Today I visited the "Herrenhäuser Gärten" in Hannover and searched for Collembola. In the "tropical greenhouse" I found a single specimen of Sminthurinus trinotatus first, then I spotted some Sminthurides sp. on waterplants floating on the pond. I guess these are Sminthurides nr penicillifer. On a pond outside were some that were defenitely this species, I saw Deuterosminthurus bicinctus for the first time, too, A stunning looking species :)

We are used to seeing foxes in the field behind our house. but this is the first time a healthy specimen has graced us with a visit. He/she came through the hedge from one neighbour's garden and wandered around investigating the lawns, via a conifer we have, and alongside the opposite hedge to the original entry. Where it decided that it had found the ideal spot to relieve itself. As you can see it didn't bat it's hypnotizing eyes while I stood there and took photos. Soon it tired of me looking at it and wandered back doen the hedge before pushing through it to the other neighbour's garden.
We had thought that the "presents" left us in the garden during the night were gifted by the local cats, but you never know, perhaps we have had foxes in our garden at night as well.
