Not a drone shot. Just leaning over a balcony - not perhaps the safest of ways to shoot with your phone!

I opens my eyes this morning and saw this form the bed, grabbed the iPhone and took the shot.

Our Daily Challenge: Abstract

Wentworth Estate.

I was taking the dog for a walk one morning last week and it was a very drab and moody day, however as we proceeded along the footpath cycle route, the sun came out from behind the clouds. With the dark, rain laden sky behind it this tree was lit by the sun, it's autumn leaves turned into gold.

So I took this photo because of the contrast. Seeking an image for the theme Saffron I looked up the colour description of Saffron, expecting it to be a bright yellow, therefore ruling out this shot. However the description states that "Saffron is a shade of yellow or orange ...", so I decided that this shade of yellow fits the bill. ;-)

Heading home after a long day... London Underground on a warm, sunny, October afternoon. When you're on a crowded subway car like this, you don't really make eye contact. But you wonder... who are these people? What do they do? Why are they here? Where are they going? When will you see them again? How did we all end up here at this moment? The train stops and the doors open. The moment, the people, the thoughts vanish in seconds.

Movietime!

Hi everyone. While I have a profound fondness for photography, my ultimate passion is still moviemaking.

This is pretty much the reason for my missing in action these past 2 weeks. I managed to wrap this up in a week and a half with another animator at my company and was on a plane to Johannesburg last week thursday & friday for the Promax/BDA Africa Awards event. There were some great conferences in promo channel IDs from the likes of Comedy Central, Discovery Channel and Channel 4, not to mention a host of others. Plus, our company walked away with 2 Gold as well as 2 Silver BDA trophies for work entered this year! Needless to say......some big celebrating was undertaken....(no pics of these to be posted however) ;)

So, for your entertainment or perusal, follow the link to view the opening sequence that my fellow colleague and I created for this year's event.

You might also remember a poster I did a while back for it as well.

(hope it's alright...cringe-cringe)

enjoy...

The knucklehead is a Harley-Davidson motorcycle engine named because of the distinct shape of its rocker boxes. The engine is a two-cylinder, 45-degree, pushrod-actuated, overhead-valve V-twin engine with two valves per cylinder. The Pieman River, like other West Coast Rivers such as the Arthur River and the Gordon River, is dark in colour due to the presence of Tannins.

What are Tannins?

Tannins are fermented organic materials that are created by the breakdown of vegetation. When water passes over and through this material it takes on a yellow to amber color. In the case of the Pieman River the main species contributing organic matter are Nothofagus, Lagarostrobos, Acacia, and Melaleuca in the form of leaves and rotting wood.

While not dangerous to drink, assuming no other harmful pollutants are present, tannined water is nevertheless not as palatable as clear fresh water.

The yellow brown water can stain clothes and leave marks on water basins and toilet systems that can be difficult to remove.

Here in the Pieman River the dark still water is perfect as a surface to capture reflections.

I had some fun capturing the turbulence created by our cruise boat, the MV Arcadia II.

Interesting and artistic patterns are generated as the sidewash from the boat fans out from the vessel, not to mention the reflections of the trees and landforms along the river.
