Princess Sophie of Hanover. I interviewed and photographed her at her cottage in Bavaria in 1995. She was the sister of Prince Philip - and sister in law of The Queen of England. As a very young Princess Sophie of Greece in the early 1930s she had married Prince Christophe of Hesse, grandson of Kaiser Bill. He became a pilot and was shot down over Italy. After the war she married Prince George of Hanover.

So I was dying for a Princess Leia doll, and when my mom couldn't find one (or maybe it was that she didn't like the Barbie-esque one -- my mom didn't like Barbies...), she created her own from a random play doll from the store.

If you know what the original doll was, let me know! I have no idea... My mom set her hair herself, and sewed a costume up, so I never saw the original look of it.

Sure, she had blue eyes, but I was fooled that it was a true Princess Leia doll. And I loved it.

Also note my sweet Strawberry Shortcake tricycle and dolls. It was a good Christmas.

I believe it was 1984, or maybe 1983?

I needed a handy spot to hang my sweatshirt while giving her a curry.

Her head and ears seemed like a nice spot.

The Princess Mariana is 252 feet 3 inches long and is powered by two 570 horse power Deutz-MWMs. She was built in 2003. She is owned by Carlos Peralta Quintero, the former owner of Mexican cellular phone company Iusacell and the current owner of the Puebla Tigres baseball team, who named her after his wife Mariana Tort. She cost $92 million (in a cash transaction) but can be chartered for only $606,500 a week.
