Some wonderful colour in the pre-sunrise skies this morning. Taken from down near shot rock near Easington.
Taken on my ride at sunrise. I caught the first rays of light hitting the masts and the lighthouse at Hillarys Boat Harbor. The masts and lighthouse glittered like gold in these early morning rays. As the season wears on the sun starts to rise a little later each day. Soon my ride will coincide with the predawn light.
The views from the house are pretty amazing. The sky is extremely dynamic, constantly changing. Being in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains means we can see the weather everyone else is getting on Whidbey Island, the San Juans and off East towards Bellingham and the Cascades. Sunny Sequim!
Patagonia has some wonderful skies with the frequent appearance of alpenglow and lots of wind-blown cloud formations. But you have to get up early to capture the pre-dawn show and the alpenglow as it hits the mountains. Also good is to find the pre-dawn red sky reflected in a local lake or pond. A predawn photo of four Skytrains from the Skywalk between MBK and Siam Discovery.
I wish my timing was so good as to capture this in one shot – in reality this was multiple shots to capture the trains while not over exposing the Skywalk
Next up in my day photographing the fog was a marsh area. In the predawn the water appeared Sapphire blue.

Time to relax is later. Now is the time for doing away with all (well, most) of the fallen limbs and branches that Winter hides.
btw: it's dark because it is pre-dawn. That's the only time there is no wind blowing, and safer for fire... :)
Our Baton Rouge Flickr group used to meet at this spot across the river to socialize while waiting for sunrise. I haven't been here since before Covid, so got up early and headed out.
I was disappointed when I got there and found that the city had let the shoreline area get completely overgrown with sapling trees and weeds. So much that I couldn't even find an unobstructed view of the skyline, or even the Capitol building.
I still got a few shots, just not the ones I really wanted and had planned on.
btw...if you read this far, thank you!!

Some of the most interesting things occur when I might think nothing is happening at all. The predawn and twilight hours in the desert are often the best shooting moments, but at the time in the moment, it feels like I'm actually preparing for the pinnacle to come. What's ironic about that is that I'm sitting on top of the pinnacle and don't even know it.
This is a story of lack of sleep, coupled with an ambition to maximize a short period of time in a spectacularly beautiful place. This night we caught sunset, and shot Astro. We pulled into camp with 3 hours until the wake up call, and I planned to cowboy camp. On the way to the bathroom a scorpion and spider with 10 legs the size of my hand was discovered which ruled out cowboy camping. The spider I could deal with, but the scorpion was small, and I know those are the worst kind. Coupled with my experience on the Pacific Crest Trail I was almost positive this was a bark scorpion, which is the most venomous scorpion in north america. It's venom causes severe pain for up to 72 hours, temporary dysfunction in area stung, convulsion, loss of breath, and the sensation of electrical jolts... I think not.
My tent is ultralight and has no mosquito netting, and I had left my bivy at home, so the only option was to empty out the Jeep and sleep in the back. This was quite a chore, but it was useful because we needed to organize the chaos that was our transport anyway. We rolled out of camp, and hiked to our destination in darkness, hoping for some great sunrise lighting. The sunrise was mild at best, but arrived early enough to capture the faint blue glow of light reflecting off the rocks as the looming sunrise mixed with night.

I was heading down to the river at Bob Heirman wildlife park when I was greeted to this gorgeous morning glow. It would have been silly to not take some photos of this light show!
Decided to mark a personal beginning this morning, as Winter Solstice was yesterday here, and the shortest day of the year is over.
Came outside to see a plane leaving a glowing trail in the sunrise, reminding me that I thought last night, that my attitude could use a little altitude..
I've had some dark days since Mum died, and now it's time to make some changes for the better.

By the way, that's not smog layer, just the winter sunrise past the fog that's lifting down the valley..we don't see smog out here..

A particularly lucky predawn encounter as Bluericua waited for NY International to clear the gate. Kinda rare for an aircraft to pause long enough for me to take advantage of almost movie set lighting at a low ISO.
Predawn image of the magnificent Forth (Rail) Bridge. I am lucky enough to be only 10 miles or so away. This one I found sifting through old pics. I think the lens flare giving a halo is nice here...I think.
......silently, fingers of morning light, crept across the valley and up the ridge, driving before it the blue shadows of predawn.
Made it back! Hello my friends : )
Little story behind this one...
One morning (while on holiday in the Greek island of Crete) I decided to wake very early in hopes of capturing some interesting morning shots.
After shooting a few pre-dawn beach photos, I walked towards an interesting rock-pier, but had to cross some hotel grounds to access it.
When walking past this pool, I glanced back and saw this mirrored reflection of the hotel in the water!
I desperately wanted to capture the moment (but didn't want to spend more than a minute here as I was trying to hurry and reach the rock-pier before sunrise) so I simply laid my camera down upon the edge of the pool and took 2 shots... and this was one of them : )
I was so surprised that this quick shot turned out at all, as it was taken during pre-dawn light and I didn't have time to make fine adjustments before moving on.
The blues you see in the sky (directly over the hotel) quickly changed (by the minute!) after this shot. The glow from the coming sunrise quickly affected it as I walked on towards the pier.
The blueness of the pool water also caught my attention... I think the reflection is very special near the pool ladder & lamp lights : )
This area was beautiful... so of course the title ( Vacation Blues ) has two meanings ; )
This is SOOC (straight out of camera), no cropping or color adjustments either.
That doesn't make it any more special, I simply tried to leave it the way I remembered it that early morning... very soft predawn blues with subtle hints in the sky of the coming glow : )
I thought it turned out pretty well, considering I was in such a hurry to carry on and make it to the next location.
(note: Taken with my Sony HX90V compact)
Thanks guys for taking a moment to have a look
...thought it was time to add more 'blues' to my photostream!
Hope you find something interesting or enjoyable here : )
Truly appreciate your support... wishing you a wonderful day ahead my friends!!!
p.s. Glad to be back!
I will slowly try to catch up with everyone during the coming days...
