Had a fabulous day today! I led two printmaking classes at my old middle school. One of these girls made a "Loser" stamp to stamp on people. I lead the second part of the activity on Monday and she said she's going to make one that says "Pimp"-the kids these days. . . haha I sound old. One boy made this really intricate eye and another is making a collection of reversible symbols. I wish I could be there everyday (and next week I basically will)
PS-how much does the one in the middle look like Jaime Lynn Spears?
I wanted to have a digital documentation of the finals mono prints that I did for my 2-D art course fall semester. I really enjoyed our little printmaking section. It was really fun working with the inks and the press.
I figured I should share!
The alphabet quilt project continues. The quilt will be 4 x 7 rectangles: 26 for the alphabet and two corner rectangles which will show the entire alphabet. This is the 1st rectangle with the entire alphabet printed in various colours with my collection of vintage letterpress type.
The fractal has been transferred to the block of wood using carbon paper, and I've started to carve away the non-printing parts. The wood is green because I already used it to print a solid rectangle of color which will eventually be the background.
So... I'm in a printmaking class and I'm having far too much fun taking process photos.
This is what happens when I try to make a hard-line minimalist woodblock print: Frusturation as ink gets in the beautiful white space, followed by the construction of complex masks to make the ink behave.

The wood block printed with no ink, but lots of pressure. I did a couple of these before I started covering the thing with ink again. Fabriano paper, 9" x 7".
