Some of the fabulous work produced on this 5 week in depth collagraph course.

I wondered why I was trying to reproduce this as a print when I got to this stage. This is the results of printing two plates - the black plate over the colour. I like the colours and the strong black abstract lines but I'm not sure why I was trying to reproduce the watercolour so closely and the proportions of the groynes and the lighthouse do not work either. One thing I have learnt is not to make collograph plates out of `grey board' - even when coated liberally with shellac they are still to absorbent.

Looking at this image again a month or so after I completed it I think I'll have another go at producing a new print plate. I've got another project involving a view along the coast to Staithes ongoing at the moment and it feels like the drypoint/collograph combination is much more in keeping with my style and I like the quality of line that I can get with this process.
