Open Space is chaotic, productive, and fun! There is no keynote speaker, no set schedule of workshops, no panel discussions, and no exhibit booths. Instead, anyone who wants to initiate a discussion on an issue of common concern and interest to women entreprenuers, writes it down on "The Marketplace of Ideas" during either registration or the coffee break. #galswithLEI facilitators will curate suggested topics and combine similar ideas to create several discussion groups. You will then self-organize into the discussion group of interest to you. And if, after being in a group you are no longer interested, you are free to wander over to another.
A whirlwind of activity is guided by a handful of simple Open Space principles:
Whoever comes are the right people.
Whatever happens is the only thing that could happen.
Whenever it starts is the right time.
When it is over it is over.

On Saturday, December 15th, 2012, leaders from chapters around Maryland met at St. John Baptist Church in Columbia, MD, to officially launch the Healthcare is a Human Right! Campaign for Maryland. Groups from six counties reported on their history in the fight to protect their rights through a publicly funded universal healthcare system and also presented on each of our guiding human rights principles: Universality, Equity, Accountability, Transparency, and Participation. Turnout was impressive and spirits were high. Advocates meet others from across Maryland. The gathering broke into smaller discussion groups to talk about the Harriet Tubman quote: “I freed a thousand slaves I could’ve freed a thousand more if they knew they were slaves…” At the end of the day, we gathered in a large circle, where we lit candles and sing as Vermont Workers Center "passed the torch" (and one of their "Healthcare is a Human Right" banners) to Marylanders. Building on the ‘Ecosystem Landscaping to advance the Accountability to implement the Women’s Empowerment Principles in ASEAN’, the WeEmpowerAsia programme, UN women jointly develops and will disseminate the Building Pathways to Gender Equality and Sustainability through the Women's Empowerment Principles: Thailand Policy Brief (hereafter referred as ‘Thailand Policy Brief’) with key partners, namely the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Office of SMEs Promotion (OSMEP).
Gender Responsive Procurement (GRP) is one of the initiatives recommended in the Thailand Policy Brief. GRP can identify, incorporate and support women business owners seeking to access government/corporate procurement contracts. In support of the initiative, UN Women and Kenan Foundation Asia will host the “IDEA to I do”, a business presentation competition for selected women entrepreneurs, to showcase the capacity of WOB and WLB developed under WeEmpowerAsia Programme as means to promote women’s participation in supply chain. Winners will receive the WeRise Awards and the prizes are comprised of one winner, one first runner-up and one second runner-up.
