetzten Panoramatriebwagen, die zwischenzeitlich komplett abgestellt werden mussten. Doch auch nach deren Wiederinbetriebnahme im Laufe des Spätjahres 2023 kamen die ABe 8/8 immer wieder jenseits ihrer eigentlichen Domäne - den inneritalienischen Regionalzügen - zu internationalen Einsatzehren. Gerne mit einem Regionalexpress-Zugpaar, das Locarno am Vormittag gen Domodossola verließ, um nach kurzem Aufenthalt zur Mittagszeit wieder gen Schweiz zu fahren.
Ein scheinbares Ende gefunden hatten diese Ausflüge über die Grenze dann im Sommer 2025, als sämtliche internationalen Kurse recht stabil entweder von ABe 4/6, den Panorama-Triebzügen oder neu an die FART gelieferten Stadler-Fahrzeugen besetzt wurden. Eine Überraschung gab es allerdings Ende September 2025, als der oben genannte RE-Umlauf mit einer Hin- und Rückfahrt Locarno - Domodossola u.z. nochmals auf ABe 8/8 (rück-)umgestellt wurde. Hintergrund unklar, aber natürlich höchst willkommen... Ein - jetzt vielleicht endgültiges? - Ende fand das Intermezzo wiederum zum vergangenen Winterfahrplanwechsel.
Am 3. November 2025 surrte der Oldie ABe 8/8 Nr. 23 "Ossola" aber noch als RE 157 (Domodossola - Locarno) durch das Val Vigezzo. Erwartet habe ich ihn an einer meiner Lieblingsfotostellen der Strecke: An der alten Steinbogenbrücke, die kurz vor dem (ehemaligen) Haltepunkt Isella-Olgia in weitem Bogenschwung das felsige Flussbett des Melezzo Orientale überspannt. Dort auf einem sonnigen Felsblock zu sitzen und dem Plätschern des Wassers zu lauschen, macht einfach Spaß! Also kein Motiv für einen überhasteten Aufbruch nach der Zugdurchfahrt...:)
Wie es mit den ABe 8/8 in ihrem 67. Einsatzjahr weitergehen wird, ist offen. International wurden sie in den letzten Monaten nicht mehr gesichtet - Und auch die bislang noch recht verlässlich mit "Altbau" gefahrenen Regionale Domodossola - Re u.z. sind heiße Kandidaten für eine baldige Umstellung auf die vier von der SSIF bestellten Stadler-Triebwagen (baugleich zu ihren bereits im Einsatz befindlichen FART-Pendants), die im Laufe des Jahres 2026 in den Planbetrieb einscheren sollen. Auch wenn die exakten Auswirkungen der Neufahrzeuge noch nicht vorhersehbar sind, dürfte es für die alten ABe 8/8 (und ABe 6/6) bald eng werden.

This is a another shot of the same Puffin I posted earlier. As well as the sand eel and the feather, I'm sure I can count at least nine bits of nylon or plastic in this little guy's bill, all of which were presumably intended as nesting material.
The BBC Blue Planet II series had a global impact and reached over 37m people in the UK alone. As a result, so many of us have been inspired to want change on reducing plastic waste and, of course, for something to be done about the devastating pollution that already exists.
The photo I posted earlier was shown on BBC Springwatch Wild Academy on 7 June (mainly aimed at school children) and BBC Springwatch on 14 June 2018 as part of a feature on the problem of plastic pollution affecting our oceans. Hopefully, images like this, as heartbreaking as some of them are, will help to bring about positive change to one of the biggest environmental issues of our time.
