Medical Friendly Shelter Full Scale Exercise 2018
The City held a full-scale exercise of the Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) designed to establish a learning environment for participants to exercise their MFS operational plans.
The exercise served as a practical walk through of planning, operational coordination, operational communication, logistics and supply chain management, public health, healthcare, and emergency medical services
The MFS is only activated for a Category 2 or greater hurricane or as directed by the City Manager. The MFS is for people who, during periods of evacuation or emergency, require sheltering assistance due to physical, mental or cognitive impairment, or a sensory disability that exceeds the basic level of care provided at a general population shelter, but does not require the level of care provided at a skilled medical facility. This includes help with administering medication, personal hygiene assistance with activities of daily living (washing, dressing and eating).

Nous sommes arrivés en France! We are staying in this lovely country for two months this spring. Our primary residence is Lyon, the third largest city in France, located to the southwest. It is a historical, cultural, and very picturesque city founded as the Roman city of Lugdunum, spread out over two hills and two rivers -- the Saône and Rhône.
With side trips to locations as diverse as Paris, Perpignan, Aix-en-Provence, and more, Steve and I aim to get our fill of a country neither of us has seen in a decade, and enjoy the cuisine, culture, language practice, scenery, and generally, la vie quotidienne.

Here I am practicing with my gear and learning something about what my lenses can do:
1. The nifty fifty took the top left image. I had to stand 104 feet away to get the whole tree in the picture.
2. The top right is the kit lens, from about the same distance. I tried to set the lens to 50mm (no indicator mark on the barrel) and got pretty close. Colors seem a little richer, maybe the higher f-stop caused this.
3. With the kit lens set to 18mm at bottom left, I can approach to 30 feet and still get the entire tree in the shot. Wide angle is great for landscape shots or shots like this.
4. Finally at bottom right, I've backed up a little and kept the kit at 18mm so I could include the lamppost at left. With wide angle I can stand closer to the two objects and have a greater sense of depth in the image between them.

Nothing like a little last minute routine change before the show begins.
