Why is the floor different in the north aisle?
The Problem:
There are thousands of burials beneath the Abbey floor but their decay over time has created huge voids. As a result, the floor has started to subside in some areas and is at serious risk of eventually collapsing.
The solution:
From July to November 2013, restoration work was carried out in this area (which makes up 5% of the Abbey's floor) to carefully fill in the voids and repair the floor. The pews have been removed temporarily and two-thirds of the floor has been recovered with the original ledgerstones while the final third in covered in new stone. If you look carefully, you will be able to see where the new floor meets the old, but the really exciting bits will be happening underneath! Underfloor heating pipes have been fitted and we are now carrying out a 12-month trial to monitor the new heating system in order to measure its effectiveness with the different floor surfaces.
The future:
As part of the footprint project, we plan to repair the whole of the Abbey's floor and use it as a giant radiator! Working in partnership with Bath & North East Somerset Council, we aim to use Bath's great natural resource - the thermal water which currently runs out unused into the river to provide an innovative and sustainable underfloor heating system for the Abbey and surrounding buildings.
Humans are not they only ones who suffer from getting old and lack of activity. This one will not move on it's own ever again, but if visiting with kids you would probably like to do the 75 minutes train excursion on a newer train.

This is a Pikachu Plush I have. One of my friends got him for me when she and her youth group went on a mission trip to Jamaica. I adore him.

Ahmed is a friend of mine with a serious problem. His disease is getting worst day by day and now he is significantly impaired also in simple movement like walking. Last year he has done both plain films than MRI evaluation to assess the stage of his coxarthrosis and his disease is so advanced that surgery is mandatory, as soon as possible. After several months of research we found a young researcher at Sapienza that introduced us to an outstanding surgeon with a great experience in hip surgery. Finally Ahmed found a solution for his problem but now he needs a lot of money for the surgery. He has to be treated in a private clinic because his condition is really serious and this is a one-shot surgery. In public hospital the type of prosthesis used is tailored for elderly people, but he is young and “normal” prosthesis are not good enough. Moreover he can be treated only one time because of post-surgery changes, bone shortage (due to his dwarfism) and other medical problems to technical to be discussed here, and so there is no chance for a re-intervention if something goes wrong or to replace the prosthesis in a second time when the prosthesis itself will need a replacement. He is a smart guy, kind, and involved in social activities as well as in media and learning activities. I cannot describe him in just few words, but I know him from a while and he is really a great guy and he deserves this chance to live a normal life. You can't just get a bike, you have to get a bike rack, a hitch for your VW, new exhaust hangers for your VW b/c the muffler is now hanging on the hitch and vibrating so loud that it sounds like you're driving a Honda CRX with an "Under Construction" decal across the windshield and a primered body kit. Annnnnnnd, you need a camelback b/c it's hot out there and a 20 oz water bottle doesnt cut it, they aren't cheap! Let's not forget that every biker you pass is on a damn Gary Fisher, and you're like "I should've saved up more and gone with at least a Wahoo." Why can't I ever pick an inexpensive hobby?
Is anyone else having this problem?? EVERY time I get up to do something, THIS is what I find when I get back. Sheesh!! How am I supposed to work like this??

We've got pigeons nesting in the soffit box directly outside our bedroom window. It's not much of a problem apart from the scritching and scratching at night. Anyway I called a guy and they're going to try and come and take a look over the next couple of days. He mentioned removing the birds, blocking the opening, etc. I don't actually want to know what's involved.
Ok, so as I'm talking to this guy on the phone, I'm standing outside the front explaining what I see, and there in the little alleyway at the side of our house is this baby pigeon... just standing there! Ok, what?! It must have fallen out of the soffit box and is now hanging out in our side entrance.
A friend suggested that we're responsible for it now, and we should take it in and raise it by hand. Um, a minute ago we were on the phone to a pigeon fixer... I'm not sure it's in my constitution to raise a pigeon as my own. I say let nature take its course.
Update: we've provided a small box as refuge for the chick in the alleyway... we shall see whether it's in our bed by tonight.
