This is the case of letterpress furniture we inherited along with the Chandler & Price press that came with our house.
Sticks of furniture are used to fill out the space between the block of composed type and the chase (frame) that carries them. The numbers stamped on the ends of each stick, and running along the bins on the side, give the stick's length in picas; not visible is the row across the top giving their widths in picas.
I spent altogether too long cleaning every stick in here yesterday, left it in the living room overnight, and found the light striking it just so this morning.

On the back side of one of my recently received type cases there is an address label and some freight stamps from a railroad. This is enough to tell the story of this case.
The case was made by the monotype foundry Harry Løhr after WWII. In 1949 it was send to Svendborg Æskefabrik who sold it to a local printing shop - Th. Isager Bogtrykkeri. The office was established in 1949, and the colors on the address label (Royal Air Force colors) tell us that the lable/case is from the period just after WWII. The case was send by railroad to Faxe Ladeplads through the railroad company ØSJS (Øst Sjællandske Jernbaneselskab) for a cost of 2 Danish kroner – 2x100 Øre. From Faxe Ladeplads it was shipped to Svendborg. From 1949 the case was the home for a 48 pkt. Super-Grotesk Bold until I acquired it and mowed the type to another case.

Jennifer Horton, science librarian for Morris Library, turns on a newly acquired 3D printer, the MakerBot Replicator 2, at Morris Library Friday. Depending on the complexity of a project, a 3D printer can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours to produce an object. Gi Vania, the deputy director of information technology at SIU, said the printer will serve as an opportunity for students and researchers to work with cutting-edge technology on campus. My first attempt ever on woodcut printing (late medieval style) The wood I used (white oak) is not the best one, but for the first try it turned out quite good. Can't wait to put my hands on some good quality wood suitable for this!

Camera: Pentax Spotmatic, f3.5/28mm Super Takumar lens. Queen Street W. And Ossington. Agfapan 400 developed in Rodinal @ 1:50. Printed on Agfa semi-matte paper.
A relic from a bygone era on Queen Street West that has not been affected by gentrification as of yet.
Unfortunately, this build didn't finish, due to a combination of me putting in too little ABS filament and the Idler Wheel in the extruder failing...
